Much better breakdown of techniques then I ever got when I was part of a school. I specifically like the emphasis on the fundamentals over flashy. Thank you.
I love that you posted another chain whip session and plan to do more with the shoots and attacks. I have been looking up other videos and looking at rope dart elbow shoots and such just to get an idea of what to incorporate into my form. I have watched your earlier tutorials many times over and am comfortable with all but the mad dog. I am do excited for more. THANK YOU JAKE!
jake you amaze me every time. I love watching you. You are so good at these martial art defensive weapons. I just finished a 3 piece Bo Staff. Made from my Hickory Trees. I was making walking staffs but now I have made Nunchucks, Bo Staffs, and 3 piece Bo staff. All have stainless steel swivels and hardware too. My next project is a set of Tonfas. Hickory is a tough wood and will out perform pine, oak and cedar ! Thanks again for your expertise and knowledge !
Jake....BRILLIANT IDEA!! I have studied Kung Fu and weapons for over 40 years. And if we used padded weapons in our kwoon, we would be laughed at! Our kwoon is "old school." I saw your idea for using a stick and cord with a tennis ball. THAT IS A BRILLIANT IDEA! I am criticizing your videos at times, BUT if you have a good idea...I will support you in it! 💀 ( you really should have you students clean and polish your weapons, RUST is not good for the weapons, and it will teach the students to respect the weapons.
ill say...imagine I couldn't wait to learn the chain art that I actually practised in a small room with furniture and obstacles in the way,,, since no park available in winter (Canada)...anyways...on the 3rd week of trying to understand *Faith* (the name of my chain whip) one hesitation and BOOM! a fk up!, attempting the "Neck Chain" technique as I call it...the chain literally wrapped itself around my neck....I just stayed still and Faith undid herself. But this was a lesson ,,perhaps a test after mocking her full potential.
Amazing instructional ...and for free ! The power of a Tiger and the heart of a Dove ! Took me years and cost me a small fortune to learn and this amazing guy gives his knowledge away for free
Awesome! But @ 3:59 when you say beginners should get shin pads, I thought you said sh!t pads (like for training puppies) because a beginner would be scared sh!tless using this thing! Lolol! Srry, don't mean to drag down the conversation, just an honest mis-hear which cracked me up, both because it made sense - but also because it was just SO unexpected coming from you. Anyway, love your content, and your amazing positive attitude. People like you make RUclips a better place. The world a better place. Thanks for what you do Jake!
i see this guy do a lot of chai whip videos. but without fail he never shows strikes, kicks, or anything more advanced than a couple of spins and a mad man.
That was awesome , great video on the chain whip , I didn't know the chain whip was so cool , it looks like you get a good work out while practicing too , and I looks fun once you master it , thanks for introducing the Kung fu chain whip to me
I just got a starter one. From a place called Chinesekungfustore, it is in Dengfeng china, and they supply Shaolin monks and martial artists with martial art supplies. I figured you might have a video on it.
This is actually useful I might be using this thx Jake. I watched this so many times I just never pay attention I just look at comments while I listen. Oh and my chain whip hasn't arrived yet but I did make a practice rope/chain dart/whip and it's pretty useful
VeganAthlete The students, watch them and see if they are any good or if they all look like they are relaxed and lazy and the level of skills they are using is sloppy, then that's what you will end up looking like. If most of the students look really good and I mean all levels not just black belts then you know your in a good school. The head of the school can tell you till he or she is blue in the face about how great and large the school is but it will all show in the students.
Thanks!!great vid out of all the instructional videos I’ve seen or even out of the DVDs I’ve bought on the whip chain yours are the easiest to comprehend I saw several videos but it wasn’t until I started watching you did I start getting the techniques down Thanks your a great teacher
its a beautiful weapon, i have trained nunchucks, bow staff and tonfa and i love the grace and minimal effort. like all spinning weapons it leaves very large openings. it reminds me of a longer version of the chucks but I think it is worth adding to my repertoire simply for style :) like all spinning weapons the key to breaking the formation is to block it in close, the same way you use to stop it. but I doubt many people would have the timing. however its not a weapon i would carry with me in real life. I have enjoyed your video and the training steps are very similar to the ones I use so I give it a like :) To anyone else reading this message... the basic skills can't be taught. you either have it or you dont and that will be discovered in 30 secs. spinning weapons are not for everyone :)
Hey Jake, you are badass.I really enjoy your videos and I have been using them for training. You keep them very interesting. Please continue to make your videos for us,Mahalo!!
Chain Whip - Kung Fu's Greatest Weapon. I love practicing and demoing the Chain Whip or Nine Section Steel Whip! There are chain whips of all different sections but the 9 section chain whip is the most common! In this video we show you 6 Chain Whip combos. Check out the other Chain Whip or Chainwhip Videos at our ShaolinCenter RUclips channel! Enjoy! :) It's Weekend Weapons at the ShaolinCenter RUclips Channel: Click the Like button and SUBSCRIBE! Thanks! :)
GREAT VIDEO,and i believe there is no need to chase away the beginner. i followed through to end n i got it. the difficult part is sweeping the chain from under your thigh, and making over elbow maneuver without getting smacked.
Completely awesome, with that rate of fire it's very hard to get near you without getting hit, and at so little energy invested. Sometimes the best defense is a good attack.
Physalis. Yum. When I saw the Chain Whip for the first time, it reminded me of Poi Spinning. Meteor Poi are safe and can be a good tool for beginners. You learn pretty fast and you can do a lot of moves with the Poi. The Chain Whip is not allowed in Germany like most of the Kung Fu weapons. But this doesn't matter, you can practice with Poi, too. Thanks for the lots of good instructions. _/|\_
hi Jake love your videos learn a lot from them. I was wandering what size of chain whip do you use 50 inch or 58 inch and if they are heavy or medium weight ?
Would you be able to use some of these movements with Kusarigama as well? I'm loving your breakdowns of techniques, they're so easy to follow! Thank You for sharing them on RUclips.
if your just getting started I like a large glow stick on the end of a nylon rope.. Instead of a tennis ball... it's more like the dart and heavier ...plus it looks cool if you practice at dusk or night
I am a wild food hunter and by far the Physalis Ground Cherry is by far one of my favorites along with the Paw Paw. Don't eat anything but the berry though and only if the berry is orange-yellow! :)
Awesome video! im practicing in the begginer's way (like the other video :P ), at first i hit my head many times, it was hilarious XD... the song in the beginning reminds me the song on Shangain Noon "Cowboy baby" hahha!,.......it's really fun practice with the chain wip, i hope i can buy my own soon
thanks for your advice using tennisball and rope.. if i had used the chain :D i hit so often myself especially now were i want to get the mad dog ..hit so hard my chin^^ nice video! i was so long looking for a video like yours. i like the kung fu in your heart! keep it
The 9 section whip is very hard to use but I learn it makes a great choice of weapon cause it's so easy to hide and can break bones this why many battles in the passed rely on it the enemy does not see it coming
if i don't know martial arts can i still be trained to properly use the weapons used in them? if i could i would unfortunately i'm not the most fit person out there and well i'm quite short winded. however i have always had a fascination with weapons of this style and have always wanted to learn how to use them properly. i'm not trying to become some whip-weilding death machine, i would only need to learn the basics, a few strikes, and maybe a disarm or so. so would i be able to do it, or is martial arts training kinda required?
hey, first of all, great fan of the fighting stuff you do. the chain whip is a really cool weapon, but i was wondering... what do you do when you actually hit a target, or of it bloks the whip and the whip is out of inertia but the target ready to strike? could you do a video of consecutive whip hits on one of your targets, please? to demonstrate, cause is kind of a big weakness to the weapon
I've been using the rope dart for about 10 years now, but I've never tried the chain whip. A lot of the movements look very similar. I am very interested in learning to use the chain whip. Do you think that because of my rope dart experience, I could just pick one up and go at it? I'm sure there's a weight and torque difference that I'd have to hey used to.
Can you upload a Video showing some Form/kata with the whip please. I have got the spinning and stuff so far but i do not know any Form or way to connect all the stuff other than just doing some freestyle spin on spin chain. Would love to see some nice Form. Thanks and greetings to you :-)
Hello, I have been searching for a chain whip like my instructors. He said he got it in San Francisco many years ago and when I looked up the shop you mentioned Brendan Lai it was closed :( I have bought others but there is nothing like the one he has lent me. What would you suggest?
Lots of haters but I do appreciate your passion for the art and culture. Perhaps you've already done so, but you should consider working and living in China where you can gain a deeper understanding of the language people and culture. It will change your life. It changed mine.
Jake please show us that odd technique I mentioned earlier in this post. When monks do this it kind of looks like they say: " - Everything is going to be OK so celebrate New Year!!" :)
you owe me a ceiling fan.
dude that is why you're supposed to do it outside
it was a joke.
Claymore77 oh ok lol I couldn't really tell because it was over the internet and I couldn't see your facial expressions lol.
Lmao omg😂😂😂😂😂
Literally laughed out loud. Witty shit man!
the country music and the kung fu is such an aesthetic
Much better breakdown of techniques then I ever got when I was part of a school. I specifically like the emphasis on the fundamentals over flashy. Thank you.
Thank you and yes, fundamentals are key! Glad you liked the explanation and presentation! :)
Nice! The mad dog is tough to get but fun once you do!
Most of the moves I have already learned on the rope dart form.
It's really good to see someone explaining things properly.
Great vid, you're tempting me to go out and buy a chain whip!
Haha! Good!

You´re simply so effortless in you techniques. :)
Actually, failure is more scary than dying, dying is inevitable.
Grabaka Sennin only if you're not the one
But this youtuber gave his self strength by practicing others. Hes a master and mastered his self. Which makes him fearless just like Huo Yuanjia.

Agreed I'm not scared of death I'm only scared of one of two outcomes that could happen after death
"They'd think I was a psychopath. I am a psychopath."

Great lesson Jake. Thanks again.
You're a very good example of what an "authority" is on a subject. In the good sense I mean.
Thanks for sharing these videos. :)
This guys is literally Johnny Cage from Mortal Combat, I swear.
XionixZTV Only less of a smart ass. A lovable smart ass albeit, but still.

Its amazing. I learnt lot of things from you.
What is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to keep in mind when choosing a Martial Arts school to join? Tell me below!
VeganAthleteVeganAthlete Probably the seriousness of the school, but idk, what do you think?
VeganAthlete That the instructor isn't just a good fighter, but a good person.
VeganAthlete The students, watch them and see if they are any good or if they all look like they are relaxed and lazy and the level of skills they are using is sloppy, then that's what you will end up looking like. What does that mean let the class choose you lol

+Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace You forgot to mention to wear a cup as I know some people who have hit themselves there.
Will I t be okay If I start with a real steel chain tied to a lock?
awsome video brother

Exactly my thoughts, striking demonstration.
Yes, we did that! Check it out Here: ruclips.net/video/whuBjeGxQig/видео.html

Very nice buddy! Love your styles!! Crack up. What about rope dart?
Jake mace I like your videos. You are really good. Might I ask who your sifu was?
hi Jake love your videos learn a lot from them. I was wandering what size of chain whip do you use 50 inch or 58 inch and if they are heavy or medium weight ?
In your vid about guns you said the weapons are earned in stages what stage is this

Those gold-colored fruits are "Physalis".
They're delicious.

Thanks for the video.;)

hello, Where can I order such a chain???

Jake please show us that odd technique I mentioned earlier in this post. When monks do this it kind of looks like they say: " - Everything is going to be OK so celebrate New Year!!" :)
Do you train both hands?
Your the best
where do u buy the chain whip
Imagine if this was used by an airbender
Yessss! ^_^
none of this matters when the quiet kid at school pulls out an AR-15 and starts shooting
In swedish it callde pfisolago
Do you train all the moviments of the weapons with both hands??
I want to know if it's really necessary to train with my horrible left hand
dude if you don't then it will always be horrible
oh god I really hope you didn't mean a medical problems
The hawaiian name for the golden berry is "Poha"
Aside from showiness, what is the advantage of neck changes? Surely breaking visual contact with an opponent is a bad idea?
it is a last ditch effort to hit an opponent who quickly closes in on you
The last fruit seems like an Alchechengi...
Super 👍
