Here's a true story. I raised my kids in the techno-world. That's right I am just like the grandfather in real life, that is in this video. Brought my kids up with video games, how to tear computers apart, diagnose issues and rebuild. My wife left long ago. Technology was a way to get through to my kids. Two of them have master's degrees, one is in trades after 6 years of college. All three own their homes and have great jobs. Now I am playing video games with their children. When the older generation such as me, ridiculed me for my involvement. Just take a look now where it led me. Where it took my children. Where it is taking my grandchildren. This is a great video because it literally is so much like my own life. Take time for your kids people. Learn to relate to them. Spend the time. I have had a lot of fun along the way :-)
I never had a game console, but managed to build my own computer from scrap, and the scrap HD I got was full of videogames and other kinds of games. Like 200 in total. Then my children could play those games; me, I was left little time to play. But my children wouldn't want to learn anything technical like tear computers apart or build them. My surprise was that my young daughter finally learned to install Linux and drivers from her friends, and now translates very big companies' technical documents. And as she wants to learn new things, she asked me to teach her mathematics and electronics, and so I did what she asked. Edit: grammatical correction, wrong verb tense (this is not my first language)
@@wafikiri_ yes this is what I'm talking about. You know for yourself! It is excellent that we involve ourselves in teaching our children. From my generation which came off the poor Farms we worked so dreadfully hard. I was bound and determined not to see my kids suffer this fate. I thank God for that inspiration. In the winter time I still play Skyrim a lot.. along with others. One of my children is a computer tech for a big company. Has two bachelor's degrees and a masters. My youngest has a masters. Oldest one is in Tech also. Bravo my friend. We can thank God that our children made it through the hustle of adolescence and learning
My absolutely adorable Grandpa used to say "I'm here if you need me. I'm at your disposal." I wish I would have appreciated it more when I was little. He was always kind & very generous. Looking back, I wish I would have realized what a treasure he was while he was still alive.😟 I LOVE YOU GRANDPA RUPP 🤗💗🙏🕊️
I am 57 years old, survived both a stroke AND a heart attack, yet video this sort of hits home with me!!! Back just a few years ago my grandchildren would come to visit me all the time, when they were still pretty much young! These days I don't see them as much as I do....and many of them are gamers as well!! Don't get me wrong when I was a kid the Atari 2600 was a "new device" and I was insanely good at playing video games!! Even years later I moved into a Playstation 2 and still played a number of games I enjoyed!! These days though I not sure I could keep up in the VR world and I am slowly falling behind in the "game world" these kids understand far better than I do!! Though as far as technology goes, I still have an edge over my grand kids, when speaking about computers, there are things they know far better that I do!! I guess my point is, is that it is coming to that realm where if I want to spend time with my grandchildren, I too would have to go "Virtual", but honestly at what cost?? Though I doubt that I would let me grand kids turn me into a "female game presence" (I still do understand how to change settings in games myself), I honestly have nothing at all in common with my aging grandchildren these days!! In fact my one grand daughter who I was the closest too, is now 16 years old, dating and has NO time for an old fart at all like me!! And my one Grandson lives nearly 2000 miles away, and I haven't actually "sat down and played with him" since about 4 years ago when he was just 6 years old!!! I called him on the phone and he couldn't even spend ten minutes talking to me, without be distracted!!
This is so well done, on so many levels! The fact that there's a great distance between the older & younger generations now. The way that video games are so common & how the violence in them can be upsetting to those unfamiliar with these types of games. How he boys feels forgotten in his home & how his online community fills that void. Ultimately the grandpa & grandson connecting in the virtual world just tie the whole short together. Bravo 👏
This has got to be among the best projects DUST has ever posted, and I've seen just about all of them. In the end, about the most important thing that a young kid can hear, from his from his grandpa . . . supersedes anything that can possibly be experienced in the virtual world. That moment will be remembered, for life. Excellent production, very well put together.
I wish I has a grandpa like that when I was growing up...I wish I had a grandpa actually, one died before I was born, the other when I was 5. I didn't get much from my parents apart of been ignored and dismissed with everything I did. Because of that I feel I'm not complete. Sorry to be a pain people, seen the grandpa give the kid a direction to look towards in moments of need broght a tear in my eyes. Yes just one, for me it's a river.
I would like to congratulate the production team and the cast for a story that has a deeper meaning and have a truly valuable lesson that we as parents should learn. We should spend more quality time with our kids and not quantity time with our kids... Reading all the comments and one comment by the '70s Tune stood out for me because this is a production I can relate to. My father was that true old-school type and I spend many hours teaching him how to navigate Windows 95. He loved the card games and he would battle for hours trying to play these games with the mouse. Now as a father of five-year-old triplets girls we are spending every weekend playing games on consoles and cell phones. And one day I will be like that old grandpa playing with my grandchildren games. Once again if there are parents that watched this short, please spend quality time with your kids, I know it's sometimes impossible, but time lost with your kids can't be regained. And as for the younger generation please be patient with us older generation because when you hit your 40s and older then believe me you wish you could have those days back. Thank you once again for such a meaningful production and once again Dust managed to deliver a well-produced production. Wish youtube had a rating system because I would have given this 5 stars for sure.
This reminds me of my grandson and myself. I have not played a game system in a whole lot of years. I bought one so when he came over, we could spend some time doing something he loves to do. Trying to show Mema what button to push was most of the afternoon.
Никогда не думал что увижу в каком-нибудь фильме пожилого человека, играющего в видеоигры. По крайней мере, такое продолжительное время и с таким погружением в игру))) - - - I never thought that I would see an elderly man playing video games in some movie. At least for such a long time and with such immersion in the game)))
Loved it. Especially when mom broke in and made the avatars act their ages - that is of boys and not the tough guys they depicted of themselves in the game. Thanks
Beautiful story that a person can relate to in these times we are in ! Grand-paws are the glue that keep the grandchildren in the famiy................
OMG, one of the best films I have watched! The sound design and story was told perfectly! I love how this film as so much emotion and action in and seeing the granddad fight in the game being so determined was brilliant! The ending was very heart warming to watch and made me feel so much empathy! I enjoyed watching this so much and this truly is a stunning film!
Well when I was that kid's age, we didn't have this tech, no allergies, I couldn't even afford a 10 dollar used bike I had to knock on doors and cut grass just to eat! - get off my Lawn! ... very well put together, memories is all we have in the end...
Well done! Simple and brilliant decision to show the full face 'inside' the goggles for the "real" actors! I think that the makers of "Ready Player One" should consult with YOUR TEAM if they decide to do a sequel! Keep at it, you are doing great work!!!
I read the title wrong and I got all excited thinking it was a short about the game "dead space" the horror video game franchise. I kept expecting to see mutated people pop out at the players. I still liked the storyline though. And it did have a nice message.
What a perfect peice of work, channeling to my childhood,I never had a relationship with my grandparents, but to tie in this generation we have now, I hope this generation will listen to their elders like I did growing up. Our families grow and whither so fast,we must keep the love alive, from the next born to the ones that left us all. Again Dust, such a beautiful work of art. Peace be with you guys.
Amazing. The ending was awesome. Never got to meet my Grandma but got to meet my Grandpa and he was the most loving person I ever knew. Great way to fuse technology with family and made the young boy connect with his Grandfather in an interesting way. Glad I decided to watch this. Made me tear up a little bit thinking of my Grandpa as well. Kudos to the writers.
Every generation has its own challenges for connection. This presentation is excellent. Sometimes, getting uncomfortable in unfamiliar surroundings is the path that leads to meaningful connection. Beautifully presented!
Such a great film!! I could see myself in there with my grandkids, I'm terrible at video games!! And this expresses how much these generations need each other. 💯
Again, Dust presents us with another movie short that tries a totally new storyline but in the VR world. A grandson and grandfather getting to know each other while playing a VR game. Another great movie short from Dust.
I liked the sensitive aspect with their relationship. I love scifi, but they are always so dark. You often leave with feelings of hopelessness for humanity. I like a good ending.
All my grandkids live several hours away and playing video games is one of the ways we get to interact between visits so this one really touched me.....

I love playing VR with my grandsons. We play Population One and Onward and other games using our Oculus Quest headsets. I’m not as fast as I used to be so I die a lot. But it’s a great way for me to spend time with my grandsons. Even before VR we played Minecraft and my other grandson and I played Borderlands 2 and 3. I had troubles up to the very last minute, to judge whether the avatars were cgi or real actors. I get it, they are actors, but amazing makeup. Also: amazing story. Very relatable.
I’m always in awe at the awesome movies on this platform!!! This one really just blew me away!! Dust needs to do a BTS on how these projects come to light!! This one was brilliant!! Wow...I almost called this a sad story, but it turned around and made me happy! I'm going to assume that what Tim is hoping to do at the end will actually happen.
A lot of people ask me, "Who's gonna take care of you when you're old?" because I've never had any kids. I have no doubt that the many, many children who call me auntie (by blood and bond) will be around to spend time with me. I invest in these kids futures. I try to be that person who they can come to no matter what. I've have many of them ask me if I'm REALLY a grown up over the years. Never fails to touch me. They see grown ups as too busy, not interested in their stuff, never playing. So they can't believe I'm one of them. I've had a couple of them stop playing fantasy games (last time it happened I was playing a ninja princess with a magic ring) to inform me that it's not actually real. I always disagree and tell them magic is real. Even my nephew sitting on my lap when I'm in the fridge getting him food and reading the labels with him so he knows what's what is super rewarding to me lol. He loves when I read things to him. No one takes the time to read him labels. He's not in school yet but he's curious and I am absolutely obsessed with and ruled by curiosity so I try to foster that in pretty much everyone I interact with. You literally cannot be bored or run out of things to do if you've got curiosity.
This happens alot in real life . People connecting over a video game . Im still waiting on the day that a country wages war on another country and people stand up and say , "im not attacking that country, I have play station friends over there"
I was prepared to post how much of a brat lil’ Timmy was and the same for Billy was as well; then there’s the moment at the end of the game where Tim has a IRL 180° redemption arc. This was sweet and very unique.
Amazing and creative! I loved when the character of Billy stood still and his mom took away the controller and his character did random stuff. 😂 You had to be high to come up with those ideas. Great
Yes, technology can bring us together. I talked to my son more (every night) on FB messenger when he went away to Harvard than I did when he lived in my home (as a teenager).

Reading all the comments and yours I can relate. It's so true that it literally made me feel very emotional.
Video games aren't the way to truly connect. Go outside and play. Be there in person, not this "on the line" crap.
Nothing beats human contact with people you love

Wholesome. It shows that technology seems soulless, distant and harsh at first, but it doesn't actually have to be bad, or keep people apart.
How wonderful.
The FPS game is reproduced without using CG.
I was also impressed by the reproduction of the surrealistic behavior of Avatar.
I've seen this before, but it's good enough to watch all the way through again.

Wonderful piece, Thank You very much

I know, right 🤣. He let us down. But it was still a great story.
I never miss any of your films and This one is by far the most impressive film DUST film creators has produced. brough tears to my eyes. Thank you xx
Bro that hug in the end 😂😂😂😂
I am speechless. Wow wow wow. Hollywood, you can just step aside. This genre, hosted by DUST is amazing. A superb performance in acting, storyline, the whole 9 yards. Well done DUST! Thank you for such great content.
DUST is for the chrome domes. So Hollywood doesn’t need to step aside.

This was awesome! I have watched many Dust projects, but this rates as one of the best I've seen.
Wasn't sure which way this one was going, seemed like it was heading towards a dark ending. Very well done, thank you for making and posting this.
This needs to be a mini series
Great Vid. These are the type we all need, to know someone cares. Thanks Dust!
It has been said that grandparents and grandkids share a common enemy that together they can overcome: out-of-touch parents.;)
excellent! gramps nailed it.
Man.. This movie is good..
Loved it!!!
This was fantastic. Thank you.
Great story guys. Absolutely amazing!!
Maybe an ultra-violent FPS game isn't the best one to play with your grandpa when he can't handle the excitement? (grin) I suspect they'll be playing it again over Spring Break, though!
So much depth, and I wanna play too
Very wholesome. Made my lunchtime better. Thanks.
This was absolutely amazing
Brilliant!! 👍👍
Wow, that last part really got to me, well done !
This is so sweet and heart warming, proof that scfi can deliver human connections!

Beautiful !!!

Very touching, and a connection is most important.
This happens alot in real life . People connecting over a video game . Im still waiting on the day that a country wages war on another country and people stand up and say , "im not attacking that country, I have play station friends over there"
@Amy Taylor 👋😁 hello over there . Back at you. I hope your having a amazing day 🙈 sending good vibes your way
I was prepared to post how much of a brat lil’ Timmy was and the same for Billy was as well; then there’s the moment at the end of the game where Tim has a IRL 180° redemption arc. This was sweet and very unique.
Excellent !!!
@Amy Taylor yes.
Thank You🔄
Amazing and creative! I loved when the character of Billy stood still and his mom took away the controller and his character did random stuff. 😂 You had to be high to come up with those ideas. Great
xD
Great story I reared up!
Awesome 10 out of 10 in my book 🔥 🔥 🔥 we need part 2 😀😀😀 👏 👏 👏
I really liked this one!
Yes, technology can bring us together. I talked to my son more (every night) on FB messenger when he went away to Harvard than I did when he lived in my home (as a teenager).

Interesting. Clearly shows what kids are really learning from/in video games.
