Eastonmade; Will A 5-11 Run A Box Wedge?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 окт 2024
- We get asked a lot whether or not our 5-11 will run a box wedge or a 6 way. The short answer is; YES!!!
However we don't typically recommend in because I feel like it slows the machine down more than what's necessary.
Let me know what you think.
I really appreciate all the support and feedback guys. It means the world to us. If you haven't done so already hit the like and SUBSCRIBE button and I'll keep you up to date with what happening around Eastonmade.

I've never done this before so lets start out with a giant piece of Hard Maple now thats a VIDEO gotta love it well done
Thanks for all the support tim. Really appreciate it
Yes yes yes the. Video I’ve been waiting yes awesome!!
Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for all the support
This is an amazing video. The slowdown during splits is expected although less of a slow down than I would have thought.
How in the world could I not keep coming back? Best splitters I have ever seen.
Lol....thanks for the feedback and support. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the videos
hi there another nice one john
LOL! You took her right to task - no fooling around - big hardwood! I didn't know either - thanks for sharing it with us Andrew. BTW - your video editing is getting better all the time. Love the new angles and attention to detail. Be well !
Thanks for all the support gord. Practice makes perfect
Your opinion is HUGE. You are the one putting the product out there. If you think it's too slow, chances are the homeowner/firewood seller will too. You know what works and what doesn't.
Thanks for the feedback and support ray. Really appreciate it
Will a 5-11 run a box wedge? Absolutely. Speaks loads about your product and craftsmanship. Like you said though 9-16 and 12-22 would do it faster. Just really impressed seeing the 5-11 doing work with that box wedge!
Gawd I know this is 3 years old but I love this set up !
I really like the box blade. You don't have to wrestle the big half split logs, the machine does it for you. What a back saver!
Nice looking splits, I think it’s a good machine for anyone not in a hurry, but the # of splits makes up for slower speed.
This it does. Thanks for the feedback jim. Really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to watch the video
Love the upgrade ..... I'm talking about the vertical support devices on your pants!! 😁
Lol...have a puppy and hes eaten 4 belts on me now. Good luck with the suspenders lol
lol
Still loving the Axis after watching 1000 videos of everything else on the market.
About ready to pull the trigger, and hurry up and wait.
Impressive! I think that would be a good option for if youre on more of a budget and/or just dont need a larger machine. Not as fast as the 9-16, but it’ll still do the job and hold up for years.
Nicely done!
Thanks alan. Really appreciate the support
Your machines are fantastic. One day I will have one. Anyway yes I agree with you the box wedge slows it down.
I think it does to. However it may work well for some folks that aren't concerned about time at all. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it
If the customer want it n it can handle it....y not! All ur machines r beasts 👍🏽!
Thanks for all the support. Really appreciate it
Awesome exactly the video I was hoping to find I'm thinking about a 5.11 with a box wedge we sell lots of Aspen and i think it would work awesome
great looking machine!
Thanks jared. Really appreciate the feedback
Another great video👍🏻
Thanks mike. Really appreciate the support
Looks like, question answered. Real good video, and again like last night's video, the muffler on both those videos sounded just like a banjo!!! Sounds pretty darn good, and give the 511 a big thumbs up. Speed isn,t everything and the wood coming out of those boxes was just perfect. Like you said the box wedge does slow the 511 down, but the 511 did a great job.
Thanks for all the feedback and support ed. Really appreciate you taking to time to watch the videos.
I honestly just love this 511 set up with the box wedge and the pull back arm. It would be a lot better if I would have seen a pair of gloves in the video.
@@edzeigler1164 lol....give it another month or so and I'll have them on 😀
Now you got something..I like this setup, the conveyer is right way to go.thats how I would have designed it...(cleans itself better).now I'd add electric start, and bigger fuel tank.....you getting there..good job.
Lol. Appreciate all the feedback Oliver. It's always nice to get another perspective!!!
Very interesting video!
Thanks david. Really appreciate the support
Andrew, I have just caught up with all your videos and have enjoyed them all. I installed a woodstove in my house in 1998, I bought 4 face-cords of wood so I could try it out and found that I could get wood for free if I spent a little time going to get it and split it. I've been doing it ever since. I started splitting by hand. It is amazing how many frustrations of the day can be worked out whacking away on a chunk of wood. Quite a few years ago now I ended up spending my spare time hauling and cutting wood, but hadn't had time to split a supply for heating the house so I tried renting a few different types to see what I liked and didn't. I started looking to see if I could find a used machine, but found them to be a pretty hot commodity. A few friends were watching their local papers for me and I was finally able to bring one home. I have been mostly splitting for my own use, not seeing that I would want to do more than that mainly because with the equipment I had it really wouldn't be worth my time. Since I started using my own splitter, I have seen some videos of wood processors, but that is really beyond my scope. The Easton Made products are the first commercial grade splitters I have seen and from your videos I can see these could actually pay for themselves. Thanks for putting out these videos. They have given me a lot of food for thought. I was wondering whether you do any shows in Michigan? One other thing I would like to add is that I am an Ontario transplant in Michigan. It really brings me back to hear your conversations with others. All the best to you and I hope that I can see your equipment in person some day. Best regards, Pete in Michigan
Thanks for all the support Pete. The great lakes logging and equipment conference cycles between escanaba, Michigan and oshkosh Wisconsin. It's the only one I know of in Michigan.
I’d love either 5-11 or Axis, but I’m just doing for myself with my grandson helping, mostly we cut fell, buck, split and haul every weekend. Often in the woods, with a pickup to pull it up the hill, I don’t have logs delivered, but I’m working with trees from 12” to 30”, so need a log lift. I have a horizontal/ vertices, but but don’t like using the vertical, so I want your log lift. I do about 25-30 cords per year for OWB, but would like to finish the day of doing a cord or so and still walking.
That 5-11 is a mighty machine. It certainly punches above its weight class.
Thanks for all the feedback and support. Really appreciate it
Another great video. Really helps trying to decide which machine to buy next yr.
Thanks for the feedback and support. I hope the video helps out
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters been looking at your aplitters.for a while. Was recently in a bad accident at work. Arm is in rough shape. Definitely going to need something with a log lift in the future.
@@PheasantLaneFarm hopefully you get on the mend and back in shape. No fun being laid up.
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters not at all. Dru k driver. Have 20 screws and 3 plates in my arm. Really put a damper on my side wood business.
When I first seen your box wedges I didn’t think they was a good idea and now I’ll say that’s just because you don’t see them around where I live or I haven’t seen them anyways so I wasn’t accustomed to them . Now that Iv watched you run them I’ll for sure be adding one to my order from you when the day comes that I get to order a splitter from y’all!!
It's a different way of splitting for sure, but it saves a lot of labour in the big rounds. Thanks for all the support trent it is very much appreciated
Im thinking you could make the arms to fit outher machines. Still make the eastern it is a great machine. Save ALOT of time producing arms and not as big of a wait time for buyers.
How does your numbering/naming system work? EG. 5-11, how many tons pressure etc? Great video, love the box splitter
Hp-pump flow . The 5-11 through 12-22 are all on the same chassis and are 24 tons. The 22-28 is similar, it is 37 tons
Looking at all your videos and trying to find the best one for me. We are running three wood boiler
That would be a hard call to make. We do make them with longer strokes.
I think this would be a great setup for an equipment rental company. Cheaper models as you said but still way better then a typical rental place log splitter. Trust these pieces to withstand the abuse also.
That's a great application for it. Good heavy machine that can take the abuse with a good ROI. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video
Great demostration! I believe those paddles or bars riding on the conveyor surface, should be flipped over so the short vertical side will precede the higher vertical side of the bars. It seems this way it can bite or grab onto the wood pieces much better, maybe go one step farther, cut some sawtooth into the higher vertical side of the bar.🔥
The saw tooth would help. The only downfall to that is that it wears out the rubber flap and the bottom of the conveyor. We found this out with our axis. Wood would get jammed as the paddles rotated around the top shaft of the were turned the other way. Really appreciate the feedback.
We split primary oak. We can tend to go 26-30” pieces. Im not totally sure, if with that box wedge (I’m not totally sure if it will push it) through knots and crotches. It is good so see how clean it came off the splitter head so cleanly. Usually oak and come off pretty stringy. As always thanks for the video!!! I have with a box wedge give strong consideration.
It think it would likely split it no problem but it would slow it right down.
Food for thought I hear one of those little sore eggs that you can hook a motor to run a table make a wood splitter attachment for it too and you can split for foot and pick up the forefoot piece and just put him out of table and just seeing just cut him one after another goes real fast
I think the box wedge work great i am not that much for speed any more because at my age i dont move that fast any more either lol
The 5-11 with the box wedge is definitely slower than it's bigger brothers but it looks faster than wrestling the same round through a single or 4-way wedge..... At least if I was doing the wrestling! Saves wear and tear on the operator. It looks like a great answer for someone who is doing wood for themselves and/or extended friends/family. Say fewer than 50 cords a year. As someone else pointed out it would make an awesome rental machine too!
I think you're right on with that dave. Really appreciate the feedback and support
Andrew I've seen all your splitters that 5-11 is all a guy would ever need unless he had a firewood business. The average Joe that needs a log lift the 5-11 is the way to go.P S are you hiring any log splitter testers?
I ordered one identical to this in 7-2022. I have a 12 month wait time now
Well Done. My virtual friend. Hey , whats the verdict on the Bags. Yes ,No, or Yes but not on my operation?
Will do an update on it. I think they would work good for a lot of guys for me not so much. Just because I dont always have a conveyor or dedicated piece of equipment to move the bags
Did some timed comparisons of the 5-11, 9-16, and 12-22 with the box wedge. The 5-11 is equal to the orhers in speed when it hits a knot because the tonnage ratings are the same. In clean wood, the 5-11 gets smoked with a box wedge.
I dont normally recommenc a box wedge on a 5-11. Slos down to much
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters I'm looking at the 12-22 or 22-28.
What's the cycle time difference between the 5-11 and 9-16? After this mornings workout with oak and a vertical splitter, I'd take it!
Aroun 2 seconds
I think for your average guy splitting for himself it would work fine.
I think for a homeowner guy or someone not wanting huge production it would work great. Thanks for the feedback Charlie. Really appreciate it
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters For the same price as the 5-11 with box wedge, you could buy the basic Axis splitter and have a faster more capable machine, in my humble opinion.
If I was in r&d
I'd try a 13gpm pump with the same engine, and see what affects good, bad, indifferent, it had.
.
For out west, dealing with larger soft-wood, on a fairly small operation, it definitely has potential in my mind.
0.01c
Its just not a standard size pump. 2 stage pumps typically go from 11-16
@Eastonmade Wood Splitters limiting the number of items you need to stock, I can see the advantage of that.
.
I worked for mobile manufacturering. that made the mobile dimension sawmill, and after 50 years all the things that needed to be stocked or the jigs needed to make something was amazing
If I had a box wedge and that splitter Id probably put nylon pads under the log return so the nice powder coating doesn't get scratched :)
That may be an idea. That's for the feedback. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video
she will get it done for a guy for sure and more affordably. The more I watch these box wedge units run the more I think i'd like to go that route someday,
They are really handy for sure. Thank you for the support and feedback
Seems a little slower but not to slow. My splitter is operated off my tractor hyd and mounted on 3 point hitch. It always runs at about your speed with the big rounds. Seems ok to me. I don’t get in a hurry splitting wood.
Thanks for the feedback thomas. I think this is the perfect fit for someone wanting to have a really good splitter that just enjoys getting out and splitting wood.
I’d take one in a New York minute!
Eagerly waiting on delivery of my 12-22! Can’t wait! What are the paddles made out of on the conveyor?
The padels are 3/16 plate that is formed. Really tough paddles
I’m waiting on my 5-11 supposed to be December I can’t wait!!!
great machine. just to under powered to run the box wedge
Nice job. Great machine. Almost no handling of wood with consistent size pieces. Speed for some older wood guys isn’t an issue.
Thars true. It's not always a race. Some guys just want to get out in the wood yard and enjoy their time. Thanks for all the support Marc. It's very much appreciated
Even if you are moving wood at a good pace this thing makes like a cord of wood in less than a hour so it’s not that slow
Gut mašina, Okej. Mašina Dobra mašina Harošaja mašina🆗👍👏👋
All good
Thanks terry
I'm not sure if the first round was displayed at real time, but what looked like a piece of dead red oak about 20" in diameter, and was still pretty wet, but I timed it at 2:35, still far quicker than it would have taken with a conventional splitter from the big box store. Myself, I'm lazy and like to have the round on the splitting deck and touch it as little as possible, this fit the bill and provided consistently sized pieces as a saleable product.
I may need to go back and watch the video, but I'm pretty sure it showed all the splits on that round. It is still a huge upgrade from a homeowner machine for sure. Really appreciate the feedback and support
Would love to have a 37D but this is much closer to my budget.
Love your product, great price point , looks super durable. Great cycle times just too expensive to have shipped down here to lower California. Wish I could own 1, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for all the feedback and support. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to watch the video. Maybe someday we will find reasonable freight to lower California
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters it’s a long way from u to here, not sure how much of a market there is out here but you do have one of the best and most affordable splitters on the market. Like u said same platform just different systems pushing everything. 1 day I’ll find 1 close to me, or will be able to get 1 shipped. Keep up the good work man, great products, a working mans splitter for sure. 👍
Love your videos! In my opinion I don’t think it is any slower than you taking and using a four way. If you have to take those four pieces and split them again. Honestly it depends on the size you want. What if someone already owns that splitter. Instead of buying a new one then they can just but the wedge splitter!
This is very true kurt. Maybe it would be worth doing a video comparing the 4 way and the box wedge. The box wedge saves a lot of labour in those big rounds. Thanks for the feedback and support. Really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to watch the video.
I ordered my 5-11 with the box wedge as I often do big pieces like that wrestling them around with the single or 4 way was getting to be to much work
I think you're right on track with that joe thanks for the feedback and support. Really appreciate it

Its putting in a shift for sure. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it
High profit "pizza wood" might be just the ticket to make the most out of your limit wood lot of hard wood. How is the oil temperature? Does the heavy load at low flow heat up? Nice video of yet another variation. Take care
Thanks for all the support David. The oil doesn't heat up much on the 5-11. There's enough oil in the tank for the pump not to get hot.
Be perfect for a two boiler guy like myself!
What's up bud just a crazy old farts in Connecticut I like the thing works just fine like I said if you're not doing commercial I should work out just great I'm building us or rig with a motor and then I want to four foot log splitter but I can sit there and just saying the same thing with same all day long
That 5-11 how many ton is that ??
Love these splitters ..
24ton
Do u sell a box wedge that could be modified or made to use on other splitters ?
@@chrisbittman5634 no
That's ok ..
I know the videos two years old Andrew but if you get this what does that set up cost?
The box wedge adds $900 to the price
How much is the 511 with the box wedge and the pullback arm
$7800
I guess that box wedge is the same is the rest of the splitters, or at least up to the 12-22, so it does not cost you anything to offer it. Why not offer it. Now you have a video showing the speed of it and can refer the customer to this video. The speed isn't that bad, but a 12-22 is better. Someone upgrading from a home owner grade splitter would be happy. It would be great for the guy that does a few cords a year and want a commercial grade splitter with a box wedge. There was a guy that took a nothern tool splitter and put a box wedge on it. If you do some searching you can find on youtube. It had something like a 30 second cycle time.
I agree roger. If someone just wanted a really good splitter that will last and doesn't need huge production than this splitter will work great for them. Thanks for the feedback and support. Really appreciate it
Andrew I’m up here in NW Ontario, Greenstone. Wondering about a 3-1 box blade? Reason being we don’t have the hardwoods, spruce, jack pine, and yellow birch. Thinking about getting one as a rental unit for Cay Equipment.
Not sure i understand 3-1 box blade. Smallest we do is a 5 way the pieces are normally 4.5" wide. We could probably do a box wedge with no wings on the bottom effectively making it a 3 way
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters Sounds like we're talking the same language. Our normal firewood here is < 16" in diameter with a number of potential customers having boilers.
I'm in Perth normally once a year, family there, I'll make a point of dropping by.
New camera? Video looked great!
Yes. Got a hero9 now. Would like to get a more professional camera, but now sure what to do with it.
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters Well it looks great. Not sure how long you've been using it, but I noticed immediatly.
@@mattbelote3296 you got good eyes. This is the very first video with it 😁
You guys build a very heavy splitter. It's not for the faint of heart for sure. I've looked at your splitters and only wish you were closer to my location so I could talk to you about a few details where I think you could do some designing to make your great machines a little better than they already are. I bought what here in the USA was a really great splitter that I paid close to $10,000.00 bucks for and tore it all apart and re did it. It doesn't cycle as fast as yours and doesn't return on it's own. For that reason and some others your machine is better but could be just a little more clean than what I see. Perfection is always just one idea away. Nice splitter. And yes I did leave mechanical engineering school before obtaining a degree, but that has not stopped my mind from always tearing things apart to make them stronger, tougher but lighter.
Thanks for all the feedback and support james. Always gotta reach for higher ground.
Which machine(s) do you recommend for running the box wedge? Thanks
I would personally stick with the 12-22 or 22-28
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters okay, thanks for the information
What’s the difference between auto retract and auto cycle on the 5-11?
Auto retract will only allow the lever to lock on for the reverse stroke. Autocycle will detent forward and reverse
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters Do you mean that with autocycle that it will cycle continuously until the operator stops it?
I feel like leave the box wedge for the 22-28 and the 12-22. And why do you run a single chain and paddles on the elevators instead of a belt
I think so to. Belts tend to wear, slip and not track right. The chain is a positive drive all the time. Doesn't matter the weather or conditions.
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters thanks i had not looked at it like that
Do ye make tractor pro driven to hydraulic log splitter
No not right now
Does this 5-11 have a auto cycle ?
Hey Andrew how’s it going I had a question for you how much wood conveyor wood cost
Depends on the length. What one are you thinking ben?
What sices do you have
I like your new video today you did a good jop today do have a wood stove if you do can you make a video off your wood stove too buddy good jop today buddy
Thanks for all the support travis. I have a wood stove and an outdoor furnace
Cool buddy make a video off your wood stove some time buddy did my like button work for you buddy
Whats the tonnage on this machine since usually thats how the the "industries" ratings go?
24 tons
With a box wedge it is still faster than a big box store splitter and built a hundred times better
I have called a couple of times to get some info about which model you think would be best. Waiting patiently for a return call.
It split so crooked you reversed the log. Maybe if you put the knife bevel underneath instead of on top, then it wouldn't have the uneven splitting problem.
I don't burn wood but electricity may become unreliable or too expensive.
Different people need different capacity splitters.
How did the hunting trip go Andrew?
Really slow year. Only got one smaller buck on a night hunt. Heading back out Friday and Saturday. Hopefully someone gets one. Wont be much of a hunting video without actually getting something lol.
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters too damn warm out.
@@mjmtreeservicemaintenance2940 that's for sure hunted in t shirts last week
Shes a little slower than the big brothers but all in all for someone like me that heats with wood and does maybe 12 to 15 cords a year for my self and family that would be kick ass set up. We get some bigger stuff 18 to say 24 inches, and Im getting a bit long inthe tooth for the single wedge and with the big stuff even the 4 way isnt much fun. But this little girl seems to just eat the big stuff up
This machine here would really fit the bill for you then. I think I always get this big production/cycle time caught in my head for some reason. Really appreciate the feedback and support

For you that must feel like going from a f1 to a Toyota
I am surprised it can handle that at any speed, that poor little Honda is being beat to death. I do think the machine is being worked too hard and running in the second stage all the time cannot be good.
