I have an ancestor called Pellew. He got the name through the old British naval tradition of officers naming their male children with the surname of the captain they were serving with when the child was born. So it was really nice to see a reference to Capt. Pellew Keep up the good work!
You NEED to get some footage of the launch! Even if you get the footage from someone else who is there. It would make for a great video if you can get there to cover it or at least a little segment in one of your own videos if you can't. Please, I'd love to see it if you could. Cheers!🍻
Excellent and I love that Luke promotes the use of trees as a carbon sink and encourages the sustainable management of them. Good luck with the launch and all that follows.
Awwe poor Pancho... That bird loves him! I don't know whats going to happen to him when its all said and done. Either he has himself a pirate captains bird or poor Pancho is going to be one lonely broken hearted birdy. 😭 🐦
Trimming up the keel as we speak. Mind you he wouldn't be as fast and exciting to watch as Leo wielding an adze! That is poetry in (speeded up) action!
Thank you Leo for stepping in while I can't be there to document the progress! :-) Great to see how they are getting along and to see Luke being his old self! Cheers
Thanks from all of the boat building families of Man O War Cay, Abaco Bahamas.... Settlement rebuilders also. The community is rebuilding after the Hurricane. As always, we enjoy your videos. This one is great. Love the Pilot Cutters
@johnbee7729 If the forest is properly managed it will live for ever... The individual trees can be harvested and new trees planted to replace them so keeping the forest and it's habitat alive and vibrant!
Well, that's the best load of bollocks I've heard spoken for a good long time. She looks fantastic. Atb to all who have worked on Pellew, and you too Leo.
Pilot Cutters are the vessel.... equal, balanced, and lovely.SHE will be a challenge to sail, but an experience of a lifetime....Eighty years in the making, "PELLEW" sounds magnificent. I would give my eye teeth to see her, and seeing you and her are remarkable, only LEO could bring us such astounding video.....Owned a Falmoth Cutter as a youth, and the investment in time and effort here is mind boggling.
Great to see young people getting into the craft of building wooden boats. I used to live in Truro. Many fond memories. The old Quay is now filled in. Had a few beers in the Tinners in my day. Looking forward to the next chapter of Tally Ho
Good luck to the owners, the crew of the PELLEW and all who sail on her. It's great to see wooden boats like the PELLEW being built and even better when people like Leo commit to rebuilding wooden boats like TALLY HO. May Neptune bless them all.
What an inspiring load of old bollocks. As one who has the t-shirt,I can say that building an ocean going boat is the greatest combination of pain and pleasure imaginable to man, If i wasnt so old and so broke from the first adventure, I would start again tomorrow!
Wow she is as gorgeous as any centerfold you'll ever see. Love the classic arched & angle of the stern. The below deck is fabulous & that galley is beautiful. I want to see her launched & under sail. Thanks for the tour.
Always wonderful to meet the hero of one of my heros....if i could live my life over...I would follow in your wake without a second thought!!. KUDOS!!!
That man is a treasure. Him and Fred Dibnah would have been one heel of an evening of stories and information. This episode is a testament to the ingenuity of the British.
Now that has the most beautiful lines. Luke is the type of guy I'd sit next to the pub fire and listen to all evening. Thanx for the invaluable resource of your channel, to expose these relatively obscure - and amazing - projects. 1 400 sq ft of canvas? She's gong to f-l-y. Wish I could be crew, if only once. Crewed on a barquentine (105 ft) and brigantine (120 ft). There is nothing so exhilarating as the crack of sail from the yards, in a reach with 30-kt winds, stem throwing up spray.
This vessel is superbly beautiful. Down below is magnificent. I am in awe of the craftsmanship. I keep replaying the video. I am a woodworker who once had a dream to build a wooden ocean going sailing vessel. Too old now.... but take enormous pleasure in seeing people realize the dream and are ensuring future generations keep building boats like these.
What a beautiful build! Had to go back and watch your original visit all over again. Shame you weren't around to do the same sort of interview and walk through while the Greyhound was being built. She's another beauty and I watch the time-lapse build of her often.
Wood boats are one of the great human achievements of all time. Wood musical instruments also. The cons mentioned in support of wood boats is spot on. And totally true.
One single man operating that large a boat? Wow! I want to see this! Also I really appreciate the builder's thoughts on sustainability and carbon capture.
Lin Mal Okay, to start with, you would probably run it on the main sail solely. That way it seems doable to me. On the way back there was no need to hurry.
Great project. What a wealth of knowledge generations and generations worth being passed on by Luke and Leo. Civilisation is contained. In people like this. Great opportunity for youngsters with the right genes (hands on with good brains).
The all mighty tree gives so much. I love woodworking, mostly traditional furniture, but have built a few small (less than 12.5 ft) tenders. I have had the desire to build a 20 ft sailing vessel for about 10 years, but haven't got past the planning stage. Luke's speech is motivating - he's right about not thinking about too much, just do it!
Wonderful to hear you speak On the evolution and procurement of the vessel "PELLEW", share your attitude, and a young mans pursuit; which as young as you are sir, means all of us.Cheers.
Thanks for such an interesting interview, as well as an informative video, Leo! I certainly enjoyed hearing a sound justification for wooden boats, from an equally impressive mariner and builder.
Remarkable story about leaving the boy in charge of bringing the boat back alone. A different world. On another note, there is something oddly compelling with the lines of boat hull and sail. Where compound curve, ogive, cut; never intended to excite the imagination, lie beneath the line of sight while sail, voluptuous lay above, yet both in efficient service. Thanks for making me dream Leo.
Leo thanks for showing use this beautiful boat. It is magnificent! Hope they video the launch and post it so we can watch. Would love to see the finished product. Thanks
Now That's A Boat!!!!! Wow He has quite the Project It's Absolutely Beautiful Hope you get all your stuff organized and get back to your own boat. All the best from Canada
I love the advice: if you want to start a project, don’t think about it, just do it. Leo followed that advice, by his own admission. I totally get the romance.
Passion and dreams are what got me started in boat building. Way before I could drive a car I was trying to build something that would float me away to never never land. Forty years ago I got a chance to apprentice to a shipwright and I haven't stopped yet. Now retired, I still have those nervous twitches if I don't have some sort of boat in the works...
That boat is beautiful I know personally from just attacking small projects of wood the time money and frustration that goes into it . You have to have drive to complete a project especially one that big . But once you’ve accomplished it you get the. Satisfaction of looking at it with pride. I find myself looking at a project repeatedly once I’m finished and marveling in it !
Great update on this big gal! Can't wait to see the upcoming launch and rigging up as surely it will be out there I hope. Pancho is patiently awaiting your return it appears! No doubt Luke threw some wood on the burning passion and seeing her almost ready for the sea surely must pump up the anticipation of getting back to work on Tally Ho.
I really appreciate Luke's sentiments. Long ago I decided I wanted to own a boat , but modern watercraft with wonky mechanics and electronics never appealed to me and I knew I'd never own a wooden sailboat if I didn't build one myself. Still haven't started yet but I'm closer now than I've ever been thanks to this and all the other boat building channels.
Great video and awe-inspiring and humbling for all who watch your excellent channel. I look forward to the day when Tally Ho is ready for launch. Thank you for posting such amazing videos and safe travels back to the PNW.
Congratulations!! in the 1970s my falmouth cutter, which had been sunk for 10 years, carried a 22foot boom and had a 7 to 1 reduction via the blocks on the running main sheet Paul France
Thank you Leo for this wonderful video. I remember the video where you showed Luke and Pellew the first time. She has come a long way. What a beautiful thing she is going to be. Definitely hope to see a video of her being launched. Take care and hope you had a safe trip back.
What a fascinating and intelligent man.
Which one?

...good one! both legends! lol
Well said S Jay
He would have hooked me as a young man. I love wooden boats.
"Once you are out there on the boat, you and the boat are the world. Everything else disappears." What a line. This is why we sail! Thank you!
I have an ancestor called Pellew. He got the name through the old British naval tradition of officers naming their male children with the surname of the captain they were serving with when the child was born. So it was really nice to see a reference to Capt. Pellew Keep up the good work!
Luke is a poet. Sailed with him twice. What a legend!
That is exactly what I thought. It's like his life is poetry. And I think Leo is well on his way to reach that level.
You NEED to get some footage of the launch!
Even if you get the footage from someone else who is there. It would make for a great video if you can get there to cover it or at least a little segment in one of your own videos if you can't.
Please, I'd love to see it if you could.

The launch will be streamed on Facebook Live, "Working Sail Ltd" 29 Feb 0900 UTC.
And the interior when it is all fitted out!
Absolutely.
@@frederickstibbert7389 dang, that's 0100 where I am. Guess I'll have to stay up late that night!
I second that.
Excellent and I love that Luke promotes the use of trees as a carbon sink and encourages the sustainable management of them. Good luck with the launch and all that follows.
Yes, and I almost didn't catch on to that little green Extinction Rebellion button he was wearing. I knew I liked this guy!
One wise man interviews another. A lifetime of truth to be learned here.
No machine will ever replace old school craftsmanship ,,,another floating piece of art,,,,well done sir !!!
Meanwhile Pancho is walking around the Tally Ho with the chickens wondering where the hell are you ?? lol
I am afraid Pancho is chopping bits off the Tally Ho, eating his way through the hull !
@@Roucasson I should think by now he's through one side and starting on the opposite one!
Awwe poor Pancho... That bird loves him!

Either he has himself a pirate captains bird or poor Pancho is going to be one lonely broken hearted birdy.

Let’s hope we don’t find a brood of very colorful little chicks running around up there 😬
Trimming up the keel as we speak. Mind you he wouldn't be as fast and exciting to watch as Leo wielding an adze! That is poetry in (speeded up) action!
One day Pellew and Tally Ho will meet up somewhere in port like old friends from another time.
I sure hope a "Jack London" appears out of the wood work, from these boats.
One hopes!
What do you call two sailboats within view of each other? A race!
Exactly.
Would be more fun seeing Leo and Luke meeting out in the open and (as it automatically happens every time between two Capt'ns ...) race the girls ...
I never get tired of listening to men like Luke. Salt of the earth, these men.
I am deeply grateful that such a skilled and knowledgeable man exists. A boat like this is a testimony to what makes humans unique in so many ways.
Thank you Leo for stepping in while I can't be there to document the progress! :-) Great to see how they are getting along and to see Luke being his old self! Cheers
🌟P E L L E W🌟 is magnificent!

Terrific video...thankyou Leo.

This one is great. Love the Pilot Cutters
Totally inspired, well said. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Luke and Leo!
Luke, I love your attitude on trees and their use as a crop .... brilliant, and more logical.
Yes, a renewable resource and carbon abating as well. Plant (and use) more trees, just don't cut the rainforest though !!
It is a great thought for managed forests. However for old growth forests its not great - some areas should be left as habitat
I don’t think the comment “load of bollocks” is appropriate as these people are highly skilled.

Anyone who has read the Horatio Hornblower books is familiar with Edward Pellew. Great name for a great boat.
