Sorry re-replying to you. I thought you commented on a different video. Lol. Thank you for your comments and watching! Hopefully some these tips will make the learning process a little easier for you. At the end of the day, practice makes perfect, but your gear also needs to be dialed in whether or not you’re a pro or beginner.

The skate lacing I always forget after 15 years doing a basic tie job. And I always have loose skates mid game and drives me nuts. This is a good reminder that I need to do Everytime. Loose skates make me mental mid game

Yeah loose skates is a great way to be annoyed while skating. Lol. Maybe one of these lacing methods is worth a try.

Great tips thank you! Just curious what shin pads would you recommend purely for mobility & comfort. My current league doesnt allow slappers so I dont really need to worry about having the most protective gear. Its the last piece of equipment im yet to upgrade.. so far im thinking the hyperlites. Thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks!

Hey there, thanks for the comments and questions! So I think you have a couple good choices. Personally, I’ve had negative experiences around quality and durability with Bauer protective and have a hard time recommending any of their retail stuff. I think the CCM Jetspeed line (FT6 Pro and down) are right up your alley. You don’t need to go top end to get what you’re looking for. I’d look at two levels down from the top. Another option is pro stock RBK. It’s pro level protection that you don’t need, but the fit is great and the price is also better than retail if you buy used on SidelineSwap. Just be aware that pro stock pads are slightly longer than retail. For example, a 14” pro stock shin pad is about 14.5”. Let me know what you end up with or if you have follow up questions.

Hm. I used to go tongue in, but now I have to go tongues out. It was probably because my shin pad was a bit too long (I have short legs and wear 14's but CCM 14's are longer than bauer 14's). I used to think I needed insoles, I was just in poorly fitted skates. I went from 7EE to the new Tacks in 6 wide. I wear 8.5 shoes. Skates fit now, no foot pain, CCM insoles were fine.

I think your comment is probably consistent with a lot of players. That is, there shin pad length drives how they where the tongue. A little thought about what kind of mobility one wants will help with that decision.
