It was a great documentary, told all sides, players, fans, media, legal, management. Then you make up your mind, not just the one sided 10 second loop played lazily over and over again that it's been for the last 15 or so years.
He was tremendous in this documentary, Meta was honest but kind all over the place, S-Jax was raw as always. JO was thoughtful and reflective, Reggie was great as well.
Haven't seen the documentary yet but plan to. However I always thought it was terrible how the NBA and the Media pretty much threw the players under the bus.
And punished them each differently in a manner that had more to do with the NBA's perception of them individually, regardless of what took place that night.
JO speaks so eloquently!, its sad to remember that the Pacers that year was so good, I was really rooting for them to win, they were supposed to be the East representative in the Finals, and the Malice happened. dang. but he seems to be doing great now. it's great to see people rise above their past.
I agree. J.O. was the player most hurt by that night. He was merely trying to act responsibly in a hostile situation and footage says as such. Yet he received a penalty by the league as harsh as Metta and Wallace who sparked the whole thing. The game checks he lost, legal fees he had to pay, and worse of all was his good reputation. He like Kwame Brown, 2 HS players from SC, who the media have vilified, are finally speaking out with the real truth about their NBA journey. Both are standing proud and successful with quiet scandal free lives. Well done gentlemen! I just typed in documentaries on Netflix last night and thus jumped out so I watched. The documentary is excellent hope you enjoy it.
they have Tim Donaghy in the documentary talking about how it was hard to referee guys like Artest...Hard how, Tim? Hard to shave points? How does Donaghy make that documentary???
Tim never messed with the outcome of the game for his gain (I know this sounds crazy at first). The nba (stern specifically) told the refs exactly how to call certain games, and Tim was able to take advantage of that. It wasn’t shaving points, it was more of insider trading

He’s an articulate and well spoken man. Most athletes are meat heads and rely on scripted responses. This guy is a good, thoughtful speaker and thinks well on his feet. The surprising thing is o'neal was drafted right out of high school - he's uneducated in the formal sense. I always wonder what a guy like this, with natural smarts, could have done if he devoted his time to science instead of athletics and became a chemist or a physicist.
I know you don't mean anything negative by it, but that whole "he's an articulate guy" line is like a backwards compliment. As if he's not expected to be articulate for whatever reason. Again, I know you don't mean anything by it.
Articulation and computation whilst retrieving information from short term memory are different operations. It's difficult to infer how one would perform in math based on how one speaks. That being said, speaking in simple and quickly understandable terms (which O'Neal does) is a marker of higher intelligence.
