@@aneelbhutta182 It's alright. The creatures are a cool take on the Morlocks. I think the movie had a bit of an identity crisis, though. The amnesia story and the monster story seemed like they originally were intended for two separate movies. They did a decent job in merging the two, but it could have been smoother, in my opinion.

This movie needed a lot more than that. A decent plot, a good script, a budget....I could go on but you get my point. It was Uwe Boll levels of trash and a female lead is the least of this movie's problems.

opinion of the first 1995 MK movie is divided, but most agree it is better than most movies based on video games... not so for the first Doom movie so... well, I haven't seen this one so I don't know if it's worse than MK Annihilation! probably shouldn't have called it Apocalypse either

Because to make a decent doom movie requires a somewhat degree of talent.
Literally because feminism. They just *had* to cast a "powerful female protagonist" where it would ultimately be detrimental to the whole plot and idea. I don't even have anything against women, but this is just not the franchise to shine a light on them in the slightest. Save that for Tomb Raider or Metroid or something.

@@pwnsage A female lead in a DOOM movie isn't an awful idea, the problem is when you try and override DoomGuy/Slayer instead of trying to give said female lead their own space to occupy, not saying they can't have her be a badass mofo but that can't be the only trait she has because that's DoomGuy's, maybe if they made her more of a tech type of person who instead of using brute force used a shitload of cool ass gadgets she could have her own place and be a mirror to DoomGuy

I honestly think it could be better if Amy Manson's character was a gender-bent stand-in for Jack from Doom 3, with her scientist friend as a stand-in for Counselor Swann (albeit as protagonists rather than supporters). But that's just me.
@@NebLleb Or turns out Betruger had been to hell before, he had tested it first. He was always demonic, but in Hell, he found a sarcophagus. Demons ordered him to take it back to Phobos, lock it up and do not open it, as inside contains "Doom" for Demon kind. Amy Manson finds it eventually by taking a keycard, and she opens it. A modern metal version of E1M1 begins to play as the familiar power armoured doom slayer leaps from the sarcophagus, grabbing a gun off a surviving Marine, and begins to mow down demons until he finds Betruger, to which he performs a glory kill by tearing off Betrugers head, spine included.
@@VadersFist95 Eh, I think my version would've been better. We already had a movie with Doomguy in it, I think the "Swann & Campbell" approach could've worked this time.
Either that, or they could've made this an unofficial prequel to the 2016 game, ending with Dark opening the sarcophagus that contains Stan "Doom Slayer" Blazkowicz as a last resort. Mainly because he's dealt with them before, and he's practically the only sane man.
Is it so hard to just make a doom film in the style of Hardcore Henry.
Or you now just adapt doom 3 and cut out some of the filler parts and you got yourself a 2 hour movie that writes itself

Yes cause that would require more effort and money then anyone making a doom movie is willing to put in.
Except there has to be a studio willing to chuck out the kind of budget that's gonna be for the shit ton of CGI that would be needed (especially for Hell) plus see if Bethesda and Id would be on board if it was based on the reboot. And considering how all the studios with that kind of money to spare would look at the box office revenue of the 2005 movie, you're more likely to get an animated Wolfenstein movie from Pixar than another big budget DOOM movie.
It would be fitting seeing as the First Person scene in the first Doom movie probably inspired Hardcore Henry, but if I want a First Person Doom experience...I'd just play the games, a good Doom movie in the normal movie format could work it just needs people who love the games backing and making it.
All they have to do is put a football player in a suit,give him a gun the size of a water heater,have doom metal blaring in the background,and have it all in first person.
Or, take Hardcore Henry and insert demons.

Basic Plot of Doom Franchise: Doomguy is an unnamed space marine who was put into service on Mars as security for the UAC after assaulting his superior officer for ordering his men to fire on civilians. Here the UAC is experimenting with teleportation and accidentally opens a gateway into Hell. This allows the demonic hordes to enter the facility, slaughtering everyone in sight. When Doomguys marine unit is called in to deal with the problem they are all killed while he survives because he had been ordered to stay behind. From then on Doomguy must fight his way through the UAC facility on Mars and Hell itself in order to prevent them from reaching Earth. Along the way, Doomguy arms himself with an arsenal of deadly weapons, including the legendary BFG.
Is it really that hard to turn this into a movie? I mean, the concept for Pacific Rim was pretty awesome but it was also simple: Giant Robots fighting Giant Monsters. The problem with both Pacific Rim and the Doom movies is they are set in the real-world when really the concepts alone don't fit into a real-life setting.
This is the plot of this film. Except instead of being stationed on Mars, they are being stationed on Phobos. I’m assuming b/c it was one less set to build. But in the end, the marines are being sent there as punishment, just like in the game. And the action eventually mirrors the fact that all the marines are killed except 1. Remember in the original Doom, your player is a meaningless grunt. He’s not special. He was left to guard the door while the real soldiers went inside.
The problem is ... for a movie that does not only appeal to Doom nerds, you need main characters with personalities, for the audience to relate to.
And that means already you have to make adaptions to the Doom Guy or Slayer character. You need other characters to interact with him, and all that means you cannot just copy paste the game to the movie.
Of course it is totally possible. But yep, do not set it in a “realistic“ universe. Go full demons in space. Keep the cast small enough, get a budget. Start slow, build up, go full hell on Mars later.
The concept of Doom is amazing for a great action horrormovie. But fans would need to accept an actual story and characters, and the studio needs to use the source material, without fear that demons and hell piss of religious idiots ...

2005 movie was fantastic compared to most video game movies and hell THAT one scene is freaking fantastic to this day

The 2005 film is still worst, this film for it's shit acting and zero budget is still a Doom movie and despite the gender swap follows the O.G game very closely. The 2005 had a large budget and really good actors and some how managed to fuck it all up.
My favourite quote from the DOOM: ETERNAL team is that tweet that simply stated "we have nothing to do with the movie"

The 2016 Doom game is practically set out like a fun movie. Just have Doomguy silent and always in the Praetor Suit. Have other characters from the game set out the films plot with just Doomguy killing demons as he ignores the films plot around him, one that he is an integral part of, Doomguy does plot stuff, but it's secondary to his want to kill as many demons as possible. Make some gags about that point as you can have it a video game movie with some meta comedic elements making fun out some of the absurdity of the games.
Have a survival horror based on the demons perspective as they try to survive Doomguy.

That’s literally the perfect description for what a DOOM movie should be!!!!!
It's crazy to imagine that the 1997 movie Event Horizon - made by someone who would later become one of the worst moviemaker of all time - even with all its huge production problems, cuts and studio interference still manages to be INFINITELY better at doing a movie about accidentally breaching into "Hell" than any Doom movie. And it still holds up as one of my all time favorite scifi horror movie more than 20 years later.

The only real way to play Doom Guy is to scream all the time until you physically cannot scream anymore and then use the pain in your throat to feed into the expression of anger while having your previous screams' audio run at the same time to give the impression that you are still screaming.
Or just go with the route of DOOM 4 where he is so pissed off he doesn't scream, he just rips and tears with his bare hands.

Here's the easiest plot that would have made this an actually good movie.
Set it in the doom 4 phobos base before the awakening of the doom slayer as the members of the base begin to figure out something is wrong with the leadership. Then have it as a hopeless attempt of survival against the demonic horde.

Naming him Betruger is bad in this movie, and it was bad in Doom 3. You pointing out the bad guy's name was Betruger in Doom 3, means nothing other than it was bad there as well.

@@JaniacTheHedgehog Doom 3 had good points in it, yes. It was certainly not hot garbage like Doom-in-name-only Annihilation.
It was bad, as in worse than previous Doom games, but it wasn't bad as in it was actually a bad game. It just didn't match its predecessors in overall quality. I'd still recommend it to people who wanted an experience closer to what Doom 3 offered than other Dooms.
Hell, I don't mind the idea of a horror themed Doom game.
I would actually really like what Doom 4 was originally going to be. I wouldn't mind a "Doom spin-off" where you play as a badass soldier of ARC fighting against the Hell invasion in the early days of it.
Have it be horror themed as well. Sure, you're a badass soldier who can mow down waves of Imps, but a Hell Knight will rip you to shreds, kind of thing.
Pinkies, Hell Knights, Mancubi... those Demons would be far above your ability to reasonably kill.
Maybe have a Pinkie as a boss? Have it chase you relentlessly through a building and at the end you lead it into a trap, letting it throw itself down an elevator shaft to it's death?
Fuck yeah, I'd love that. Horror Doom games are very much possible, and I wouldn't mind seeing it done. So long as it was done with a lot of care and effort, and the creators knew what they wanted to make and how to make it.

My personal headcanon is the scientists are all really Vault Tec and this whole thing takes place between Fallout & Elder Scrolls or at least the new game explaining the rips in space by the time of the post-apocalyptic Elder Scrolls and The Deadric realm is just a hell-like dimension

You know I haven't watched Birds of Prey, yet but it's like that they got a Black woman that looks like Huntress playing Black Canary and a White woman that looks like Black Canary play Huntress. I don't get why they race washed the characters, especially when all they had to do was swap the actresses and put a blonde wig on one of them, I'm black btw. Also, I don't get why they added BoP, with no Bat-Fam established.

Actually the actress they got to play Black Canary actually looks more like Cat Woman Selina Kyle, an arguably more popular character, who in the past has been played by various ethnicities ethnicities, and I also really not sure of her race just by looking at her in the comics. I just have superficial knowledge lol, which the people should at least have. I mean I'm not an avid comicbook reader, expert or anything, which at least the people that worked on this is movie probably similar too, and they couldn't even get minor details right. Point is you ain't got be an expert, at least try to be faithful to the source material. Like I know Harley and the Joker had 2 hyenas, not just 1 why? Make it 2, or not include any at all in it. Long answer and my bad for any misspells/bad grammar, lol.

What is it about doom guy that is so hard to do? If you want to make a movie based off a game, don't pick the worst one.
Actually I think Doom IS rather hard to do as a movie. 'Cos it's a game that focuses on near constant violence with a rather thin story. Which is fine when you're playing it but quickly becomes dull when you're just watching.

Decker,I love the way you do what you do man,you're my favorite horror movie reviewer,I like your voice,it makes me feel warm,safe,and nostalgic,like nothing else in the worlds happening,and everything's going to be alright,it's hard to explain the full extent to how I feel watching your reviews,but it's like an exiting feeling like when you were young and couldn't wait to get back to your new toy at home. Like no one else knew about it and you could lock yourself away from the world and leave your troubles behind and time seized to move. Not to mention I very much enjoy your brand of comedy. And you see movies so much differently than I do or many do,almost like the horror gleam in your eye never wore off. You got me intrested in seeking out the nightmare on elm street saga. Either one, the point is, the people writing the dialogue didn't know much about the source material, and probably shouted down advice from people who DID understand Doom, claiming they'd worked on scripts before, and CLEARLY knew what they were doing.

@Mr. Retard that wasn't the Doom Slayer. This guy looked like the guy from Doom 1 & 2. Doom 3 had some different guy who looked nothing like him. The Doom Slayer is specific to Doom (2016) and the upcoming Doom Eternal.
In terms of story and stuff I would rather the 2016 Doomslayer did not make it into any movies.

There's a particular scene where Doomgal goes through the portal and ends up in hell right, then the main demon dude addresses her by her name as if she's somehow part of the prophecy, cringy stuff but i was hoping they'd turn the whole thing around by i don't know maybe implementing Doom guy to the rescue. When you think about it would've made this film 10x better if they just showed that Doomguy is alive and fighting in hell during that scene, saving her by Rip n tearing the hords of demons chasing her but nah that'll be too much badassery for the soy boys who made this film.

According to the creators "Doomguy's" real name is William Blazkowicz III, he's Wolfenstein Blazkowicz's decendant.
Gosh this was forgettable and lame. I always liked the Doom 2005, I think its underrated...well not underrated just decent. You had better characters, funny quotes, good soundtrack especially during FPS scene, Karl Urban kicking ass and better monster designs from Stan Winston's team. Yeah it has problems, I just wish they followed the game a bit more. Be like Hotel Inferno but with a better budget. The new Doom is a complete waste of time, oh well, what did you expect from the director of Soccer Dog? This one didn't even have a FPS scene....BOOOO!! BOOOO!! And don't add the word Annihilation, it doesn't end well.
Im just a sucker for any horror movie that involves a team of soldiers fighting monsters. There is quite a few of them some good (dog soldiers) some not so good (doom) but i love them all

So, why is this movie that came out in 2019 loosely based on Doom 3 from 2004? You had a perfectly good reboot in 2016 to adapt!
Universal studios which made this movie didn't have the movie rights for DOOM 2016.But they did have the rights to DOOM 1-3.This still doesn't excuse the quality of annihilation
