- Reinhard Van Astrea is one of the most interesting characters in Re:Zero. Since I hadn't seen many videos analyzing this character, so I took it upon myself to try and take a deeper dive into who he is. So, let's discuss the current sword saint who is the friend of Natsuki Subaru, son of Heinkel Astrea and Grandson Of Theresia Van Astrea!

Really excited to see more of reinhard in the next few volumes, doing this video allowed me to understand this character and he is defiantly one of my favorite now
It makes you realise just how emotionally impactful it was when puck, about to freeze the world, told Reinhard that he was a hero, and that's all he'll ever be. Puck basically told him that no one would ever see Reinhard as a person, a hunan being... only as a weapon.

Tappei said on 04/21 in commemotion of the 10th anniversary of Re Zero, that Reinhard's name chapter will be on arc 11, meaning the last arc of the series. Hype.

For starters Tappei never stated re zero is going to have 11 arcs. That's a myth.
So basically Reinhardt vs Satella
Subaru is one of the few people who understands Reinhard’s weakness.
Roswaal said it pretty elegantly in arc 4 when he pointed out that Subaru could only be in one place at a time (hence why he set up attack at the mansion and Sanctuary at the same time, to force Subaru to choose snd learn to sacrifice). Subaru probably realises Reinhard suffers from this same issue.
Then there’s the loop in arc 5 where Reinhard defeats Sirius at the cost of those he needed to protect.
All of this culminated in Subaru saying he’ll cover for the areas where Reinhard lacks.
And Reinhard seemed genuinely grateful when Subaru said that like he knew that Subaru understood and was really grateful there was someone who understood him

Either you sacrifice and pay the price of something or having others to help where you lack . Either way. He was right you cannot do all the things .
@@andreighibolariu1580 Yes, and Subaru didn’t dispute that claim either, because it’s patently true. It’s just a consequence of him not having some sort of cloning ability or something.
In my opinion, the only reason Subaru didn’t end up emotionless like Roswaal, is that the tome of wisdom failed to account for Otto.
I assume that the issue is due to the nature of Return by Death. Given that Subaru can enter or exit a looping cycle on a whim, perhaps the tome’s equation just failed to notice a single variable somewhere, causing a butterfly effect of ever escelating failing predictions.
Also, since the tome of wisdom seems to gain its information from the world, and since RbD as an authority flies in the face of the spacetime continuum, it wouldn’t surprise if RbD somehow messes with the part of Od Laguna that keeps track of some of the knowledge that the tome of wisdom relies on, making the tome’s predictions more unreliable with every loop.
Despite their differences both Subaru and Reinhard fear being abandoned for failing to meet people's expectations. I think in arc 8 they'll overcome their fear.
I think it just how they handle it is completely opposite

I really wish to see more from him, but even arc 5 made him go absent for more than half of it.
I like how Tappei creats situations where evem with Reinhard's overpower abilits it still not possible to just win, or to Subaru to just use Reinhard as a every situatuon weapon. Like with Sirius or later with Regulus, or evem later in Arc 6.

Sure. Image be perfect in everything. Everybody sees you as this perfect and almost messianic being, when in realit, Reinhard's mind and emotions, as far as we know, are that of every human.
On top of that his family problens. His mother on a coma, her grandmother is dead, his father and grandfather dislike him for things he couldn't di anything. about.

You covered his character pretty well imo , his modest character was a big red flag for me when I was watching season 1 , I knew there had to be some tragic backstory behind it

I didn't watch the video. Even though I'll say this .
The "You are a Hero, Reinhardt" Just means that Reinhardt became a hero, but a Hero after the disaster, where people died. A ideal King would save people during disaster. But Reinhardt would instead protect the King instead of protecting the people, even though the King wants to save people. Reinhardt has all the power in the world but he lacks in the decisions of good or bad.
According to Emilia's Future Trial, the phrase would be returning, most likely during water fall arc, Arc 7 beyond, which would be said Subaru.

I love this whole video, i feel like you captured Reinhardt's character perfectly it's amazing
I feel like subaru will have to stop reinhardt from killing satella, in order to do that he'll have to talk to him and safe his soul cause him to lose his blessing
I have 2 theories about Reinhard.
The first : he's a reincarnator. He have some similarities with Subaru, but his new life gave him all the powers he ever dreamed off, except after growing, he realized his powers made him lonely, misunderstood, and were more of a prison than a gift. He's stuck in his role as the ultimate hero, but he find no joy in it because he feel the world is never giving him any choices, which is why his unexpected meeting with Fels was for him the occasion of getting off the rails and find his own destiny.
The second : he's secretly extremely petty and resentful of others, living a fulfilling life, but he's too well behaved to let it show, and he's afraid giving in one time into a spiteful remark or a low act will definitely send him off a spiral road of villainy.
that would be cool, if reinhard was the actual stereotype isekai protagonist

The person in the comments in TG constantly says that he is reinforced concrete, that his Emotions are not sincere, but feigned as His happiness. For example, it is shown that in pride if where he he showed sincere emotion at the end of the if where he burned the floor of Lugunika. But behind the Mask he hides not bemocyanality, but the pain hidden behind a smile. To put it bluntly, he threw away his humanity in order to protect people and the world. But it seems to me that in the future I will reveal him as a person, and even if he is persistent, he may have Regret and guilt, but he cannot show his Emotions like sincere anger and other more destructive Emotions. And he constantly blames himself for the death of his grandmother and for the fact that he cannot always save other people, but he must understand that it is not his fault
Reinhard a hero that I liked him the moment he showed up

No, this is not so, from the fifth arch you can understand that it was accidentally accepted by Theresia due to the fact that this happens in a different period of time and was transferred to Reinhard

Okay. Mate, almost half of what you mentioned about Reinhard ' s character is wrong and/or biased. I'm not going to give spoilers or anything, just share a little bit.
From the side stories to the manga, and even to the LN and ex volumes, For circunstances that I can't tell cuz it would be a spoiler for someone who only in the middle of arc 5, Reinhard imposed himself to be the sword Saint. For more or less the same circunstances Reinhard willingly choose to not hav e friends, lovers, and mainly to not rely on people. He's not a good guy that fights for justice or smt like that. Reinhard is not a good or bad person, he's just a normal strong guy, aside from that he's quite incompetent. For more surprising this may sound, Reinhard is quite weak when it comes to comunicating with other people and he can't express his feelings for the same reason. The main reason for his father to enter in depression and start tô hate Reinhard was mainly because of another reason and not because of what you mentioned in the vídeo. There are tbh quite a lot of things that are wrong in this video, but i'll stop here cuz i'm incapable of explaining each one of them due to you only reading re zero up to the middle of arc 5.
Edit: Just to be cristal clear, i'm not giving hate comments or undermining Reinhard ' s character, i'm merely criticising the info in this video alongside the contents of it (Reinhards character). If you, who are reading this comment feels wronged or simply didn't like what I said or the way i said it feel free to consider everything I said as a grain of salt.
Nah this comment is needed, I said at the beginning of the video I had a lot of missing information, so this is good. And does that mean reinhard made his grandma die?
@@JusDHero I'm unsure if you're talking about the first or the second time. If I'ts the first then yeah, technically you could say so, there's also a chance of another " thing" being one of the main culprits, but this is close to the area of speculation and a spoiler, so i'll just ignore it.

The first time I watched Re:Zero, I thought "man, Reinhard kicks ass. Why can't he be the protagonist instead of Subaru?"

You think Subaru's not a nuanced character? There are flags set up every time he forgives another person who could kill people he loves or betray him at any moment.
Subaru is a much better Mc than Reinhard. Also Reinhard can be summed up as an over powered Subaru. He feels as if he is always letting people down(even though he literally isn't).
He tries to be a voice of reason with unreasonable people. He is patient and understanding in a world of prideful and brash people who often fight before they think.
