    A cult classic B movie that is perhaps the purest example of a B movie, Moontrap isn't a cheesefest of tounge-in-cheek sillyness that happens to be low budget, but rather a relatively serious movie about horrible alien robot things that intend to take over the Earth... which happens to have a budget well below what the vision needs to be realized with the standards we associate with serious films. However, they don't let that get in the way and still present a rather interesting look at a slice of movie history.

    Kudos to whoever recommended this one, I never see it mentioned anywhere.
    I remember seeing it on tbs and being absolutely thrilled by it as a kid. It took me forever to find someone who could recall the name from me describing the plot.
    And when I had trouble finding it I found that it was uploaded in its entirety to RUclips for free, so maybe nobody owns it.
    And I remembered that one guy died and the other got the girl, and seeing it as an adult and knowing who Bruce Campbell was I was sure it’d be him who lived. Wrong.

    Hi Decker. Awesome review. Technically Walter Koenig does have more sci-fi clout than Bruce Campbell having been both Pavel Chekov on Star Trek TOS and Alfred Bester on Babylon 5....oh, and we landed 6 LEMs on the moon, not just 2.....which really DOES make one wonder what those Moon robots were waiting for? I think the only show I can think of with a space truck stop was Futurama and you don't want to eat the egg sandwich from there. And maybe Spaceballs I can't remember if that was a diner or a truckstop-esque place for instance I work at a truck stop/restaurant/pizza place so it is actually more vague than you may think.

    Just noticed that Chekov & Ash's spacesuits are color-coded red and blue, which is repeated in the sequel.
    I've also been curious why the robot species bothers harvesting organic parts as the uses to which we see them put are always less effective that being 100% mechanical.

    • @marhawkman303
      @marhawkman303 Год назад

      My guess is that the low-budget props failed to properly communicate the idea that the organic parts were to make it more efficient in how it moves. Or at least compared to the other materials it has.

    I love this movie. Interesting bit of trivia, this movie came out in theaters one week before the Borg were introduced in Star Trek.
    Now I'm not saying that the Borg are a rip off of the Kaalium and the villains from Captain Power.........but they're totally a rip off of the Kaalium and the villains from Captain Power.
    The visual aesthetic alone invites comparisons, and then the Kaalium's tendency to salvage everything they come across to make cybernetic horrors. Yeah, this movie inspired Virus, the Borg, probably even the Necrons from 40K1, especially the Flayed Ones.
    And I stand by that claim.

    Video games may have taught us that shotguns can destroy an aircraft carrier at point-blank range, but before that 1980s -1990s action movies taught us that shotguns can hurl a man across a room with a point-blank shot, showing us that a shotgun has the equivalent force of a speeding truck ramming into someone. Perfectly logical pop culture evolution.

    Ash and Chekov.....the team up you never knew you wanted.....wait a mummy. I remember this one. Everyone else starts rapidly aging except Chekov cause the mummy caused him to s#@# his pants.....oh nope he's aging fast.
    in the debate between jaws vs alien. My grandpa always throws out the fact that the beaches saw a decrease in attendance. I point out that could be a coincidence. But if he insisted on using it. I get to use there was never another trip to the moon after alien. But if we sent Bruce we would probably already have a colony up there and a S Mart.
