The Foviated Rendering is what Excites me the most about it, you can track where the Eyes are looking and just render that part with incredible detail and leave others with lower detail, so you get better looking and better performing games. Plus The Eye tracking can be used to "look into the distance" aka they can make it so that you have "Focus far away" to look at something just cause they can tell where youre focused based on how far apart your eyes are from each other.
The key driver in adopting VR for me was social VR on the computer. I've survived three decades and moved to a different continent three times, it's REALLY hard for me to pick up any new friends in real life at this stage, and on top of all that I am an outsider in this country so people don't want to talk to me too much. But in VR it's completely different, I can just get off work, put my headset on, open VRChat, and hang out with my buddies from anywhere in the world like we're in the same room, it's natural, it feels actually meaningful, and it's absolutely freaking amazing.
I know you balance a lot of different channels and you're constantly doing doing work but I feel like having this be like a special once in awhile thing would be fun just occasional VR gameplay almost how the lucky nugget dip works
Hey dank, the reason why it looked blurry on the sides is due to foveated rendering It basically makes peripheral vision blurry and where you’re looking at crisp. It’s used to really boost performance
Granted, if he was wearing it off-angle that will make it blurry regardless. I have the same issue with my Rift S. The design of the band is shoddy for long-haired peeps like me, it has a tendency to slowly slip down. Push it up and you can see it get instantly clearer.
it is not. it is due to the type of lenses. the foveated rendering on the psvr2 uses eye tracking and you can't notice at all while playing but is very obvious to others watching your gameplay on a TV
Huge library, better comfort (according to some), bigger "Sweet Spot", no foviated rendering. Seems to me like PSVR is the far superior helmet, even at 1080 30 frames we still got OLED at least. Playing Biohazard now.
What you’ve noticed here with the ‘blurry’ edges while playing through these games is called Foveated Rendering - The PSVR2 will track your irises and render what you’re looking at in clearer detail, while rendering the game in your peripheral vision at a lower resolution. It’s seriously neat tech!
As soon as we get targeted foveated rendering on PC (Presently you can do regular fixed foveated rendering with VR Performance Toolkit) and adaptive triggers, good gravy it'll be a good time for PCVR. Especially if we can get Pimax wide resolutions, that'd be the holy fucking grail!
The blurriness on the edges is because of eye tracking. It tracks your center of vision, and will render only the section you are looking at in full resolution and will downscale everything else around it.
Just bought some KZ-EDS as you recommended in the air pods max video and i absolutely amazed! Really thank you for recommending them to me they really are smashing!!!! Frohe Ostern! Greatings from Germany
I'm pretty sure it looks blurry around the edges because of the eye tracking, it renders higher quality where you're actually looking and lower quality everywhere else to save resources, pretty cool tbh
i love how this kind of content is being integrated into dank pods (which is a gadget review channel or just basically effin around). pls dont create a separate channel for this. i love this being on dank pods
This video alone explains why I've been hooked on Wade's content ever since the first upload, smiling like an idiot just hearing his slip into mild insanity on a weekly basis
fun fact, that "blurryness" your describing with the focus is actually a feature (somewhat). It's got eye tracking and precisely tracks your eyes, it means that it enhances the performance by blurring the areas of the screen your retinas aren't actually looking at. It actually does wonders for streamlining cpu usage, however it can be slightly off-putting with the peripheral vision.
" it was so clunky and just anchored you into places, now this got the cameras in built...." Proceeds to play the one game that doesnt require to leave the same spot you started
a good way to find smudges on the lenses is hold it with your thumb covering the IR sensor inside the headset so it thinks its still on your head and keeps the screen on - ANYTHING on the surface, right down to dust particles will glimmer, so its really easy to know where to go at with the microfiber cloth or the bottom of your tee shirt, or whatever - as opposed to putting it on, closing one eye to tell which one the smudge is on, then going by a vague idea of where it is based on the angle ur eyes where at when u see the smudge...also to get the perfect moist-ness of a cloth to clean the glass, dont breathe on the glass then wipe, that's too moist and leaves streaks - breathe on the cloth - theres always juuuuuust enough or less than what u need to get the smudge off without having to scratch at it with a fingernail
Considering that the theme of this channel is "looking at your hands while you do stupid shit because it's funny", VR is a remarkably good fit. XD Great video, I'd love more of it.
Little enlightenment from an optician who is aiming to work in VR RnD: Close Objects are the bane of fully immersive VR as there is something called the convergence-accommodation conflict. there is what is called the "sweet spot" for the optics on a lot of headsets. the "sweet spot" will align them such that they barely distort even near the edges. it won't be 100% and some headsets have bigger "sweet spots" that are easier to align but it helps immersion even more.
VR enthusiast here: What you're holding is the greatest consumer VR headset there is, at least hardware-wise. Unless you're buying headsets that are worth thousands of dollars, pretty much every modern headset will have the same issues (Valve Index, HTC Vive Pro, Oculus/Meta Quest 2, HP Reverb G2, etc.). The blurriness and distortion by the edges are a byproduct of the lenses used. They're called "Fresnel" lenses, and they're used because they're the cheapest good-looking option, with their down-sides being glare, distortion, and a bit of farsightedness. Be patient for more devs to port their games to the platform and enjoy your headset!
(12:44) The video somehow made me imagine what a DankPods VR experience would be like, complete with the overhead camera setup, Frank, Cash Converters specials, cymbal throwing, Nugget lucky dip, 'an car', 'HAITCH PEA', PKCELL batteries, and more! (12:29) it's understandable considering it was the pack-in for the VR system. To be fair, I too have no interest in Horizon games.
Finding out that Dankpods is a Blackpanthaa fan is amazing. Blackpanthaa was a huge part of my childhood and it's amazing to see that my favorite creator is a fan of my favorite childhood creator :)
A lot of this tech already exists as separate devices, so you can get a PC set up with the eye tracking and full body tracking stuff, but it’s a lot more expensive and requires multiple devices, this isn’t the most top of the line VR available but it’s impressive that they could fit as much as they did into it
The center is crisp and the peripheral vision is blurred on purpose, as it tracks your eyes and keeps what you see in focus they can get a bit more of performance out of it by bluring the edges out it's all on purpose.
You can make a super sized hotdog by putting the frozen one on the enlarging thing then cook it then put it on the enlarging thing again the put it in a bun and put it on the enlarging thing again
I love to enjoy this video... however, I have a terrible case of game vertigo/simulator sickness, and couldn't watch a minute without feeling queasy 😞This is the first DankPods video i did not finish watching.

Little enlightenment from an optician who is aiming to work in VR RnD:
Close Objects are the bane of fully immersive VR as there is something called the convergence-accommodation conflict.
Your eyes converge to focus on close objects and your eyes lens starts accommodating-
as VR headsets have a set focal distance, so to speak, that accommodation which occurs autonomically forces the picture out of focus.
That´s the reason that close objects seem blurry when you try to focus on them. Keep your hands at an arms length or look at close objects with just one eye.
TL;DR When looking at close objects in VR close one eye or keep it at an arms length to appreciate the texture
