The comment section is so toxic. It doesn’t matter how much Chinese space technology comes from the Soviet Union or the west, but to be able to launch and build a space station by itself isn’t an easy feat.
We should congratulate China for catching up with the west and welcome healthy competition, not belittle them, calling their achievement “theft”, “copy”, or “not able to invent themselves”. If looking down upon somebody else makes you feel good, “superior”, then it is you that might have a self esteem problem, not them.

      Monkey See Monkey Do.
If the Western politicians n media personnel still have any moral value left, they should stop belittle China.
In the history of human civilization, Italian (Marco Polo) went all the way from Europe to China to learn from Chinese, British learned from Italian, German learned from British, American learned from German. Japanese learned from American.
Why didn't these Western politicians n media personnel also accuse Italian, British, German, American n Japanese for stealing, especially from China ?
Oh ya, these Western politicians n personnel just pretend the theft from China never happened.
These people are really very bad role models for their own people.

If translated directly, "Tiangong" would be called a palace in the sky, but in fact it has a deeper cultural connotation. The "Heavenly Palace" actually refers to the place where the immortals and gods live in Chinese mythology, which has many mythological stories similar to the system of Norse mythology. Many spacecraft are named the same way, for example, the Mars rover is named after the god of fire, "Zhurong", because Mars is a red planet. The name of the lunar rover is named after the legendary goddess Chang'e who lives on the moon, and the name of the solar rover is named after the goddess of the sun "Xihe". So many of the names are related to Chinese mythology.

There is a famous of a story of the Soviets giving the Chinese a deliberately faulty Mig 21 fighter design knowing the Chinese would attempt to copy it and fail.
The Chinese went on to copy the Mig21 design, and found many additional design failures not picked up by the Soviets.
Their version went on to become superior to the original and earned some exports. This J7 fighter resolved inherent flaws in design in the Mig 21 (like the fuel tank design) and was of similar performance and was cheap to produce.
We see this today with the Chinese supposedly copying American tech in hypersonics and going on to resolve their flaws - creating functional and affordable hypersonic weapons that the US still struggles to produce 3 years later

The following article is written by Ismail Bashmori, he is an Egyptian China watcher.
The truth is that China is the greatest country on the face of the earth. It makes all other countries look insignificant and contemptible. It is the most brilliant, most industrious, most ambitious, most educated, meritocratic and technocratic, most modern, sophisticated, and civilised, and best-governed by far. .
It is the first non-white, non-Western country to reach this status since the 1600s. The determination of this country is indescribable. Supernatural. There is no force that can stop it from accomplishing anything it wants to do.
It doesn’t matter who we are. Egyptians, Syrians, Pakistanis, Indians, Africans, even Americans. Next to the Chinese, we are pathetic. We can’t do what they do. We would have a mountain, an Everest of changes to make, and we would whine and bicker and fail at every one of them. China’s story since the 1980s has been one of an almost divine metamorphosis.
Next to China the entire Western world from Alaska to New Zealand has stagnated. Next to China the entire developing world from Brazil to Madagascar has progressed only at a crawl.
China is the mother of all gargantuan bullet trains. Every day it manages to create something new and astonishing. And unlike the United States, unlike the British Empire, unlike the French, Dutch, Germans, Spanish, Portuguese or any other Western nation that had its turn at being a superpower in the past four centuries, China doesn’t need to run anybody over or take something from somebody else, to rise majestically.
China is also standing up to the West all by herself. The West can’t believe their four-hundred-year-old global supremacy is being challenged. They hoped that the more China developed, the more it would submit to their influence, interests, and leadership. That didn’t happen. So now they will do anything possible, short of a nuclear war, to make China end.
Their goal is to destroy this country. That’s why, although the United States has killed several million people and turned several regions of the earth into hellscapes.
China is the worst fear of our planet’s Western masters. They want you to despise and dread a country that’s done nothing to you, that hasn’t invaded anyone, bombed or sanctioned anyone, that hasn’t overthrown any foreign government, or used its military on anything since 1979.
China is the only major country in the nonwhite developing world, to stand up to the West. To look it in the eye when challenged or threatened.
The Global South are simply Western puppets who submitted long ago. Even the most powerful ones. Saudi Arabia, Brazil, India.
The 1500s-1000s BC were Egypt’s time. Antiquity belonged to the Greeks and Romans. The 1700s belonged to France, and the 1800s to Britain. From 1945 to the present, the world has been under American overlordship. And they call it the Pax Americana but there isn’t much Pax in it.
There’s plenty of Pax if you’re in Europe or Australia. But the Middle East? Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Iran and Yemen in the past 20 years. Latin America? They’ve destroyed that part of the world beyond any hope of recovery. Africa? It’s only been spared because of disinterest. The US sees Africa as nothing. The whole West does.
But in the twenty-first century, we are witnessing the rise of China. We are decades away from China becoming the greatest power on earth. This will be China’s time, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Attack China all you want, curse her and monger rumours and hysteria - but the truth is that none of your accusations are backed up by evidence. The Western press is under the thumb of Western governments that want to stay on top of the world for eternity. And the truth is that China is not affected by the noise and maneuvers of her enemies.
For her first thirty years, from 1949 to 1979, China was basically blockaded and isolated economically and politically by the West. It didn’t even have a seat in the UN General Assembly. And it was dirt-poor in those days, barely a speck of the global economy, a tiny fraction of Japan’s or Germany’s GDP - not even able to prevent famine. And it still didn’t submit to pressure or take any orders. Why on earth would it do that now?
China will be the next global power. There’s nothing that can be done about that. The first stage is that its economy only needs to grow at 4.7 percent per year to become the world’s largest by 2035. That means the usual, historical bare-minimum of 6 percent is already overkill. The US can build as many bases as it wants, slap as many sanctions as it wants, recognise whatever bogus genocides it wants. That’s what it’s been doing all along. Has any of it made a difference? China can adapt to any situation. It took China a mere ten years to go from being barred by the US Congress from participating in the “International” Space Station, to building its own Space Station from zero.

A nice thing to be regularly reminding ourselves of is that, the very reason China is building its own Space Station today was that when they requested to join the ISS the international community refused it, Everyone else, even Russia was allowed to come, but not China.

The international modules were added mainly for politics because after the US won the cold war, the appetite for large competitive projects among the American public died out, we canceled the Super Conducting Super Collider, and the ISS was also going to be canceled. It was saved primarily by re-designing it with international partners involved who would "share the costs". In reality, it didn't reduce the cost of the station for Americans, but *politically* it looked like other nations would save us costs and share the burden.
The US did not need Soyuz or Progress at the time, it had the Shuttle for assembly, crew transport, and resupply. Although the shuttle is kind of expensive for re-supply missions. However, to act like the US did not have multiple medium-lift launchers to launch re-supplies or the technology to build re-supply is ludicrous.
To be sure, Soyuz/Progress were cost saving, ready-made for the mission they were selected for. But the US had Atlas and Delta and if I needed to develop an automated cargo craft, it could have been done (Europe developed the ATV, and as we've seen with Starliner and Crew Dragon, it's not an issue)

Reading through the comments, all I have to say is we dismiss Chinese progress to our own detriment. I remember a few years back the response to this kind of news would be 'we need extra research funding / incentives for students to study STEM / etc. to stay ahead' - not sure why it has suddenly become 'lala close our eyes and pretend it's not happening'. Something like a space station and scientific progress in general is obviously great for humanity as a whole - not everything has to be a confrontational competition, but the same attitude becomes very dangerous when it comes to the military for example. Thought we were all taught this in the story of the Tortoise and the Hare...

Natural disaster, famine is not the same as direct murder in wars. Level of responsibility is completely different, one has motive and one doesn't. That's why there's difference between murder and manslaughter, or even accidental death from natural disaster. No one blames natural disaster deaths on ruling governments except haters like victims of communism organisation and people like you.
China in 1949 had life expectancy of 30-40 years, 0 literacy rate, 0 technology. It was also under threat of foreign attack and invasion by nuclear powers like USA, and China needed to do everything it could to defend itself in the shortest time possible or be wiped out by nuclear bombs from hostile USA and western powers, just like the 8 nation alliance decades ago. Context matters.
Natural disasters kill millions every year in China for thousands of years. So tens of millions dying over decades is normal until CPC put an end to that once and for all after Millenia of such high casualty rates.
Don't compare china to Europe or west since Eu and USA combined isn't even half of China's population. China cannot be compared with anyone, not even India. China is world superpower rivalling USA, India isn't even a peer rival to Japan or Germany or uk or France.

Interior space is relatively easy to provide once the essential control and life support equipment has been perfected. Either increase the diameter of the modules or add additional modules to the ends and side of a central support and docking structure. The ISS has an internal volume roughly equivalent to a Boeing 747 while the Chinese space station is probably closer to a Boeing 737. So quite a difference in size but like the aircraft, once the essentials are in place and proved to work, it is a relatively simple matter to scale up the structure to whatever is needed. Aerodynamic loads during launch through the lower parts of the Earth’s atmosphere favour thinner longer structures as well as reducing the power required for first stage boosters. Far larger, heavier rockets would be needed to launch ‘fat’ modules but in theory several thinner segments could be launched and bolted together in orbit to make up a rotating ring structure, for example. This would have the advantage of providing a area of artificial gravity which astronauts could use for exercise to maintain bone mass and muscle strength on longer missions.

So technically they can add another module after the four. But since the whole spacestation is just under two years old. It can technically last much longer..maybe 10 or more years. During that time they can choose to add more modules to enlarge the spacestation. I think it's best they move the spacestation to the L2 region. It could act as a relay station, emergency life boat, and astronomical observatory with the Chinese Hubble telescope attached.
It's better than crashing it in the ocean. The lunar base will still take time to establish. In the meantime planning a larger spacestation would benefit long term presence in space. The Chinese are testing technologies for building lunar base.
A recent article reported China is reportedly building a Dam with 3d printing with robotic excavator using A. I. here on earth. This is all prelude to building a lunar base remotely without the need to put humans on the moon. At least building the initial habitat for humans on moon.. Then humans can take over.

      @briangoss8062 2 года назад

It is tiny compared to the ISS and China releases almost no information about it to the rest of the world. They also have VERY intermittent launches. Very rare. Also what is the big deal about a microwave? You do realize a microwave is a strong source of Electromagnetic interference right? High power microwave (HPM) radiation with frequency>1 GHz may penetrate electronic systems through front or backdoor openings and propagate like the genuine signal. Sometimes parasitic resonance may amplify the HPM signal and cause havoc to these systems. The surface currents caused by HPM can also interfere with the normal signals and upset the functioning of devices. The HPM incident upon electronic components may damage them through mechanisms like adiabatic heating of the junction or punch-through of the depletion layer. Of course you knew all that, silly me. The three most important resources in space are Oxygen, Water and Electricity. EVERYTHING on the ISS is designed to use as little of those thee resources as possible. Using a microwave also causes significant current draws when in use and is thus a source of possible breaker tripping\surging. Everything is designed to draw as little resources as possible in all circumstances, RIDICULOUS I know huh? I am sure you also know most of their food is either natural, dehydrated or thermostabilized in nature. Most doesn't require anything other than a bit of hot water to prepare so a microwave isn't really needed particularly. They do have a warming oven (not a true oven) that heats up to about 180 degrees to warm the thermostabilized meals. A microwave is really unnecessary as you don't actually cook on board the ISS, again, I am sure you already knew that. The warming oven uses far less electricity and at a maximum temp of about 180 degrees is uses FAR less electricity and is much safer than a microwave and produces very little actual warm air which would escape into the ISS and need to be counter acted against in the controlled environment they live in.

Can you cover The Thunderwell!? Nuclear steam piston concept weapon/launch system for destroying asteroids or Aliens lol or launching cargo into orbit! 😁✌
The steam accelerated Jules Verne capsule, which was suggested by the speed of at least 6 times earth’s escape velocity, achieved by the 10-cm thick, 1.2 m diameter steel cover blown off the top of the 152 m shaft of the 0.3 kt Plumbbob-Pascal B underground Nevada test on 27 August 1957. In that test, a 1.5 m thick 2 ton concrete plug immediately over the bomb was pushed up the shaft by the detonation, knocking the welded steel lid upward. This was a preliminary experiment by Dr Robert Brownlee which ultimately aimed to launch spacecraft using the steam pressure from deep shafts filled with water, with a nuclear explosion at the bottom; an improvement of Jules Verne’s cannon-fired projectile described in De la Terre à la Lune, 1865, where steam pressure would give a more survivable gentle acceleration than Verne’s direct impulse from an explosion. Some 90% of the radioactivity would be trapped underground!

The word 'Tian Gong' in Mandarin is ‘天宫’ means 'The Heavenly Palace', which is the reference from China Myth in the world of 'Journey to the west', which The Heavenly Palace is the place where all the gods staying there end up getting destroyed by Sun Wukong, then only getting sealed under a mountain by Buddha for 500 years.

If technology can be secretly stolen, why can't other countries be?Is the moral level of these countries high?If the technology of Western countries is always stolen, then voters should seriously ask politicians if they arrears the salary of the staff of the confidential department. When I was a student, I often heard some people ridiculed a classmate who was originally behind but worked very hard. They degraded his intelligence and slandered his achievements, thinking that he cheated every time.
This is a narrow perspective that is not conducive to its own progress. If Westerners like it, it is exactly what China is happy to see.
