Great example of use of external mic for a car! I got a mic as part of a package and was trying to figure out where I wanted to put it for videos to kill wind noise. This makes perfect sense
I'll have to order these for my GoPro camera as soon as possible as well. Can you put some links about where you ordered these in the video if possible.
The reason this works so well is not only because you use an external mic, it's mostly about the placement on the car. I get the same results using a GoPro with no external mic, placed on my rear bumper facing backwards. Why? Because of aerodynamics, almost no wind is hitting it at all.
Yes that does work, but if u want the camera seeing where you are going, then an external mic is necessary to eliminate wind noise while the camera is in the front of the car.
Very nice sound. I will definitely be doing this to my hero3, it will be great for putting a mic into small engine's airboxes where the camera wont fit!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I set up mine it's not working only the internal mic is working is there something I'm missing? Do I have to go into setup menu and change something?
That micro sd slot. Is it the same one used to charge your gopro? If so i may try this with my pivothead glasses. The built in recorder picks up too much static!
The micro SD slot is for the memory card. Are you referring to the micro USB slot? Than yes, the same plug you use to charge your GoPro is where you plug in the microphone adapter.
Great video and question. I bought an off brand mic adapter and when I’m using it I’m actually getting more wind noise than when I’m just using the GoPro Hero 3 itself. Is this due to the fact that the mic is not actually connecting and I’m in turn just getting more wind noise thru the opening on the skeleton case. Was looking to avoid buying the official GoPro adapter but if this is the case then so be it. Thanks
Good ol Patterson Ave lol. Hey man I have and external mic for my gopro and I keep getting a buzz or a hummm until it picks up decent noise. Any ideas?
Check out the soft portion of the mic and make sure it's attached very well. if it's loose or anything you will have an odd sound. Make sure all the connections are solid too.
I recent bought a mic for my GoPro that directly has the USB mini connection but any time I try using it. I get no audio sound. Any suggestions on why this is happening?
I don't think the sound was THAT good, but then again i'm used to a sweet 350 V8 not a inline 4 banger. Still i would assume the problem with the sound as i see it is because of a cheap mic and for sure low quality
@@frankkjllefjord446 gotcha. This video wasn’t about how my car sounded. It was showing how an external mic can be hooked up to hear the exhaust vs wind noise from the camera location.
do u need the gopro adapter, cause i got a 3rd party adapter, and it doesnt seem to be working, i assume the gopro already knows what to do with it and it doesnt need software right?
Aren't there better microphones than the 7 dollar one lol , you have the money obviously ...good job but you chose a crappy 7 dollar mic after all the trouble to get better sound. Google up some recommendations there are lots of car guys talking about this on car forums
The video shows how the GoPro audio sounds with wind interference vs having the mic above the exhaust to hear the exhaust. I want the GoPro to capture the video of the side of the car facing forward. But I want it to hear the exhaust.
Because wind noise is not fun to hear for a driving video. Being able to hear the engine or exhaust gives a driving video much better overall quality. If you watched the video past 2 minutes you would have the heard the difference. Here is another video showing the difference. GoPro Hero 3 External Microphone Test
Ok! I am on the market for a mic that can place on the ground that can help my GoPro to register the sound of the ball and the club head interacting for good feedback when I am practicing my golf shots on the driving range...
MrTanker10a Get the same ones that I bought. Pause the video when I show the packaging for the mic and extension cable, and just look them up on Amazon.

I use painters masking tape for the mic. Leaves no residue

Always wanted an external.microphone for my go pro.. good informative video. Big thank you from the glens of bonnie Scotland..

honda4ridered I use two cameras :)
Or two takes
I used the exact same mic, only to come back and find that it didnt pick up any audio at all, do i have to put it on a special setting?
I put mine on the outside rear view. Thanks for the info
No problem 👍 What kind of angle do you get with that? Just curious!
That was helpful. I was trying to come up with a way to hear the exhaust and you gave me the answer. THANKS!
Thx dude i want to try this out because the wind is really annoying
wich gopro edition is it?
Very nice sound. I will definitely be doing this to my hero3, it will be great for putting a mic into small engine's airboxes where the camera wont fit!
We have the new IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, small size, perfect for GoPro, can we send you one to you to play with?
Very useful video. Can you just make a video how to connect it to exactly any settings of the go pro
It doesn’t matter what setting the GoPro is in!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I set up mine it's not working only the internal mic is working is there something I'm missing? Do I have to go into setup menu and change something?
Incognegro Genesis Coupe!
this doesn't work for some people. is there anything to do with go pro software upgrading?
Sorry for the late response, but what issues were you having? This setup should work with the Hero 3,4 and a few more.
nice video)
can you tell which version of software you use on your gopro?
I don't know which version it is, but is the most up to date one.
thnx, I understand
Excellent! Thanks for the vid.
While I'm not planning on using the mic to chat while i race cars lol but the info was very helpful thank you so much
Yeah this is a great setup! We still use these mics in some videos!

Yeah. That is what I meant. Thanks I may give it a try. If I buy the stuff and it doesn't work I'll send it to you for extras lol.
KrazyDanProd Haha sounds good. If you order the same stuff I got, it should work fine.

This is exactly my problem. Gonna go do some shopping thanks to you.
Cool! Glad to help.
This is what i looking for thanks budy
Glad you like it!
thanks mate, good video, helps a lot
Your welcome!
Does this method supports in eken h9r ?
I'm not sure what the eken h9r is. But if that supports external mics. This might work
Does your microphone record audio to both channel or you copy the channel when you were editing the video?
+chun wei Hsu It records the audio right into the video. The exact same as without the external mic
+Honda4RideRed Thanks
+chun wei Hsu my mic records only left :/ i have to change it using software then. sucks

What was the other camera you were using to film the GoPro?
My phone. Droid RAZR M
do you have to buy different case for the gopro so you can hook up the converter with the mic?
Yes, the skeleton housing
you can buy a cheap audio recorder off ebay and sync the sound after, its a lot easier than running a chord all through the car
honestly I find running the cable a lot easier than trying to sync the sound to match perfectly. Its all about preference.
honda4ridered ya depending on the situation, i agree definitely sometimes easier to run the cable
Can I plug in my iPhone headphone (with mic) and use it as well as a mic?
Rider Mark You should be able to, you just need the adapter.
Okay, I'm going to try it! Thanks
Rider Mark Did it work ?
so this is the gopro hero 3 correct? not the hero 3 +
correct. This will work on the 3+ and the 4 too.
Awesome Thanks man!
I recent bought a mic for my GoPro that directly has the USB mini connection but any time I try using it. I get no audio sound. Any suggestions on why this is happening?
I think you have to use the GoPro adapter. Or any adapter that is mini usb to 3.5mm.
I don't think the sound was THAT good, but then again i'm used to a sweet 350 V8 not a inline 4 banger. Still i would assume the problem with the sound as i see it is because of a cheap mic and for sure low quality
A 350z?? We’ve used the mic on several cars since this video and it’s the best way to get the audio! Sounds great!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Nope, a 350 V8 engine :D

k thanx
hey brother I got a question I got both of the adapters as needed but my microphone isn't working I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong any suggestion's?
it should be a plug in play, make sure everything is connected all the way or you may have a faulty microphone.
is there any way I might be able to test the microphone?
+Edward Pacheco try plugging them into your phone. Although, these mics did not work in my phone, but they work fine in my GoPro.
Nice one
Thanks! These still work well on our current cameras too!
would this work on the GoPro Hero?
+Wyatt Guthrie We use to have an HD hero and that should have a 3.5 mm jack on the side that a mic can hook up too.
ok thanks!
Sir, is the go pro hero 3 adaptor compatible with the hero 4 as well. ??
+vinil fernandes Yes. We actually just sold our Hero 3 and got Hero 4s. It works the exact same!
+Honda4RideRed Thank you sir. 😊
Definitely sounds like a $7 mic 😬 certainly a proof of concept though.
It was a great mic for the purposes that we used it for!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed maybe it was my phone speaker 🤷♂️😏

This works really good and gives it a great sound, there is no need to spend a lot of money when this inexpensive one does the job.
why not put go pro on back ???? why not put mic were go pro was... this test is pointless... you didn't compare them properly.
