I carry a ferro rod with me at all times and i teach anyone that seems interested how to use it. In my opinion this is a skill that everyone should have

I am loving using ferrocerium rods, adding them both 91mm and 58mm Swiss Army Knives. They are remarkable effective. Getting the angle correct against the striking surface takes practice. Thank you for this fab education on ferrocerium and your clarity in teaching the different techniques. I will use this video as a reference.

That’s a great technique to lay the blade on the tender and pull the rod towards you to let the sparks shower the tender!

Like what you said, this is an "Emergency Fire Starter", yes you could and probably would just use a lighter if you had one and conditions permit. And I also like practice, practice, practice. The right equipment is not the right equipment if you freeze to death trying to learn how to use it! 🔥🔥🔥

thank you for this video . I have been practicing and have learned that not all work as well as others. the ones with magnesium blocks attached don't seem to work as well. i appreciate you saying Practice! that is the key. It is a false security just to carry one with you. practice in the COLD Damp weather where it is needed the most. Why should i worry about fixing the small ridges or scrape marks on my ferro rod? it still work's just as well? Truely curious? 🔥
