Not ACW but ww2, lots of the guys in our unit do just this and its a fantastic way to store farb or otherwise junky things at events. Most common things you can find in our ammo boxes are phone chargers, kerosene, ammo, canned food, shoe care kits, and modern cold weather gear for the cold winter months.
My unit, in an effort to minimize gear that we haul out to an event (was a full 20ft x 8-9ft U-haul now a a single 12ft trailor with 3ft walls). Purchased 2 Sibly Tents, 1 for the men and 1 for our units loaner gear, which also houses most of our farb. a few of themen are finding and using various wood boxes to hide any extra gear they have. Me personally i use a period looking luggage chest, i say it belongs to an officer from a different company who has yet to come and claim it xD
10:10 Don´t put anything in your canteen except water. Your canteen is a very important tool in first aid! Be it for cooling burns, be it if somebody got something in their eyes and you need to wash it out, the last thing you´d want is more "dirt" in the wounds. Our unit commander made that very clear. As refreshing as a good sip of lemon water may be, it won´t do any good in an emergency situation. And considering you´re around some pretty dangerous stuff at a reeenactment, like open fire and blackpowder, you should stick to this.
Well, you notice how we conveniently didn't inspect the captain's or the 1st Sgt's trunks? Regulations say 1 to 2 gills of whiskey for a fatigue duty ration.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Elijah Angelo i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
wonderful video, I can use it to help my gunsmith impression with my unit, I'm the go to guy for repairs and new parts and equipment and having a way to hide everything is definitely a step up in my impression.
We're so glad you liked it. Thanks so much for watching. If you visit our website, we have photos of our company cleaning kit which holds enough supplies for the company and three complete kits in wooden trays. Might be good for organizing gunsmithing gear, too. Your impression sounds great.
Company D 2nd USSS I will certainly check your website out for those. I definitely have fun with my impression, especially demonstrating to the public about repairs and the basics of muskets and rifles of the time, as well as help my unit out if something breaks or needs repaired.
Company D 2nd USSS I'd also be interested in seeing a video on how to make a period correct musket box or case for the target rifles you carry or to for a Sharps or 2 in for storage and display purposes
I don't have any target rifle cases to make just now but I'll be doing some shop videos soon and I'll be sure to do a walk through on how I make our target rifle cases. Thanks for the suggestions!
on a separate note, i like how it appears that most of you're men seem to be self sufficient gear and food wise. would make my job a lot easier as the units supply and mess steward
I don't blame anyone for bringing modern stuff to a reenactment especially if it's multiple days. I got my laptop so I can play War of Rights and Grand Tactician Civil War so I can reenact while I'm reenacting lol
Yep I'm a hard core and hate tents if anything we will make a slum group shelter only if it's going to rain as a lasting rain event or is very cold and sleep as a group and spoon its period correct very unfortunately I'm a diabetic and get to take 5 shots a day and I hate being a farb and hate the fact I have to carry my medication and it should be kept cool so the first thing I do is dig a hole and hide it in there and cover it with leaves it helps keeping cool and cover it with extra fire wood and the type of fire of wood that was collected from the woods I have to watch how I eat being I will only eat period correct food so I got my dietician to help me out with still being able to still remain correct it probably seems a bit crazy but that is how I insist to do the hobby I don't expect every one to think how I do and can serenely understand theose who don't and I won't pass criticism to mainstream folks
I don't recall off the top of my head but we have the Sharps stencil for download at our website at www2ndUSSS.com or you can google AJ Hammler Civil War Woodworking and check out his .58 cal stencil. I matched our font size to his.
Thank you for your keen eye! I will be sure to thoroughly reprimand myself. For those who didn't catch it, my top button is unbuttoned. Thanks for watching.

This is really great. I also like the idea of the checkerboard. Very informative.

Campaigners: The modern conveniences! It burns us!

Sgt. I was certain that your "surprise box inspection" would reveal self subscribed "medical spirits" which is exceedingly common in these parts.

My take away from this video is that history is boxes.

@@carltonferrell4062 ide like to see you do a video of your gunsmith.
Does anyone else's unit just have ridiculous amounts of beef jerky squirreled away all over the place? Just wondering.
So much better than most camp displays. Well kept and discrete makes for a nice impression in any facet of life.
