My wife and I bought 35 acres of raw land here in North Florida in December of 2017. It took us 3 1/2 years to get about an acre cleared where our home is now as well as build a driveway that is roughly 1/4 of a mile long. It was/is a lot of "work", but it's something that I enjoy doing. I call it my "therapy".

I had exactly the same problem with a Kubota SVL 95-2S and a Kubota root grapple. If you get "lucky" a root/branch/stick will poke through between the tines just right and that hose doesn't stand a chance of surviving. That may be a design flaw or it might just be unavoidable. I cleared about 6 acres of dead avocado trees and stumps, but it took maybe a year. There is really no such thing as burning debris here in southern California. The next thing you know the whole county would be in flames. Grinders are the only way to go but they have their own grisly dangers. All I had was the skid steer but I was glad to have it. It is a lot harder to remove stumps without the excavator. I tried an excavator one time and while it is not super easy to learn how to use a skid steer effectively an excavator is whole other problem at a higher level of difficulty. What looks easy on screen actually requires a lot of skill and coordination because of how the geometry of the 3 parts of the digging arm interact. Each part is controlled separately and it is far from simple and I have to admire the skill shown here.

I watch another homestead channel where they had a logging company come in and clear about 15 acres a couple years ago. They did give him credit for the logs and truckloads of pulp they took out, but he paid them the difference. I think the material they took out covered a bit less than half the cost. It was amazing watching that huge equipment fell, skid, cut logs, shred trees into a enclosed semi trailer. It was quite an operation.

I want to complement you on the quality of your video productions.
That opening overhead shot of the new building panning over to the new clearing area was superb.
For my "time," your video shots and production is some of the best out on RUclips.
That leads me to my second thought concerning comments from people on forums ... and that's about the value of experience.
It seems that many people watch videos and conclude they have a better way of doing things.
Perhaps, from their desire to be helpful, they feel the need to offer advice even though they have strayed outside their lane of experience.
That inexperienced advice often leads to the repetition of mistakes made by others in the past ... and lessons learned the hard way.
We see a lot of that going on with public policy these days ... a failure to learn from what people have tried and failed at in the past.
I don't know if it's a kind of arrogance ... an unwillingness to accept the value of knowledge and lessons learned from those who have gone before, but I see an awful lot of damage done to society by implementation of previously tried and failed policies.
So if you want to know how to do something (clear 150 acres) and don't want to waste a lot of time, energy and money; seek out the advice of people who have experience doing it ... and avoid those with little real experience.

Hi Mike, I enjoyed this vid. I noted before that I can watch machinery clearing and earthmoving because there is something quite satisfying and relaxing about it. It reminds me of when young having my land partly cleared, only a small acreage compared to yours. The dozer spent a few days and I did the rest with an old ferry tractor. I had no loader but the grader blade on the PTO worried the logs and stumps during the burn, till there was just a pile of ash. Regarding your tooth, you need to be aware of a condition called osteomyelitis. That is a bone infection which takes a good deal to heal and usually with complications. Please don’t let infections go untreated. That’s from a nurse who is now retired. I enjoy your family, vids, ethics so take care.

Hi Morgan's ! I own a small 3 acre plot n the woods of Ohio with a small cabin. Several years ago I wanted to clear one acre for "pasture" compared to you, mine was easy. A couple trees, sticks, pinecones, brush and a lot of jagger bushes. It took a couple weeks because it was me, my spouse and a wheel barrow and ropes. We got it done and now it is a good grazing area for deer. BUT I was thinking about how much work you have had to put into clearing your dozens of trees. Imagine what our forefathers endured with a horse or mule, a.shovel, saw an ax and ropes....it is a miracle they were able to do that isn't it? I'm a 69 yr old woman and I just love watching your thought process when you work. It's a massive puzzle of which you put together the pieces. Love your channel.

We had 1 1/2 acres to clear here in Texas. Some of the trees were 12 -14 inches in diameter as well as smaller stuff. A lot of folks get a dozer to do it. We got a large forestry mulcher. When you are done no debris to haul or burn. Just wood chips. All the much goes back into the soil in a few years. Some folks will say it is more expensive but that is debatable considering all the extra work that Mike went through with the excavator.

Mike and to all your followers, If you have an infected or abscess tooth, use and apply Frankincense Oil to the tooth and gum area. Now if you have a broken tooth easier to apply with Q-tip into the break or chip to get to the root. Use for 7-10 days apply as often as needed. Frankincense in a natural anesthetic and will kill the root of the tooth. I have done this and it works.

We had a 75 acre lot that we sold to them, good size trees like yours. Been told by the loggers, what you get for the logs, you well invest about the same a D9 Cat cleaning up the stumps into a windrow. You then have the cost of disking the land and cleaning the roots.

Land looks great! BTW...Tractor forum. You take 40 hours per acre. 150 acres is 6,000 hours. Three, non stop 50 week, years. No stopping for weather, for break downs, for holidays, for the mountain of stumps you've collected. At the end of three years, your equipment is shot and the first 50 acres you cleared needs a good going over...Cause it's starting to grow back. If anyone is going to clear 150 acres (forested acres) by themselves. They better have a D8 or D9 dozer and a heck of a track hoe. Throw a log truck in there and a dump truck too. That's commercial work. Timber and co-gen grinding (if you have a co generation plant near by) can help defray the cost....but I still can't imagine what it would cost to have some one else do that kinda clearing.
