    I miss my great grandma already. She is from umuahia. My mom's aunt always cook it anytime she comes around n she is currently in my parents house but marriage done carry me where I no no

    ELLA!!! I AM UR SISTER OOOOOOO...BORN IN OBIOMA NGWA OFABIA STATE I CAN RELATE TO THIS SOUP AND AKPU. MY GRANDMOM MAKES IT EACH TIME WE VISIT HOME IN D 80'S AND 90'S.SHE DIED OVER 26YRS AGO AT 149YRS AND I REALLY MISSED HER....MY MOM MAKES IT TOO BUT IN MORE ADVANCED WAY BUT MISSED GRANDMA'S OWN MORE.     1.Achara/Elephant grass
    2.Egusi
    3.Okazi leaf/Afang leaf
    4.Stock fish
    5.yellow pepper and 1 scotch bonnet
    6.boulloin cube
    7.uzu/usu
    8.Achi(thickener)
    9.smoked fish
    10.beef

    The okazi leave you added last you didn't blend it abi will it still be soft?

      For this soup, you dint need to blend the okazi... Jut put the strands like that, it will get soft in the soup but you need to be seeing it in the soup

    The soup is not exclusive to Umuahia and Ngwa because they are not the only people in Abia that it's their delicacy.

    Is the nzu necessary and for the thickener, can cocoyam be used instead of achi

      Yes.. the usu acts as a binder to hold the Egusi together if not the Egusi balls won't be strong. For the thickner, achi or ofor is fine but achi is preferable because ofor thickens too much unless you use very little quantity.. Ede will give it a different taste and texture

      Thank you for watching. Sorry I forgot to add in the video that it can be added towards the end if you want it crunchy.. adding it earlier allows the whole taste of the achara to be released
