Looks like a Speedatron head in a softbox. Just about every studio style strobe has a modeling light so you can see a good representation of what you are going to get but yes you do need to know what you are going to get .

I don't comment often on videos, but when I saw the photos my breath was actually taken away. I love how you can pose Young M.A. but still make the photos feel so natural even in the studio setting. It feels real personal.

Thank you for this! I really need a refresher course on studio lighting with film. It’s been awhile. Maybe you could do one with info on how you meter the strobes and settings for camera and strobes. Also metering the background to keep it white or actual color. Also did you use a back light as well to avoid shadows? I didn’t see one but I also didn’t see shadows. Maybe I need to watch again, lol! You are doing great to be so young and to be so influential in photography already! “Back in the day” before youtube, we didn’t learn from or about other photographers until they had already been around for 30 or more years and then you had to pay to hear them speak or teach a workshop. So thankful for RUclips and that photographers like you benefit from it and we, your audience, benefit from you being on it as well. Keep up the good work!

Hey Willem! Another great and informative episode. Would you maybe comment or consider doing another vid overviewing how you metered with the strobe? Without an EVF or a tethered PC, i.e., without shooting digital, I'm wondering how you got your exposures so spot-on.

Great shots - get a polaroid back for proofing your strobe lit stuff. That's how we used to do it back in the day. Polaroid is fussy re exposure so is a good guide.

Hey! this is amazing by the way, I love how your photography rendered the skin tones and clothing in such a soft, yet contrast-y, natural way. I have a question about the fake window lighting, did you use an actual window and projected the light through it to create a window frame shadow? or did you attach something to the actual light? I'd love to know - I've never seen this technique before and its brilliant.
