Bud, I was finally able to get gator blades for my fw15. Started with Oregon 396-716. They have the carbide edge (g6). Take 'em to a machine shop along with an old blade and they can punch out the holes to match. They are much better than the factory wavy mulch blades (those had no lift at all). Can really cover more ground before the bagger is full and best of all it picks up acorns and sticks way better.

Hey Bud, I’m actually considering buying the Fw15. Also looking at the FW25 used about 3 years old with 30 hours on it or $4500. Seems a little high though. May go with the FW15. Any idea if the cut of the 15 improves while side discharging and using the high lift blades and removing the deflector? I read somewhere that the cut quality improved quite a bit in this configuration
Yes, it does cut best in that configuration. In my experience, mulch kits require slower speed and better conditions to get the ideal cut and finish. This mower cuts great with the mulch kit, but if you don't need or want to mulch remove the baffle and let it eat!
Thank you for the great video. I just did my first oil change on the FW15. I used an oil extractor but with this machine I wasn't able to put the hose all the way into the engine. Hi 👋 appreciate your channel I Just bought the fs 15 . How does the close off Shute you have there work? Does it mulch good in most conditions ? Thanks Todd Absolute landscaping
Hello, appreciate your views. I have the factory mulch kit on it and honestly I have not used it much but I plan to this season. When I did use it, it was dry conditions and it worked great.
Question about the speed control; the bar on the handle engages the drive and the lever on the panel controls the speed. Is the bar just an on/off switch? In other words, does pressing on the bar in any amount fully engage the drive wheels or does it go faster or slower depending on how far you depress the bar, with the lever acting as a max speed limiter?
HandyGuy 2016 thank you! I haven’t been able to find a video that addressed that question. It would be a deal breaker for me if it weren’t configured that way.
Hey Bud, if you get a chance could you see what number is stamped into the blades? I’m curious whether this uses the same blades as my 48” Z1. That would be ideal. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure they would not be the same because the FW 15 blades have 3 holes oOo for mounting and they are smaller overall than the blades on my 52".
Do you think this is worth the buy for a homeowner? I’m in the market for a good quality mower and I don’t think I’ll get a decent riding mower until I hit 5-6k. Atm I’m running a Troy bilt with a Honda mower but the 21 inch deck is kinda small for what I’m doing.
Depends how many hours you're going to put on the mower, but for residential use the 33 inch Cub Cadet would be a good option at about half the price. Once you're at machines of this level you are definitely paying a premium for relatively small increases in durability and quality.
My FW15 has 15 Hours as well, bought it late last season. I modified mine with a side bagger system which works fantastic! I kept staring at the caster, when you were doing close-ups, waiting for you to start saying something bad about them.

HandyGuy 2016 Awesome, I am as well and thought about trying to get into the lawn care business on the side
@@bigshoe84 It has worked out great for me, I'm almost ready to leave the fire service to do lawn care full time. It's a great side hustle if you just want additional income and stay with the fd also.
HandyGuy 2016 I appreciate the replies, I guess my biggest holdout has been the whole starting a business and all the tax stuff that goes with it.
@@bigshoe84 talk to a CPA, they can tell you everything you need to know and help you take a step at a time. It's not bad, I had the same reservations.
Price🤗
Around $2800
@@HandyGuy2016 thanks bro.
Guys, that review these mowers I have yet to see someone tell me if the blade system is a timed or independent. If it's timed like that goofy Toro it's too dangerous. Iam guessing it has 2 blades would've been nice showing underneath and talking about the blades instead of talking about the height adjusters and bagging. I have a Foley Quad Cut that has 4 8 inch blades from 1961 with a cast Aluminum deck 32 inch wide makes my yard looking like a golf course and can go through 8 inches if grass without bogging down I'll put this mower up against this or any other mower on the market!
Caster broke on the 6th week of use. my fw15 don't worth $3000 sorry
Breaking caster front wheels seem to be a continuous problem on this model I heard they fixed it in the late spring of 2020. But I do not know that the fix is a factual point or not. Does anybody know that?
Hydro with chain drive right? Do you have to service the chain ?
That is correct and not that I know of. I have checked mine and it hasn't needed anything yet. Had it 3 seasons now.
