[DST Beta] Wigfrid's Shield vs Celestial Champion

- A showcase of how effective Wigfrid's new shield can be against the Celestial Champion. I tried to focus on minimal gear, though I did have to take countermeasures to enlightenment in phase 3.
Despite not having the highest DPS, we did manage to defeat celestial champion in just over a day, with ~5.5 battle ronds used. That's just 6 beefalo in total fight cost!
I'm a wig one trick main. I only play her and I didn't even knew her opera sign music matched up with the Celestial Champion's music wtf.
This is 10/10 detail from klei
It matches with others boss themes too

Those spin attacks from phase 2 are 700 damage total and the battle rond just says no
Hell, how it even BLOCK the entire power of the moon with just a piece of wooden shield is baffling already

I wish you could duel wield the Elding Spear and battle rond. It’d make for an interesting combat design. Blocking and Dashing both at your disposal would be awesome.
this might actually be useful in getting like a faster CC fight in coop since getting hit reduces the time he does the spin and the only attack in phase 1 though with enough people you'd probably just have to tank only one hit and easily win from there so maybe not that useful afterall
Started a world with wigfrid and just took down dfly with only sheilds on like day 30 (I had to get the skill points to unlock the sheild). No speed boost no armor no heals. Just a piggyback full of sheilds and alot of shaved beefs.
So bad.
That's awesome haha. I just wish the shield had a little more durability so you didn't have to make so many, those poor beefalo look so cold!

If you want mininal gear just use nightmare amulets instead of the bone helm, those are easy enough to get by comparison. I was doing it without either and god those gestalts are some real motherfuckers lol

I think he was supposed to die, but left a 1-hp lock on. Happens, but he should have taken three hits of 93.75 damage each time, which would have been enough to kill him. If he'd just been using the nightmare amulet the whole time though, he wouldn't have been asleep to tank all those hits, and therefore the gameplay would be perfectly legitimate.
Edit: oh ok, so actually just a tricky element, but completely legit. Battle Rönd is inactive unless the player is awake, so first two hits use Wigfrid's base character damage res, while the last hit applies the Battle Rönd as well. Whacky
@@AeyakS I had to look back at this one because I didn't quite understand what happened. On the third hit, you can see that Wigfrid is awake and her battle rond's 85% armor is in effect. It takes 10% durability damage, which suggests that it was blocking against a 50 damage attack, not celestial champion's roll. With that, I only take 5.625 damage, or 193 in total.
i hope Klei adds more big bads or a hardcore mode because the power creep is real

Youre mistaking more good abilities for power creep cuz the power creep ends with maxwell already lmao
And of course there will be more bosses they havent said anything about stopping
This might be a hot take but im not fan of the shield feels like there’s far too many pros and not enough cons to it like why doesn’t it exactly take damage when you do? or why does it block all damage no matter what? it just feels overpowered especially when you ATTACK with it
You have no idea how fast it breaks then. I have a better point than that though. The shield is not overpowered because there is always a better solution, and it's to not risk getting hit at all by dodging. It's also not better than a hambat, the elding spear and its charged variant, or a dark sword.
Plus, you could choose Wolfgang and be twice as efficient rather than play Wigfrid with this sub-optimal strategy. The thing you'll have to accept about these new perks is that nothing is guaranteed to be exceptionally powerful or perfectly balanced, but so long as it opens up new variety and possibilities for players, that's okay.
Honestly, if it's fun and satisfying, then that's fine. It can't be more overpowered than Wanda or Wolfgang so who gives?
They used a whole inventory of shields
Woody can just plant a few trees and turn them into tree guards then let them handle cc
Other characters need just a weapon and a speed bonus

When using shield I am loosing dps. Further more it breaks so fast. Even when paired with some armour.
It just gives a different play style. A a bit of confidence that any miss kite atks won't ruin my hard made progress on a public server. And her all skills are not good like woody. Her new songs cost way too much while providing mediocre shadow or lunar buff. Charged spear is op but still standing on its high cost and probability to break. While battle spear and battle helm is unnecessary, like who will use the battle spear when you can have hambat. Battle helm might be okay but still it was unnecessary
You are very wrong bout this.
Speaking with 5.6k hours and played all throughout the beta, shield is underpowered, with niche uses (albeit decent niche uses).
Big ass con is the inventory it takes for even 1 boss, and if its minion spam (bq/spider infested area) or ck, you cant use it nearly as effectively, and the dmg buff from the 2nd shield skill isnt even enough to buff it to the point of doing 100 dmg per hit, and dps wise it still sucks compared to even a hambat/dsword or her new spear (i usually speedrun to storm and cc for crown as wig so its even less good dps wise).
Pros are certainly there and i use it in tandom with the spear for cc, or use it on seasonal bosses bc theyre not nearly as high in hp.
Either way shield is pretty mediocre cuz it gets beaten out by a hambat and helm spam, and even more so if you anim cancel/dodge cuz the cost of 4 gold is too much for how little value you get out of it compared to a hambat (again, there are times when i do use it bc it does speed up bosses, but it doesnt beat out many other options)

I don't know, I played with a friend with small lag and this shield is unplayable if you miss
It's not really that overpowered. It can be novel, but it really isn't great if you take any hits in your fight because then it breaks way earlier. It also doesn't do prime damage so I'd say it's more of an economic solution for Dragonfly and the Klaus fight, and that's about it maybe.
Why not using a better weapon for the damage and the shield only for block?
I wanted to showcase how effective the battle rond by itself is. This fight would have been easier with any other armor (Which would have prevented me from taking so much damage when I got slept), or Celestial Champion's crown. If you're swapping weapons you just have to be mindful of the ~2 seconds it takes for the shield skill to go off cooldown.
How do I active the shield block?
Right click when you have the shield equipped, then left click in the direction you're blocking.
Impressed that a single shield can just straight up block everything, including a slam of Moon Stone, Slash of Moon Shard, Enlightenment shards, and even Lunar Beams. (Why can’t the Shield Of Terror do the Same?)
