Fun fact: one day I found a complete Wii system in box at a local thrift store on very good condition. Opened and hooked it up to realise the system had parental control enabled. At that time I didn't knew this procedure, but decided to try Nintendo customer support. Called it, got in contact with someone is less than 5 min and unlocked my Wii with success. I was quite impressed by their customer support. Also, in 2020 Nintendo still has their unlock service for DSi and Wii if you call them and have a good reason to tell them.
