How to start crf 250r when it's cold every time

- This video explains how to start your crf 250r or any crf when it's extremely cold. As you can see there's snow on the ground and the bike is cold... This has worked for me every time since I found out about it last week. Crf's have a hard time starting in the cold and this has been a fix for me.
I’m out here in a field, just spent 10 mins trying to kick my bike over to start it (bought it recently). Got discouraged, came over here, tried it and boom it work. Ur a life saver man.

Eight years later and your advice still works just bought my bike a 2008 cry 250r. I’ve been having a hard time starting it takes me like 20 hard kicks I used your method. It started on the third kick it never does that. Thank you so much.

Mario Guzman Mario. It means “blip” the throttle. I pull mine all the way open. You can just go half throttle if you want. Take care!

Been struggling with 04 crf250r after a sending it out to be bored and stroked out. Impossible to cold start without putting a heater next to it. Tried this after searching the net for a while and it turned over on the first kick in a 35 degree F garage. Thanks bunches for posting this.

my 04 wont start either checked timing, valve clearance and spark, compression reds 20 to 30 psi. what is wrong?
Zech B yes they’re reliable. All bikes are with proper maintenance. Buy it!
I’ve got an 04 also and after blowing a base gasket last year am replacing that along with shims I can only seem to bump start mine, was able to start first kick once after I stalled it cuz it doesn’t idle either. Also was leaking oil out of the crankcase breather tube assuming maybe I put to much oil in. Any info would be great

Bruuuhh! This comment is for real. It worked with my 2006 250r. It started right up, and i didnt even put the boots on. Anyway, i am not sure if this works for everyone. It worked for me, and i hope it works for everyone else.

Worked! Even for warm. I keep my bike in a garage tho. So about 70 degrees. What I did was 3 wide open turns after turning on my gas no choke. Roll over engine 5 times. Find TDC. Go 1 “click” after TDC and kick with your body. STRTS FORST CLICK THABK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have a 2006 crf250r btw

this should be in the manual. i thought i had a good starting regimen and this is even better. simple and dead reliable
I know this is old but just in case. Good rule of thumb on any valve like that. If the handle is inline with the fuel flow, its on. If the handle is in a direction that looks like its crossing the fuel flow then its off.

Yep, tried everything. Plug, coil, jets, 97 octane still nothing. Tried this first kick start. Bike saver almost broke it for spares

Do you turn your gas off and let the engine run out before shutting down for a while of no use? If so, does this same method work or do you need to prime somehow first

On the 450, you must cut off the head of a rooster and rub it on the silencer, then blip it twice then crack it open, then kick like a MF'er!

what position should the fuel valve be in when starting? North and south or east and west? There’s no indication on this bike I purchased. Any help is appreciated.

Dan C hey man! No, don’t give it anymore gas.. just kick it hard and do not use the hot start handle when cold starting your bike.. ever. Refer to my other video for info on the hot start handle!

usually there isnt enough gas in the cyllender to get it going, bliping the throttle works well, sometimes i hold it fully open for 3-4 secconds. (This is just my theory about the cylender thing i truely have no idea if thats true or not)
I have hard time kicking mine to I jump it and then it kicks warm . Maybe I'll try this mines a 04
i just bought a 08 crf 250 and it wouldnt start i checked the valve clearences and they were way off so i reshimmend them and just tried this and it still wont kick start any ideas? if you coast start it itll fire right up and run fine

pighunter 420 maybe spark plug, or valve adjustment/shim would be my guess. Lastly, could be the jetting.

Anthony Florez if this didn’t work, seem as it has for 99% of people. I would say yes the motor needs serious attention.

When you flip the throttle do you turn it over all the way or just a little
Darren Gage just blip it 2-3 times. About 1/4 turn or 1/2. Is what I do. Some others I know do a full turn though. If you do a full turn only do 2 turns not 3.

Goldeneye 007 no leave that normal. The hot start is specifically designed to be used when the bike is “hot” and is killed or stalled. Refer to my other video for the hot start handle.

Sentry Shock *blip as in 1/4-1/2 turns. A couple times which would turn into 1-2 full turns. I usually do like 85% throttle twice then kick it good.

hey man i have to try this later i've been trying to fix my honda crf250r but i have a problem starting it it takes very long and also when im kicking it lit eakes a little fuel i tried opening the carburator and cleaning it and nothing looked like being the problem its also sometimes hard to start it after its gotten warm do you maybe know what the problem could be? :)
Ivan Darri hey dude. I would get a valve shim definitely. Also look into why the bike is leaking fuel, sounds to me like it’s getting to much fuel since you say it’s hard to start warm as well. Best of luck! Ride on

Da_ Beast2469 you will see an aluminum quarter turned piece, labeled on off I believe. Turn it to on, that’s your fuel, next to that “to right” is black plastic piece you can pull. There’s your choke. Pull that.
