Long tube headers are a great mod for your dodge charger , is this exhaust set up too loud for your mopar ?
Long tube headers are a popular aftermarket upgrade for the Dodge Charger, especially for those looking to improve performance and increase the exhaust note. Here's what you can expect from installing long tube headers on a Dodge Charger:
Performance Gains: Long tube headers are designed to improve exhaust flow by replacing the restrictive factory exhaust manifolds. This improvement in exhaust flow can result in increased horsepower and torque throughout the RPM range. The exact performance gains will vary depending on other modifications and tuning, but it's not uncommon to see gains of 15-30+ horsepower with long tube headers on a Dodge Charger.
Enhanced Exhaust Note: Long tube headers can also change the sound of the exhaust system, giving the Dodge Charger a more aggressive and deeper tone. The increased exhaust flow and scavenging effect provided by long tube headers typically result in a louder and more pronounced exhaust note, especially at higher RPMs.
Improved Throttle Response: With better exhaust flow, the engine can breathe more freely, leading to improved throttle response and acceleration. This can make the Dodge Charger feel more responsive and lively, especially during spirited driving.
Professional Installation Required: Installing long tube headers on a Dodge Charger is a relatively involved process and typically requires professional installation. This involves removing the factory exhaust manifolds and replacing them with the long tube headers. Additionally, modifications may be needed to ensure proper fitment and clearance, especially if the Charger is equipped with other aftermarket components.
Tuning Recommended: While not always required, it's generally recommended to retune the engine after installing long tube headers. This allows the engine's computer to optimize performance and ensure proper air-fuel ratios. A custom tune can also take full advantage of the increased exhaust flow provided by the headers, maximizing performance gains.
Legal Considerations: Before installing long tube headers on your Dodge Charger, be sure to check local emissions regulations and laws. Some areas have strict emissions requirements that may restrict the use of aftermarket exhaust components like long tube headers.
Overall, long tube headers can be a worthwhile upgrade for Dodge Charger owners looking to unlock additional performance and enhance the exhaust note of their vehicle. With proper installation and tuning, long tube headers can provide significant improvements in horsepower, torque, and overall driving enjoyment.
Long tube headers can offer significant performance gains, especially on HEMI engines commonly found in Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep vehicles. Here's how they typically improve performance:
Increased Exhaust Flow: Long tube headers feature longer and larger-diameter tubes compared to stock exhaust manifolds. This design allows for better exhaust flow, reducing backpressure and improving engine efficiency.
Power and Torque Increase: With improved exhaust flow, the engine can breathe more freely, resulting in increased power and torque across the RPM range. This can lead to gains of 10-30+ horsepower depending on other modifications and tuning.
Improved Throttle Response: The reduction in backpressure and better scavenging can also improve throttle response, making the engine feel more responsive and eager to accelerate.
Enhanced Engine Sound: Long tube headers often produce a deeper, more aggressive exhaust note compared to stock exhaust manifolds, adding to the overall driving experience.
Potential for Additional Modifications: Long tube headers can complement other performance modifications such as intake upgrades, camshafts, and engine tuning, maximizing the overall performance gains.
It's important to note that while long tube headers can offer significant performance improvements, the actual gains may vary depending on factors such as the specific vehicle, engine configuration, other modifications, and the quality of the headers themselves. Additionally, professional installation and tuning are often recommended to ensure optimal performance and drivability.
