    my north star. I was finding my way back to Jesus, after a 50+ year wandering. But all I had were tired, old, petty, sometimes mean and hurtful guidelines, imposed on me as a child. Then I found Nouwen. Keating. Merton. Thomas Aquinas. Boniventure, Paul of Taursus, Julian of Norwich. Theresa of Liseux, Francis and Clare. Pope Francis' "Laudato Si" and much more. All given to me by Richard, the CAC, and the Franciscan Alternative Orthopraxy. I am home.

    Fr. Richard Rohr is truly an exemplar of a true wisdom on earth: such humility and non-attachment to self that, in fact, shines and gives light to so many. I consider myself incredibly blessed to have known him in my life. He made such a deep impact in my life: for truly knowing myself, God and love itself. My ever-so-deeply love to him with every good and peace.

    Txs for your comments on non duality and focus on contemplation versus the falseness of certainty. I recall the mantra from growing up "I know whom I have believed." Behavior and conversation from these folks never validated the claim ... created confusion and made me feel deficient for not being "able to get it." Thankful I remained honest to myself by not denying my confusion. From my perspective these days, the confusion seems like a very healthy reaction. Always enjoy Father Rohr. Thank you!

    All the natural religions point to the non-dual experience. Only Christianity through Christ reveals the Father though. A reality far higher then the unitive experience and specifically Christian and reveals a personal Godhead. Gregory Palemas wrote about the “non-dual” state calling it the “unitive uncreated energies of God”. St. Paul mentioned the three Heavens. These are the three emanations of the Father. They are unique Divine experiences of the One body of our Lord. The state of “Oneness “ could be called the first Heaven. This is the highest state of consciousness man can experience naturally. The Father and the mystery of Christ is only revealed by Christ through the Holy Spirit. And when you are brought there before the Father of Lights you can ask whatever you wish and the mysteries will be opened to you. You will receive whatever you ask. This experience Richard doesn’t mention. Contemplation can help but the Father is unapproachable. When our heart can open to the reality of Christ ,you will be “lifted up into the Clouds where He will meet you and all the dead will rise from their graves in the great Resurrection. Then you will know that Jesus was the Christ, the only Son who came to also make us Sons and Daughters of God. The miracle of the Good News is more true then we can imagine.
    Glory to God for all things!!

    • @JHeb_

      Nonduality is not a state of consciousness. You describe a mythical belief rather than the true ground of being. I don't think you really "understand" nondual being if you describe it that way.

      @@marytygett4189 But if one is a good old-fashioned Catholic (which I am not) , one believes that "hell" (in this context) means the "limbus patrum", the "limbo of the fathers," that non-punitive but still God-deprived place which the Old Testament righteous folks inhabited until the death of Christ "opened the doors of heaven" for them. "Limbo" was a relatively late construct of Catholic theology to explain how God would judge human beings who, though righteous or free from sin (Old Testament saints or children who died before the age of reason and therefore the capacity for sin), didn't have the benefit of Christ's saving death and resurrection. One can also take the position that since "hell" in the Apostles' Creed translates the word "Hades," all that is meant by saying the Christ descended into hell between his death and resurrection is that he died, i.e. went to Hades, which in Greek was a more neutral word for the place of the dead, more similar to the Hebrew word "sheol" than to Christian ideas of hellfire and damnation. 1 Peter, chapter 3, says that Christ went to "preach to the spirits in prison," which Catholics interpret as Christ proclaiming the good news of his salvific death to the likes of Noah and Abraham, as in, "Although you were righteous, heaven was closed since Adam and Eve's sin, so God sent you to the limbo of the fathers. Now you can get out of limbo and go to heaven, since I died for your sins!!" aka the "harrowing of hell." Granted that the doctrine of both the limbo of the fathers and the limbo of unbaptized infants has pretty much dropped out of catechetical sight since Vatican 2 (except among the most conservative of Catholics), this is the way it was interpreted traditionally. In any case, no orthodox Catholic believes that Jesus went to hell, in the common sense of the word, after his death. However, bizarre cultists such as Kenneth Copeland do.

    RR is a cult leader. He says no one really knows what consciousness is. Yet he seems to talk about something he doesn’t know a lot. I would say that is all he talks about. He talks about you as someone who experiences. Where is this mysterious you that has a mind that thinks outside the you? Furthermore, consciousness is being aware of the nature around us. Consciousness is consciousness of something. There is no consciousness in death, or sleep for that matter. If you fall asleep an do not wake up you will not know it. The end of consciousness is the end of knowing. I do not have a soul, I am a soul. I do not have a mind, I am a mind. I do not have a body, I am a body. And as a finite body I will never know some things. We can never get outside the creation and become like the creator. If we join ourselves to the universal we had better know what it is we are joining ourselves to, universal nihilism or universal life. Notice how RR transcends the atonement of the gospels as but another means of coming to God.

    Notice in the comments that Richard elicits only overawed adoration (or rarely: equally unsophisticated anathemas) from his students (rather than dialectical or Socratic mutual questioning in the search for truth). He functions as an oracle or an icon to be reverenced. That kind of hero-worship is a primitive level of spiritual awareness, and not evolved at all. In fact, it's characteristic of cults and other authoritarian groups. Can we bump it up a notch, into true inquiry or even egalitarian mystical community, where no one person is the oracle-who-can't-be-questioned? And if anyone is taking offense at what I'm saying, prove me wrong by offering a little mild, nuanced criticism of anything Richard says or does.

    • @Robb3348
      @Robb3348 2 года назад +1

      I'll show you what I mean by nuance, by offering some positive evaluations about Richard: he's very good medicine for people who haven't strayed very far from a traditional Christian upbringing, since he shows that liberal Christian theology/spirituality is an option, rather than the dichotomous choice between traditional understandings vs. atheism; he has a good understanding of non-dual states of mind and contemplative prayer; I especially appreciate his bedrock understanding that social action and contemplation can't be truly separated. He takes liberal stances on most of the important social issues. BUT I don't see him stimulating much intellectual activity; I think he dumbs down the rich intellectual tradition associated with contemplative prayer and meditation (no mention of pseudo-Dionysius??) I think when all is said and done, he's pretty tame; and he's not self-disclosing about his personal journey and his personal struggles, which lack of transparency is suspect in my mind and not very inspiring. What is he hiding? It wouldn't be anything....sexual, would it?? ;) ...since we are all sexual beings, even those who take a vow of celibacy, and sexuality is key to spiritual development IMO. And wouldn't it be much more inspiring if he revealed more about his personal stuff? Even confessed a failing or two, with appropriate context? But then the unrealistic sheen on his image might be tarnished a little...except not really, because that would show a spiritual courage which in reality he does NOT show because of his lack of self-disclosure. At this point, he could afford a more personal story without being defrocked or anything, right? So I encourage him to do so! Okay, there! That's what I mean by a tempered response to him. Do you see the value of that, over starry-eyed superlatives that don't stimulate any further reflection?

      @@williamoarlock8634 "Our nada, who art in nada, nada be thy name." Apophatic mystics and religious critics of religion (not to mention Hemingway) would agree agreeably with you. Very old news. btw do you exist? or "are" you nothing as well? just curious

      You do realize that Fr Rohr has been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and has had a serious heart attack. Some of the symptoms you are attributing to alcohol could be from illness and medication.

      All told, with all things factually taken into account, this is an heroic effort.

      He has a special voice, and always had, that might sound a bit slurred. He has also had health problems which probably affected it further. It might also be age, I worked with elderly people and some might have slightly slurred speech even if they have not had a stroke (he might, I don't know but I know he had a heart attack and those things are connected). I am almost 100% certain he is not drunk. If you listen to older recordings of him you will hear that the voice is consistent but more slurred now than before.

    False teachers. The Word, Jesus Christ is the Head of His Church and He alone is the focus of the Church, the teaching of the apostles and the Gospel is the main mission of the church and true Christians. Not feeding the hungry, which we should do. Not social justice movements which are of the world. Not defending the sin of adulterers or homosexuals which are 2 of many sins that should never be allowed a foothold in the church. Like other sins such as practicing thieves, practicing murderers, practicing fornicators, practicing abortionists, etc. If they come to Christ in Church with a contrite heart, confessing their sins, praying earnestly for Christ's forgiveness through His Grace He is faithful and just to forgive them. That means if they've honestly been born again people will see a change in their life. Otherwise, if they continue in adultery or filthy homosexual behavior that in itself will be a testimony against them. Rohr, McLaren, Bell, Warren, the Pope, and many others are heretics openly. It's about them and their gnostic mystical approach to Christ's teaching that never existed. Mysticism is condemned in the Word of God. In effect these men and women are anti-christ. They don't rely on the Word of God. They add their own brilliance and progressive junk to His teachings. God has no equal. That is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is One. All others are anti-christ and come from Satan. These people are enamored with themselves and their own progressively worse leftist agenda. They love mixing politics and new age mysticism. They are wolves in sheep clothing. Avoid them. When you see them on the byways of life walk straight ahead. Never looking their way. They are headed for a deep ditch and a fall. Don't be deceived by their poisoned intellect and titles. They follow the same path as Sodom and Gomorrah. Baal, moloch, buddha and allah are their allies. When they're done with their blasphemous plans they'll form others. Theirs is the way of death that leads down only into the pit.

      Jesus was a mystic. He was openly against the rigid pharisee doctrine. It's the fundamentalists like yourself who are the "real" heretics.
