call of duty's oldest unsolved mystery... (ironclad easter egg)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 окт 2024
- Call of Duty 3 released in 2006, but recently RUclipsr @oddheader briefly mentioned a tweet from a former Treyarch developer alluding to a secret easter egg that could be hidden on the map Ironclad. We even talked with Jason McCord who designed the map. Nobody has discovered this yet. Can we become the first to uncover this mystery?

i can’t believe i watched an hour to not know the easter egg
i shouldve clicked on the comment section lol. feel the same way but cool vid
Thanks for saving me an hour
still gonna watch it ;)
Wish I'd saved the hour. What a waste of time.
4 minutes in and saw your comment. Cheers mate!
I'm happy I could be apart of this video lol You've done an amazing job putting this all together. CoD3 is still very active and there is full games every night if anyone is interested in playing :)
My goat conory❤
Was you actually flying around the map then or nah? That other guy made some pretty big claims 👀
On what system?
Pc @@Geeler
@@Misttrd nah i dont cheat, he was just mad he gets destroyed by me every game for the last 17 years lol
I'm like 90% sure the easter egg was never fully implemented, or it was, got found in playtesting and was removed.
Why 90% this seems more like it does exist 50/50 at best I reckon
Wouldn’t they be able to see that in the code then?
@bigdaddystumps7930 yes they would if it was suppose to be text on the screen showing a message which no one can find than it was either removed or a myth or ol dude didn't put it in
@@johnmj89schannel47 there was an easter egg in Saints Row that took about 15 years to solve. The assets were obfuscated and baked directly into the engine itself instead of being in the resources so that people couldn't easily find it through reverse engineering.
I doubt that Mike put that much effort into this though. No reason to obfuscate its existence. Although it could be that hitting a certain trigger spawns extra props which are arranged in a way that spells Juliana or something.
@vrclckd-zz3pv that's interesting I didn't know about the saints row easter egg
54:48 "we tried shooting the different letters on the Juliana Boat to see if we could spell something out maybe that has a secret message"
Followed by the clip of him shooting the letters A N A and about to scope in on L. That shouldn't have made me laugh so hard, but it did.
good eye lmao
the guys joining just to have a duel of fates during all of this is amazing
i was laughing so hard at that part for how random it is
They settled their differences to be goofy
Maybe the Easter egg is the friends we made along the way
Corny shit 😂
Best theory so far. I’m behind this.
Best comment this made my day honestly lol
A lot of us still play COD 3 on Xbox 360 almost everyday and CONORY is a RUclipsr who does cod 3 content . Man I grew up in this game like a mffff and we get full servers on the weekends with the map packs . DONT LET OLD GAMES DIE.
Cod 3 was the worst old classic cod. Let it die. None of you bozos play the real classics like big red one or cod 2
@@BanditoGames3what a dumb reaction
COD 3 was my first COD. Had it on PS2, never played any of the online stuff.
@@daanschreijer551 it's not even a dumb reaction. It is by far the worst cod. I've beat it multiple times. The physics were god awful. And all they did was reput the characters from United offensive into a console port campaign, cod 2 was slightly better. Was cod 3 maybe fun? Yeah. Was it a good game though. No not at all.
Also it's ranked by many to be like the worst call of duty to release too. Although I'd still play it over vanguard anyday

Came here to say that lol I thought it was a bear or something I was freaking out when I saw it
One thing I do wish you asked Jason was if World at War was supposed to have the British in it because the DS and PS2 versions have British campaigns and black ops 1 has fully modeled and voice acted British soldiers with unique weapons for a total of 45 seconds in the ww2 nova 6 mission.
Yes, the British campaign was cut from world at war
@@Supersonicspyro Truth
@@monsterclip you've worked on apex what's your favorite legend? If you have one
Indeed they were cut, like another has already said. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to take place in Holland, and have some winter levels. It’s a huge shame we never got those :
@mrbreider man WaW is considered one of the best Call of Duty campaigns. I'm sure if it had winter british levels it would've pushed the narrative a bit. My biggest complaint is it was just a hit short. But it captures the brutality of war more than just about any game.
The letters vanishing on the buildings is just because the decal was set too close to the wall itself so as you get closer the wall gets culled into the forefront. The other one doesn't do it because the decal is further away from the wall. That's what my limited knowledge makes me believe anyways
probably true, I've faced that problem several times when working with Unity myself
Yea it’s pretty much a decal placed on the same grid as the wall, when you get closer/further the rending gets confused since it’s rending both at the same time on the same grid point
absolutely. I use Radiant and this is a thing even in Black Ops 3. decals have to be at least a half unit above the brush or you get this.
Yeah, textures popping through walls like that was a common bug in 3. I remember it from a couple base game maps and in a few campaign missions. Usually small things, easy to miss
thats exactly what happened, sometimes when im working on rosds i put the line decals way too close to the road meshes and theres a lot of z fighting as a result
That bit about the search engines and specificaly about the different CODs with the letter 3 in the name is so true and unfortunate
At this point I think it’s case of misremembering.
Jason put Juliana on the side of boat to make sure he could put in a small Easter egg if Mike didn’t.
Mike didn’t put in the Easter egg, but surely had conversations about the Easter egg on the side of the boat.
Then going back and recalling 20 years ago that you’re 90% sure you made an Easter egg, but cannot even remember a single step. He’s more likely misremembering conversations from 20 years ago about the Juliana boat Easter egg
I could see how he could very well convince himself it exists considering all of these circumstances and the fact it was 20 years ago.
But at this point it’s more likely to be misremembering,
The levers and valves are intractable in the campaign for quick time events, so maybe that's why the code specifically talks about them?
The light bulbs though, I have no idea.
Bumb, keep us updated bro
I played Call of duty 3 at its peak and barely anyone had the DLC maps. There was maybe a good month when these were played then completely disappeared from the browser.
Love Call of duty 3 insanely underrated.
I find it interesting that it was more or less the norm for multiplayer content back in the day. Most of the time new DLC's would be popular for a month or two and then the likelihood of playing those maps in rotation would drop. Battlefield 3 Premium was a good example of the distinctive separation between the player base, but for me it was WAW. If you played WAW anytime after 2009, I'm sure you'll understand how these dlc maps basically became eerie walks down memory lane on your own. Thing is, I somewhat still wish these map packs were a thing. The philosophy of design and quality was far different from what we see in the Live Service market we now find ourselves in
I played back in the day too. Nothing ever beat the full ranked war lobbies.
First cod game I've ever played. I remember not liking it but also have a weird nostalgia for it.
Bo3 was the only one I brought the season pass for and I’ve never played most of the maps though it kept spamming micro at me, probably for the best because the ones I played were cheeks
I don't know how to put this into words, but I can't believe this video exists! I feel like it was made for me: I love video game mysteries, Easter eggs, chats with developers, and old-OLD call of duty. I can't believe you made an hour long video on a call of duty (map pack) map! I loved every second. Best of luck with your search
That toilet EE is cursed now adays thanks to skibidi toilet
It seems like “Freight” from COD Ghosts got inspiration from “Ironclad”. Love to see that
I'm so glad other people noticed this, i got to around 7:00 and instantly the map clicked in my head as Freight from Ghosts.
@@Mentohs Literally my same thought at that exact timestamp
The easter egg is the raccoon on the tree at 44:30
That stick drift😭😂
I wouldn't be surprised if it is something as small as a brick or a book being shot dependent on game mode. On top of that, if doors and accessible areas change between modes, then it may be an additional brick or book etc spawning in that no one would notice, unless you had a superhuman memory of each asset in each area of the map. I have a vague memory of a Call Of Duty title involving shooting bricks, probably zombies, but whether or not it has any relevance, I'm not holding my breath.
In the end, I'd imagine it will add words to the 'Juliana' on the ship for the message itself. Fortunately I have my original 360's so I'm certainly going to see what I can find
you're probably thinking of the bo3 revelations easter egg step where you need to shoot rocks around the map
CoD 3 is one of my guilty pleasure multiplayers. With all the out of map glitches I used to do in that game it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a hidden Easter egg somewhere.
How is that supposed to be a guilty pleasure?
The fact that you managed to get so many people in multiple lobbies cause of the intrigue of a launch glitch is amazing HAHAHA
Man, glitching with randoms in old games was so much fun. Backflip jumping on gears of war, super jumping on halo 2, sword flying on halo 2.. some of my favorite times
The rivalry is the funniest shit ever. That's such an old school cod thing
I still play this game a good amound we get full 24 people lobbies and most have dlc, about half way through now hoping you find it. Conory isnt a cheater lol
“Sure he isn’t” we know you are Conory
Same he's just seriously good player. I love that there is a community still cod 3 is my favorite
@@SG-hd1qg do you still play??
@@SUMeg yeah
A note on ruling out areas because there not being walls when you glitch in them; a lot of time devs keep interiors like that to save space until a certain action is performed.
You forgot to mention the Xbox 360 online store is shutting down July 29, 2024 so you must buy all games and DLC before then otherwise the map is lost forever since it was exclusive to Xbox 360.
Since xbox is backwards compatible couldnt I still buy dlc from a 360 on my series x, like say I play cod WaW I’d still be able to buy a map pack
@@andromedav414 Yeah, but only for games that are backwards compatible. Screws those of us who just have a 360 too :(
Maybe you have to shoot something with a specific weapon? Like how you can only get launched into the air while holding the Thomson
Honestly a great idea to look into.
Holy shit not 1 but TWO copies of uno! I need a modded 360 now
This map looks extremely like a cod ghosts map “freight”, the center with the trains is almost identical
Did you try more sequencing? Think the of ray gun in World at War's campaign, there's a specific order. Maybe you touch/shoot the valves in an order and then Juliana's surname appears on the boat? Just a thought, could apply to the lightbulbs too.
Oh man, i miss this game. I was in the PS2 Clan "xGMx" aka "Glitch Masters". Good old days...
Great to see all those glitches again. The elevatorone is a classic! It worked amazingly in COD4 and Modern Warfare 2 too!
•The tweet from Jesse Snyder says, "There are HIDDEN SECRET CODES" suggesting an input order for activation
•The game code says "Valves & Light Bulbs/Fixtures"
•You found 12 valves and 12 Bulbs.
•Maybe there's a sequence, morse code, or order to shoot/intercact with each?
•The skull picture seems to be locked at a distance from you onto a texture. It is in front of the building while far away, move closer and it pops to the wall inside, move closer and it pops to behind the building I guarantee it. 💯
I was thinking like, inputting the date of their anniversary into these elements somehow? Like maybe something like "10/12" would be shooting the 10th lightbulb and somehow the 12th valve whatever the 12th valve would be lmao
I feel like he started coding it and then either didnt have enough time to finish it or forgot to actually implement the trigger
If you can get a mod menu use noclip and check more out of bounds look for boxes out of the map and lot of these older cods used out of map boxes to hide things underneath or just out of view of the map. If you find anything it might help indicate what type of Easter egg you're looking for
What’s crazy to me is that these map/game developers go years without telling players how to solve an easter egg then sometime down that road, a player will revisit an old game to try and solve it or a developer will give out hints that it’s still out there for someone to solve. I grew up hunting down easter eggs with my buddy on cod back in 2008 when WAW came out. I’m 24 now and still go back and do them just to feel nostalgic lol
I wanna see hour long deep dives into every Call of Duty map ever. I would watch every one
this is the best shit to have on 1.5x speed in the background lmao, I also endorse your idea
Not sure if you’ve already tried this or ruled it out, but maybe try interacting with stuff while holding a flag via playing capture the flag.
Example: interact with the red pipe valves while holding a flag
1:01:05 Using the 360 upside down hurt my soul 😂 Great vid guys!
Its not upside down its vertical. (edit: nevermind he actually has it both upside down and vertical)
the only thing i could think of would be an important date like an anniversary or first date and you use that to shoot lightbulbs or activate switches
I wish they had asked the guy what he told Mike or what Mike knew about his relationship at the time. It doesn't sound like he told him all that information or that Mike knew any of it off the top of his head because he sort of accepted the task so nonchalantly.
@@V8_Diva i don't think he would do that. Kind of personal, and if it was important, he would tell that to the coder, meaning he probably remembers.
Seems like there was next to no dialogue between the two about the egg beforehand so what are the odds Mike knew an important date like their anniversary or her birthday offhand? There could've been a quick exchange between the two about it that both could've forgotten, I suppose.
The guy guy who joined your lobby and was then dropping the flag multiple times, after you messaged Mike is... suspicious. Almost like he was, literally, dropping the hint in front of you.
Writing off video games, dlc content, and modded consoles is wild
The zombies player in me is screaming internally about how the levers and light bulbs correspond. Sounds like a very coder flavored ee step if you ask me.
The name of the boat on ironclad is Juliana and in the end credits it says to my love Juiliana
Shout out to Vlad, keep on keeping on dude!
❤
I know a lot of the older cods even WaW where I started would take 2 nades instead of 1 to open secret entrances worth trying
I was curious if they used explosives on anything because I don’t think they ever showed that. like throw a grenade in a room and then a text pops up on a wall or something
This video is wonderful, filled with the smallest of moments which makes these kinds of journeys special. I especially liked when those guys joined the lobby and it felt like mid 2000s Xbox live all over again.
We've lost so much history about the early CoD games with the loss of the old forums...
6 lights, 6 valves, 6 different letters in juliana... Man id do anything to play this game with my old crew back in 2009. RIP Bambam, a 90+ year old grandmother, and the wehrmacht, a 70+ year old grandfather. Some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had with those 2 especially and many others playing the hell out of this game!!!
Cod ghost looks like the used a part of ironclad called freight
The elevator glitch can be done on almost any flat wall in any map. The best way to set it up is angle the prone player about 35-45 degrees to the wall and pushed into the wall as much as possible. Then walk the second player in between the prone player and the wall. Push both players against each other while pushing into the wall. You'll know you have it right when the prone player starts to float.
You can reach the top of the dam on Elder Dam and tons of other roofs in other maps. Have fun!
War was the core mode back then, you gotta play War guys. He spells it out in the interview, capture the points in a specific order
Watching him kind of stumble for words when he first saw them running around in his map after all those years was awesome
22:21 “but I’m very intrigued at what is happening in my Call of Duty 3 lobby in 2024” 😂😂😂😂
This is like watching those discovery channel shows where the old guys SWEAR that there’s gold in those darn hills, and they end up empty handed episode after episode.
An hour long video on an unknown COD easter egg? Only thing that could beat this is a two hour long video. Im all here for it and subbing.
im telling my kids this was one piece
This is my favorote video on your channel, its beautiful watching people come back to cod 3 and being so intriguied 20 years later
I made it to the end of the video! I think its only in developer mode, like vlad said. It would be in campaign maybe
@@TEZAFIM If it's a button combo in a certain location, there are too many possible variations for an ordinary player to find it
Odd question but I havent seen others bring this up, one of the easiest ways to do an easter egg on the 360 would've been a clock check, maybe it's tied to her birthday?
Just want to say that I subscribed to you guys during the Halo glyphs Easter egg saga and I'm so excited to see a similar type of video being featured on this channel again! I think you guys really shine with this type of content and I would absolutely love to see more of it. Great video!
6:36 As a once diehard fan of CoD3 its worth nothing the PS3 version had ALOT that the 360 didn't. PS3 didn't have any DLC as mentioned, but also had no achievements, no MP voice chat and ran at 30FPS where 360 ran the game at 60. After playing CoD3 for YEARS watching a CoD3 video in 60FPS blows my mind
22:03 I Also used to do this.
Mike "viewmodel" Denny pops up everywhere.
I think the valves and crane lever could be left assets from Campaign Level called "Falaise Road" where both are found in the level
The call of duty community needs to come together and demand Call of Duty 3 be ported to PC like all the other call of duty games.
Same with Big Red One.
21:57 call of duty’s schizophrenia community coming together
Anyone notice the racoon climbing a tree at like 44:35 ?
I ran into Eli's search while trying to find a game in CoD3 (sue me, CoD3 has extremely fun multiplayer). I can confirm these guys were looking multiple days in a row. Eli was flying off of an enemy player, and I found it very funny
Not only the quotations around words to search for that exact text, but there's tons of other hidden things it accepts you can search too. Some that I use enough to have memorized are a minus sign in front of a word (-modern) would exclude that from your search results, so something like "call of duty 3" -modern -warfare -black -ops would be much better, and you can get fancier with capitalized AND and OR keywords to further script-like edit your searches
Oh man, I really hope this gives CoD3 a little revival
screenshot map in game and then transfer to USB then use that in photoshop [a little trick from a former QA worker for activision]
If you try to take a screenshot from a top view on this map in CoD3, the heavy fog simply hides the geometry. There is also no variable to disable the limit on the maximum tilt of the player's camera, unlike other games
I found it so funny how mad he was towards the other player. He seemed so casual about playing CoD 3’s multiplayer. Like it wasn’t even 2024 😂
This is a really well put together video i never played this cod but this video has intrigued me greatly into the mystery heres to hoping it gets solved soon
Most people never played the dlc maps on cod3. The dlc split the player base and most of us deleted the dlc so we could find matches quicker. Champs was the only map that came up frequently because it was free.
😂 that part where two players joined just to settle their years old beef in your lobby was so random.
Call of Duty 3 is so underappreciated though. I still go back to the 360 just to play it.
Im pretty sure i remember as a kid seeing it pop up during a match but i thought it was some hacker doing something, im pretty sure if its finally found properly it should show up on the screen and not in some sorta hidden area most likely
I think populated lobby has many players doing their own things to trigger the pop up during the match.
We need more original veteran players come to our community and contribute to cod3's undiscovered easter eggs to solve the mystery.
4 player mode? Have the deaths equal the year?
Something that was mentioned in the interview as an example was the order of capturing objectives. I think that's worth looking into because it would be a very only-code style of message to implement. Thinking like a comeback amount of captures in ctf simply or maybe an odd war progression idk.
I watched this video until to the end, i thought that your team will solve that easter egg cod3 ironclad map
Will waiting until you discover it
Nice video by the way, especially your team contact with the old dev cod3
Videos like these are the reason im always late to work
Take the flags into the room where the doors change depending on the game mode and drop and pick them up a bunch?
Maybe the easter egg was the randos we met along the way.
I think the Photos of the marriage and the two Guys IS the key, the two Guys are Sure ment to be the two developers
Thank you this is a very good video one of my favorite topics is Easter eggs in specific obscure and especially unsolved Easter eggs reminds me of lost media in a way
YOOOOO COD3 MENTIONED 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Big props to Jason for being a cool cat and helping you guys
Juliana is the prize and so is the flag maybe take the flag to a special spot
Context on the extra room, in the war game mode, you don't spawn in the usual spawn points, you spawn at the nearest flag for your team that's not the contested flag. So that room being next to a flag will just be so you have somewhere covered to spawn in when that's the designated spawn point.
This 1 hour video defines the term "blue balls"
SHOOT THE HOOK
The name on the boat “Juliana” has seven letters. And on the back of the car the license plate says “621373” maybe that’s the order you shoot the letters in?? 55:00
Also potentially a part of a sequence
Artist creating map first and developer makes codes last so both teams are separated during development according to Jason's interview.
Still worth trying to mess around, just in case.
I bet that the easter egg will end up being just extra text displayed underneath Juliana on the boat saying “Will You Marry Me”. Seems the easiest thing to throw a visibility animation with a script on
this video started with marriage ee to being patched out because they broke up, is it possible that youre playing on the patch that removed the ee?
The valves and the control panel are both used in the main story, specifically the Falaise Road mission. The control panel operates a crane and the valves (while they are placed on a gas tank pipe) turn and eventually come off said pipe, creating an explosion.
Those guys that joined your cod 3 lobby and we're fighting and then set aside their differences to help. Was a story I wasn't expecting 😂
Being one of the few kids who played CoD 3 on PS2 slightly after it came out, the only information that's already know to the public and probably you the YTer, is that valves and control box/panels played a part in the campaign, so it would possibly make sense that it involves them somehow. And from the advice of McCord about maybe shooting things might help, but I would look into what other Easter eggs were put in by Mike Denny and look for common theme or method. Also, that electrical box/speaker at 1:05:35 looked very unique.
I downloaded this map and it’s looks very interesting, also the Map Stalag 23 had the “Waiting for you” skull which needed a sniper scope to view.
You mean the exact map and easter egg they already talked about in the video... 18:30
Back in black ops one I found a glitch that I never saw reposted anywhere ever , I’m the zombies mode if you where hosting the match you could use a set of inputs in specific locations on any zombies map and it would put out where of the bounds and you could play the map jumping anywhere in the map and all online , never found any that’s reposted it I think it still works it’s been a while since I’ve tested it but if there was any extra hidden images out there it would be a cool way to see them
12 bulbs, 6 valves, 4 crane controls, 2 fog horn/air raid sirens... 6+6=12 maybe, as Jason McCord said it would be in a specific order. I played Cod from CoD4MW - MW2/2022. I know that in zombies at least World at War there were a bunch of triggers on random objects like on Verukt the chair on the German side starting room and the laughing bookshelf in Shi No Numa there might not be an animation because that would take a while to add especially for 3 different types of triggers. This is all assuming that it isnt just the 12 valves in general and as McCord had said he was "lazy" making the invisible barrier only so high, it might be possible the made it possible to get over intentionally to do some thing.
What a deep dive. Love seeing these forgotten Easter eggs
