UPDATE: I know this video took longer than expected. I apologize. I was trying to wait until everything was accurately translated and she had time to make and send the symbols and translations. She did an amazing job with sending more and more documents, translations, images, etc... every day. I decided to make this video explaining her process and what we now know with part 1. Part 2 will have more translations and a better look at her cypher. We will also be discussing on Tuesday's Hylian Gamescast. Also, I am aware the audio may have a few messups. Sorry.

Based on the "deciphered" alphabet I think the text on the door would say something along the lines of "KUONROURSDN?KHERHEON???" (the ?s being letters that haven't been "deciphered" yet based on the information in this video). If it were chamber of sages you would expect the usual Japanese word 賢者の間 (kenja no ma) or at least just "kenja" anywhere but everything looks gibberish to me. I'm still very skeptical about this "translation" or the "deciphered" alphabet for that matter.

Will you be making the original Japanese text available in the next video? I'm a native-Japanese-speaker, but reading through what was available in this video just made me very confused, and I was unsure of how Zoey was translating. Certain parts, like "hikaru", meaning light, I totally agree with (though this is the verb form of light, the noun form of light is ひかり, or "hikari") - but certain parts really were just a jumble of random letters, or gibberish. Will there be more updated versions of her work in the next video? I'd also be really interested in learning how she translated them.
And certain things that stood out to me:
"Aitoru" isn't actually a word I've heard before - so it could very well mean "meeting of lovers"? Though if so it's a very uncommon word. To me it sounds more like "taking of love", just without the particle of を in between. (So correctly it would be written 「あいをとる」or "ai wo toru")
And if we were to take that hiragana and turn it to kanji, it would become 相取る, pronounced as "aidoru", which refers to 「人の助けを借りて行なうこと。 ② 共謀して詐欺など悪事を働くこと。 また、その人。 ③ 餠などをつく時、相方にまわる捏取(こねど)り。」 , or... you know how when Japanese people make mochi, one person uses the hammer, and the other sticks their hand into the mochi with water in between each beat? That kind of thing/relationship - working together?
Still, I commend her for her work! Thank you for making this video!!

Honestly, I have no idea how "AITSR" could be interpreted as あいとる to begin with. Furthermore the text on the logo looks more like IUSR? to me with the final symbol being unreadable and that looks even less Japanese. I really doubt even the letters are correct. Then there's also the issue that you could easily try to make sense of almost any kana-based sequences in Japanese even if they are complete gibberish given the lenient phonotactic restrictions of such a sequence. You basically only have to make sure ん or voiced consonants don't appear in unusual places. The only word that looks somewhat natural in this "translation" is ひかる and considering it has neither repeating kana nor repeating letters in any romanization system you could just put any 6-letter word without repeating letters there. It might as well be, say, zeruda for all we know.

      @@yum2735 Yesss exactly 👏👏
You summed it up so well - and yeah. I could believe that maybe this new script/text is a cipher on Japanese, but most definitely the key is wrong. I didn't actually check the original decoding, though. AITSR? Really? It's probably not but even if we were to say that key was correct wouldn't it be more logical to assume that that TS is a つ? How do you get と from that? And even then it's still not a word 😅

    • @busycrying

I think the theory that it's "aidoru" - 相取る makes much more sense considering that these runes were found on the two dragons. It could be referring to Link and Zelda working together as a pair in protecting Hyrule from Malice and so on. The chosen hero and the goddess incarnate/descendant. Yin and Yang. Maintaining balance in the world. That kind of stuff. I'm so excited for this game!!!

As someone who speaks Japanese, I am confused about how „ai to ru“ translates to „meeting of lovers“ ?
„Ai“ could mean either „love“ or „meeting“ and „to“ can be roughly translated as „and“ or „with“, but the „ru“ does not make sense whatsoever?

    Thank you for the info!
I did some checks with what we can see in the video. A lot of the process is to translate the japaneese text, but not how it was found, I expected more insight on why some choices were made.
The first text (left side) is:
    H I K A R U K
    U K A R S H I
    H I K A R K A
Already we can see some errors (or choices not made clear) with the text proposed by Joey:
The "Deer" character ("C" in her mail, coding a "K") is an "F" (coding an "M") in two places in her transcription.
So her last two columns are
    U M A R S H I
    H I K A R M A I
Why this choice? But it's possible, we had codes with the same character encoding two letters before. Also, she added an "I" at the end of the last column. Again, why? I understand having the R floating, it could be something happening. But adding a I at the end to have a transcrption fit is not satisfactory. And why some R (like the first) have to be completed, and other not?
Then, all the translations break the first column. They are based on "Hikaruku", but the "K" and "U" of "KU" are from different columns. It doesn't feel right, but it could be possible.
The second text (right side) is:
    D A R I O S A
    O H E D A I
    E N K R O N
We can see also some inconsistencies here:
The first character of the second column is a "Snake", or an "S" for her (transcribed to "O"). But she misread the character to a "Deer", or "C" for her (transcribed to "K" or "M" for her). So her second column is "K H E D A I", which is incorrect, meaning the translation for this should be mostly incorrect to, or at least revised.
And, the transcrption to hiragana of this text is a bit strange.
It is transcribed to (I will put it in romaji for everyone to see):
    Da R(u) I O (no S) A / Ka He Da I / E N K(a) R(u) O N
I already said that KaHeDaI is incorrect because it is not the "Deer" character, so it should be "OHeDaI", but why choosing to remove the "S" in the first column? She removed an entire character. And, contrary to the first text, this time both R and K must be completed with vowels. There seems to be no rule. Instead of explaining how to make sense of this strange japaneese sentence, I would have loved to see explainations on how this sentence was created to begin with.
So, with that in mind, I really apreciate all the efforts put into the transcription, but there is too much inconsistencies to find it satisfactory. Why adding a character, and removing one? Did the translation have the mistake of the second column of second text corrected? Why the K need a vowel in the second text, but not the first one? Why some "R" need vowels, but not the first? Why not following the columns to form "Hi ka ru ku", but then explain that the translation is correct because of them?
So, I wait for further work on that, because there is too much inconsistencies. Like she said, the right solution will feel right, and this doesn't feel right. Too much tweaking involved to make it work make me uneasy, it looks like she's trying to make sense of random kanas by adding vowels, removing some characters and cutting the form of the text (columns).
But again, this is still great work, with a lot of insight. What I think is that there was too much work put in the translation of the transcribed text, but not enough refining said transcription, so that it is in vain. If you read this Zoey, keep going at it, this is not supposed to be harsh critic (english is not my first language), I think you do great work but this needs some changes for it to fit! I hope to see some more analysis on that :D

Hey there. I put the wrong characters on the final image and I’ve since corrected it. The characters in the initial email have evolved over time as I’ve weeded out mistakes that I’ve made. I originally indexed the rune for K twice under different key letters.
      The current text is:
      DARIOSAOHEDAIENKARAON
      HIKARUKUKARASHIHIKARAKA
I’m currently working with native speakers to update the Hiragana with the correct Kanji because on its own, there’s too much guesswork involved.
As far as adding/removing characters. On the left panel, if you remove the A after the second HIKAR, you’re still left with the stem word 光 all I’m doing by adding it is adding what’s implied by the stem word, which can be HIKAR/I/U/E/A. The reason for choosing A was based on the nearby vowel endings to keep it consistent. The other thing that I’ve just learned about is that historically, transliterations for Zelda games haven’t always included the Dakuten and it’s lead to situations where “ga” gets turned into “ka” but expanded for multiple syllables. This can cloud the message and meaning. I didn’t actually remove any characters at all, I just made a mistake in my final image.

I was quite sure that you had corrected the mistakes seen in the mail in the video, but the rest of the video was focused on the translation so I focused on what was shown. Yeah I don't recall any instances of Zelda characters with dakuten, so it increases further the amount of possibilities to chek... Not as on-board with it now. But I Initially was thinking the unknown deity might be something akin to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Days without the sun rising could refer to story of her fight with her brother the moon god Tsukuyomi where she hid herself away in a cave and deprived the world of light. Maybe the 7 tear looking things around her were actually light magatama since a strand of them belonged to her and is one of the three treasures of Japan. The twin dragons following one another could have been the two gods before their fight when they were almost inseparable. Not sure they were ever lovers. Though, that sort of stuff isn't too uncommon with gods for some reason.

@@Magic.Pixie.Dreamgirl Unfortunately, as a Japanese native speaker I do have to agree that this sounds like quite a bit of nonsense. The ひかる, part, sure, I understand where you're coming from, as well as the から, but changing it to 「ひかるく」 (I'm assuming this is being interpreted as "light", but being turned into a verb? ひかる is already a verb in itself, there's no reason to add the く) is just grammatically incorrect. 「しひからか」is just a non-sentence as well. (Or at the very least, has nothing to do with darkness.) Same goes for the right panel - it really just means absolutely nothing, so I was incredibly confused when it was shown on screen as if it were a complete sentence.
If we were to write out your translation in Japanese, of "from brightest day to the darkest", it would be something more along the lines of 「ひかるひからくらいひへ」, and even then that's just "from a bright day to a dark day". You could express it differently, of course, for example 「ひかりのひからくらやみのひへ」(and I won't claim to know all of Japanese vocabulary, I'm certain there are better ways to express it using better compound words), but what I'm trying to say is that it sounds nothing like the sentence you've produced here. The examples I've provided here also are really basic - like a child's Japanese - which could be poetic, I suppose? But I doubt so.
From what I can tell this seems to be a program trying to make connections or translations where there aren't any translations to be made? Still, I'd really appreciate getting to know more about your process, and look forward to the next video!

The rest seem to different from Gerudo and even different from the runes written on the wall next to the unidentified floati-boi diety. A tip for pronouncing Japanese words well enough for talking about a translation like this: The vowels in Japanese are a i u e o, and they are pronounced sort of like, ah, ee, ooh, eh, oh. Or like the vowels in talk, tea, too, pet, no. This is true even when two vowels are next to each other, so "ai" is "ah ee", which sounds like the English word "eye".
For any pedants who see this, this is an oversimplification, but just knowing this and pronouncing the consonants like in English will get you as close as you need to be for reading out a Japanese word while talking in English about what it means.

I don't know much about translating unknown scripts, but I imagine it's easy to come up with something that fits but is totally wrong. I'm also sceptical that it's possible to work out the translation with so little text available. This stuff should be treated as speculative until it's reviewed by someone else who knows about cryptography and translation.

    • @Magic.Pixie.Dreamgirl
      @Magic.Pixie.Dreamgirl 2 года назад +12

I myself treat it as speculative in spite of my own efforts and research hours. With English, it’s very easy to luck into things. The Z13 cipher has thousands of possible solutions. With Japanese it is harder but not impossible.

@@Magic.Pixie.Dreamgirl Do you have the Japanese text with Kanji? I'm trying to make sense of your translations, e.g. how does あいとる mean "meeting of lovers"?
Another idea to explain the lack of characters and frequent repetition: It could be a Hiragana-based abjad like the one sometimes used in Japanese internet slang, e.g. kwsk = KuWaSiKu = 詳しくor BBA = BaBaA = ばばぁ. You basically take the first letter of every romanized Hiragana symbol (one row, one symbol except for the あ-row). This type of abjad wouldn't have significantly fewer letters than an alphabet but probably a lot more repetition in Japanese.

Hey! so odds are I’m just overthinking stuff but the upside down triangle on the mystery person in the new trailer might be something to look into. Idk for sure but I think a few years ago I heard a theory video mention the upside down triangle cutout in the middle of the triforce that I might try to find to see for sure.
update! I rewatched the video and it’s by Nintendo black crisis. It’s not that the tetraforce physically exists, but instead that it takes the whole triforce to create the shape, giving it a special symbolism! NBC explains it in more depth but next time I get hold of botw I’m gonna start the game over and figure out in which great plateau shrine the monk is making an upside down triangle to see if it has any symbolism regarding the matter!

I have a (not so) small theory that I basically stole from a german channel ("Roxtendo"), but it's just too good to not share since it doesn't have english subtitles even a year after the upload.
So... What if everything happening in the Zelda Universe is trapped in a loop? Not literally going back in time, but events being predestined to happen again and BotW is the Legend told in Skyward sword happening again. Like, the calamity of "Demise" (now old Ganondorf) rising from the ground, forcing Hylia (In BotW it's the suspiciously powerful Zelda) to lift the Ground and safe Hyrule's citizens. In SS' Legend, the evil monsters, qoute "burn woods" (to wipe out powerful Deku Tree), explaining why he isn't seen in any of TotK's trailers. More possible evidence could be found in OoT; Why does Link dream of Ganondorf chasing Zelda+Impa? Fate? Or maybe hidden memories from a previous loop? How can Windmill Dude know the song of storms? He remembers young Link from a previous loop. There are far more examples of possible proof for this, but too much to put in a YT comment. If you understand german, here's the original theory: ruclips.net/video/50s1AFOnC5M/видео.html
