- In tribute to her 80th birthday, I wanted to share this with the world. I am grateful for the times that Patti Labelle has poured into my very soul. I tried to bring her flowers once @ 106 + Park and since I wasn't EP on the show, I ran down and took the flowers and went back upstairs because she was on set. She had to them FIND ME and BRING ME TO HER! She has recognized me on the street and screamed out and pulled me into her arms with such joy and love. THIS INTERVIEW HAS SO MUCH INTIMACY AND INSIGHT, I had to share it. I also must speak my sister's name--Bettie Louise Taylor--because she got me into Labelle (before there was any Natalie Cole music to consume my soul) and some of their songs--YOU TURN ME ON and GOING DOWN TO YOUR RIVER--kept me in trouble. I sang them all the time and I HAD NO IDEA what they were SAYING! But my Momma did!!! LOL. Patti Labelle is a treasure to the world and IT'S A JOY TO HAVE YOUR LOVE! Queen Mother Labelle, THANK YOU FOR A LIFETIME OF MUSIC AND MEMORIES AND JUMPING FOR JOY!

I agree but just about all my friends and my family members liked Celine’s version better. I like both versions but I like Patti’s better.

That song got me the worst whooping. I sang it and YOU TURN ME ON at the top of my lungs, just thinking the words were literal--GOING DOWN TO YOUR RIVER MAKES ME SHIVER AND THE CHILL OF THE WATER MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD and I COME LIKE THE POURING RAIN, EACH TIME YOU CALL MY NAME! I didn't know anything about lyrics and metaphors and wordplay and because I was so smart, my mother SWORE THAT I KNEW, at 11 LOL
It would be nice if interviewers asked her more about budd and their working process/relationship. Being that he produced like 80% of her albums.

They love to stir up rivalry. They healed that FOREVER AGO. People had the visuals of PATTI + DIANA at Motown reunion and wanted to see a battle and those QUEENS were long past that.
Diana ask Patti to sing , and gave her the mike, Diana Ross knows what Patti LaBelle, can do let's be real she wasn't worried about that, If it a Motown production Diana wants it to be the best it can be.
