Naive of me, but i thought they had just done an open casting call and the best voices/dancers, etc won the parts which i thought was brilliant. That's how is should be. I didn't realize it was deliberately cast that way. Everything in that show has so much meaning!
    Bravo!

I can remember, 10 years later, losing the role to a woman who had long, straight black hair. At least the revival saw the same director cast me as Mary. Was it because now I had hair extensions?

Check "Wikipedia's "natural born citizen clause" page. It includes this under "history":
      Constitutional ConventionEdit
The Constitution does not explain the meaning of "natural born".[34] On June 18, 1787, Alexander Hamilton submitted to the Convention a sketch of a plan of government.[35] The sketch provided for an executive "Governour" but had no eligibility requirements.[36] At the close of the Convention, Hamilton conveyed a paper to James Madison which he said delineated the Constitution that he wished had been proposed by the Convention; he had stated its principles during the deliberations. Max Farrand wrote that it "was not submitted to the Convention and has no further value than attaches to the personal opinions of Hamilton."[37] Article IX, section 1 of Hamilton's draft constitution provided: "No person shall be eligible to the office of President of the United States unless he be now a Citizen of one of the States, or hereafter be born a Citizen of the United States."[38]

Hamilton could have been president, contrary to what one of the people in the doc said. The Constitution states: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President. The key word being "at the time of the adoption of this constitution". Hamilton was an American citizen at the time of the ratification of the constitution.

So many people talk about the veracity of Hamilton's views in slavery. Did he support it? Was he against it? But we need to understand that this is a theatrical piece and may have it's correct vs incorrect facts. It's like believing that Abraham Lincoln was really a vampire slayer! It's the little twists in the plot! :)

When they talk about a musical to do with America's history in this way and they say it's gonna be only black and brown people... I say HELL YAH.... because I mean there weren't enough who got to participate in it in the past. (America would be nothing with out them... so u know what I mean. I'm referring to the government part of the making of america) There was ... what's his name. Like one (haha I'm sorry... Douglas? Shit. I can't remember) but he'll yah it should be that way. I think it's super important that they made it that way.
Idk man... cus when I hear or read the story of Hamilton it always makes my eyes well up a bit because it's such an important story in America's history. And the fact this was done the way it was makes my eyes go from welling up to having to wipe my eyes and have the sniffles. It's such a beautiful idea that they brought to the world in this way. This is to me important work.

He was definitely a scum for that affair, but after his death, all of Eliza’s communication to her family and friends were about how considerate husband he was otherwise. So much so that on his deathbed, Eliza dragged a friend of Hamilton’s in the room and asked him to look after her children so she could die with her husband. She later on found peace and said since she has had such happy years with her husband, it was only fair that she now suffers without him. Given that she chose to remain unmarried and just salvage his legacy shows that he did at least some things right as a husband.
Don’t get me wrong. He was an absolute piece of shit for that affair, but given the kind of woman Eliza was, he definitely struck gold and was as happy with his wife as a man could be. Sad that he cheated on her and she still had enough love in her heart to spend an eternity waiting to die so she could be with her husband again!

This cultural appropriation. Why is this ok if it's doing to whites? Alexander hamilton was not black or Latino. Iam of mixed race being Caucasian and Asian. But I find it offensive to race swap historical figures like this. It wasn't right for John Wayne to play ghengis khan, or whites to play native Americans in westerns. the woke cancel culture get upset if white actors do black face in comedies . But stufflike this is praised! The double standard of woke culture makes no sense. If they want to do something for diversity and people of color do a play that centers around events from thier culture . There is plenty of examples of contributions from every race and culture in this country. It in my opinion is just inappropriate to simply race swap people of color in historical roles that are meant to be white. In the the end it helps no one.

"Who tells your story. " There were more people of color influencing revolutionary times than you may think, they just aren't as documented or portrayed in our history lessons. Example one: although Hamilton's father was Scottish, his mother was native to the Caribbean.
Example 2: John Lawrens's first black battalion was a very real thing. 200,000 black people were living in the colonies not enslaved but as free people during the revolution. Ironically, the founding of our "free" nation started to make it harder to grant freedom to enslaved people, but it was more common in colonial days. The paintings you see are an incomplete snapshot of that world.
Example 3: long before the British colonized America, the Spanish were here; they just didn't take over the land in such an organized and dominant way.

Fully agree. Hey obama basically half white, let's have a white play him in a movie. HAHA, we all know how that would go down. And that would MORE historically accurate than this trash is throughout the play, with more than just Hamilton.
