I'm looking at plants and shrubs in a whole new way now since you've been showing their potential and the different ways to use them. They add so much more interest to our gardens and give us so many more choices when we turn them into topiaries. And it's so quick and easy looking.
Love that gold mop! I am new to, but loving, both evergreens and topiary, so this project is perfect. Also love the combo with heucherella and carex. Thanks, Jim! Love your videos.
How nice to run across your video. Just this morning I trimmed my humongous Gold Mop. I did not know how it was going to end when I started. How about more like a Topiary! 😆lol I cut off a lot more then 1/3 so I'm hoping it thrives. It looks a lot more appealing. Thx for sharing!
So surprised your sweet Holly stayed put for your project! She is usually a cruiser, as she surveys “her” yard. Oh, and thanks for the topiary tutorial!
i know im randomly asking but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Austin Taylor i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I love what you did to it. I will try that on my Norfolk tree. Might not get the same results but i really dont want it to grow too tall or have all the dead branches on the bottom. Wish me luck! Lol
I love weeping willows but my parents experienced how bad the roots are to a septic field growing up-so ill never plant one. Wirh that being said, this has a mini willow look to it in topiary form! I absolutely love it! Thanks Mr. Jim!
I love that threadleaf Chamaecyparis can be pruned to resemble dissected Japanese Maples. You then get the form and texture of a Japanese Maple, but the green is persistent the entire season. Thanks Jim for another awesome video.
I have a large Golden mop that's taken over the sidewalk on the the side of the house. Can that be cut back small again? Or will it not grow anymore? Thanks for any help..
Interesting project, Jim! I have been shying away from gold mop because neighbors have special mature specimens that are just HUGE and I didn’t want anything like that blocking my house or windows etc. The fact that it can be given a haircut is illuminating - great to see additional options for containers (apart from basic arborvitae).
Looks great, Jim. I love the carex and have two with a pieris and heuchera. They’re doing great in a pot in a shady corner. But I have some heucheras in the ground that are looking sad. They were fine all summer but they seem to be losing they’re leaves now and I’m in 7b. I don’t remember them looking this bad last year. Not sure why that is. Any ideas?
Can’t say enough how much I love seeing these transformations of clearance plants and how you use them in containers plantings! Would it be possible to keep alive in zone 5 winter without additional protection?
Jim, save those prunings, Gold Mop stays pretty a LONG time. One of my favorites for holiday live arrangements. In wet foam, they'll last a month. Add some pine, a little Cryptomeria, some Holly with berries, a Nandina top for the center, Juniper around the sides & boom, you have an arrangement better than you could buy!
Well, dang, now I need a Gold Mop Cypress to put in my Rose garden backdrop by an old cedar tree. Do they do well on Zone 8 in these Mississippi hot & steamy summers!?
Never would have thought to do a globe cypress! I love these videos, as I watch, I think what about that limb right there? And then you usually trim it. But I never would have thought to do this ! You did such a wonderful job! A zone 5 watcher❄️❄️
After almost a year of giving my husband pandemic haircuts, I feel fairly confident that I may be able to tackle topiary pruning!
I wouldn’t have guessed how well a golden cypress takes to a standard form. Thanks for the how to. Combination is really nice in that container.
Hi Jim. I just enjoy watching how others limbed up evergreens easily. This gives me the confidence to try out in my own landscape. TY. ❤

Me too!
Same here! Linda
I’ll watch little Miss Holly Bell all day long in your videos. She is pure love! Love all the clear and concise videos Jim!
Love this, great combo.
The gold mop actually looks really good like that. I love how holly is so relaxed just laying there
Thanks for posting! Absolutely love your pup!!
Oh, I love Holly!
Love that gold mop! I am new to, but loving, both evergreens and topiary, so this project is perfect. Also love the combo with heucherella and carex. Thanks, Jim! Love your videos.
I didn’t know you could topiary a Gold Mop. Looks great! Thanks!
Looks grea, Jim. I'm inspired!
My gold mops got big and shapeless. We trimmed up the bottom of them all, they all look great, we have a staggered row of them.
How nice to run across your video.

Looks great after trimming.
Wow. Love this. I have never seen a topiary with Gold Mop Cypress, Now I have to try one.
Your dog is so proud of you 😁
Lovely way to add evergreens to a garden with limited space! This is what I should do. Very nice plant combo too. Enjoy your weekend!
Gosh that was fast. I love that you are using clearance plants. Great video. Tfs. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
Love the leaf cover in the beds. 🍂
Thanks for the inspiration.
I love the look of this and how simple this was to do!
Beautiful! What a great idea! Love the channel and your pup's.
Love this combo! Also I didn’t even know cypress could be trimmed into a topiary😍

Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
@Nathanael Titus Happy to help :D
So inspiring to watch the transformation!

So fun! I can’t wait to do this! Thanks Jim!
Great idea! Thanks.
Love these videos
I love the topiary, I’ve thought about doing that with a mop head before but was afraid to try it, I just might give it a try next spring! Thanks Jim
Very fun! I have done something similar with a 4' Forever Goldy Arborvitae that was partially dead at the base I turned into a topiary.
Great video Jim! Love seeing Holly too. Nice haircut on the gold mop and on you! Have a great Thanksgiving!

I love using chartreuse in my gardens and decor.
Looks beautiful , nice job

Great idea will do to mine it has lots brown foliage at base
Love this idea, thanks for share your methods for it.
Hi Holly glad you are helping out.
Blessings Mr Putnam
So glad I found your channel. Hello from Melbourne Australia
What a beautiful dog🐕 ...and l love your topiary 🇨🇦🏴
I’ve missed you Miss Holly.
Jim! You come up with some of the greatest ideas. I’m gonna check out the clearance sections more often for gems like this.👍🏾😁👌🏾
Looks cute, but I like the moppy
Looks very nice
With all that clipping does it stress the plant?
really lovely!
Good job
Now that's an idea!!!!

Very nice! I like the combo of plants. Off topic, do you still have Griffin?
I do. He is not ready to settle while I film. He was on Instagram at the beach a couple of days a go.

Yes, I used to cut some and sell it to the wreath makers at the State Farmer's Market in Raleigh
@@JimPutnam I'm not "crafty" but find these easy to do, cheap to make & always appreciated. Like designing a landscape in miniature!
Well, dang, now I need a Gold Mop Cypress to put in my Rose garden backdrop by an old cedar tree. Do they do well on Zone 8 in these Mississippi hot & steamy summers!?
Jim, you make everything look so easy! I love all of your creative ideas. Linda
Seeing Holly always makes for good feels. How’s Griffin adjusting?
Like both
Jim, is there any difference between gold mop and lemon thread false cypress?
How is the puppy?
Hey Holly, pretty girl!
That turned out nice. Holly did what she does best....looked bored just like my dog! 😂
That is definitely her style 🐕
Will the cypress topiary stay green all winter in zone 6 in the topiary form?
Oh yeah! Looks great all winter
Hope you make a wreath with the clippings!
You’re giving me so many great ideas 😍
Love this. Do you still have your other pup?
It turned out really nice. I'm not too sure that Holly liked it. She seemed to roll her eyes when you first started talking about it.🤣😂
She can looked bored with the best of them🐕
That’s a cute cypress. I don’t usually care for cypress unless the Italian cypress. I don’t like the stiff pointy shape of them.
👋😄
Next up; barbering 101 ;)

What do you know? I have a little gold mop cyprus sitting in a nursery can at my house that I can't decide what to do with...
Nice, I didn't really know what I would do with this one.
