      There are currently about 8.1bn living humans. Of those, the individual who has devoted more effort than any other toward the goal of depriving Russians, Ukrainians -- and (if he has his way) everyone else too -- of the chance to benefit from living under relative democracy is now complaining that he has encountered a deficiency of democratic legitimacy within Ukraine.

    'Fasc/st regime with fasc/ist society' is a good way to describe russia today. And the reason is in my opinion the inability to convert russians into selfless warrior ants as the fasc/sts and national soc/alists could do. You need a charismatic firebrand preacher politician for that, and neither Putin nor any of his apparatchiks are capable of that - which is another fortunate case for us. Solovyov has some skills in that direction, but he and his propaganda don't seem to have the same prominent role Goebb/s had had under H/tlers regime 90 years ago.

    My own two cents on the idea of fascism: its definition is often overly complicated to insulate the definer from fitting the definition.Definitions are too often a partisan and not a scholarly attempt, even among scholars. The problem is not whether Zelensky is legitimate or not. The problem is that when a peace treaty is concluded, both sides can then refer to the illegitimacy of these treaties. This is a big problem, but there is still a long way to go and I hope this will not be used as a casus belli.

    • @tinnasell4161
      @tinnasell4161 4 месяца назад +1

      Honestly when one of the parties is Russia even the legitimacy of the treaty does not matter. We've seen more than once, more than twice that Russia can ignore any agreement if it pleases so. No excuses are required. As for other countries that may judge the legitimacy of the potential peace treaty, I think they may deem it legitimate, if not to wrap things up then because technically Zelensky remains legitimate during wartime under the law.
      The election as of now may not be possible, not just because some people may not be able to vote (this problem can actually be solved via the system of electronic elections that Zelensky wanted to adopt) but because the election process itself requires time. This may create a situation where the country may not have a functional head of the state for a while. Not to mention the political tensions between parties involved in the election process. This is the time of vulnerability which Russia will gladly exploit, just like back in 2014. The fact that we even have this conversation signals Putin's desire to cause destabilisation.
      As I recall, Ukrainians were discussing the election problem last year. Some individuals even expressed their willingness to participate in the election as potential candidates, including the infamous adviser Arestovich and Zelensky's wife. Back then it was already established that the election is unlikely to be held due to war, and the public kinda agreed. The corresponding articles of the Constitution were cited (I do not remember which number though). People did not like the fact that they were stuck with one dude but did not particularly hate it either, as Putin's action disturbed them more. This was the impression I've got. So, I don't know what Putin will accomplish by spreading this narrative. He's kinda late

      @EvgeniyYakushev-m2u 4 месяца назад

      @@tinnasell4161 For example, what agreements did Russia violate?
      You cannot remember, because there are no such articles in the constitution. Zelensky’s wife and Arrestovich are not the opposition. In principle, there is no opposition in Ukraine now. Zaluzhny, who was gaining popularity, was fired and sent as ambassador to Britain (if I remember correctly).
      Was there any point in discussing the elections last year? If they are this year. Well, Putin is not too late. I have already said that in the 20th, according to the constitution, Zelensky was supposed to resign.
      I myself don’t see the point in elections in Ukraine, but this narrative will work. It is not for you, it is for Ukrainians. Zelensky’s real ratings are not high and it’s only a matter of time.
      P.S. I didn't notice that you are from Ukraine. Westerners usually answer. Only sympathy for you and a speedy end to the conflict. You don’t have to answer; our opinions will most likely differ greatly.

      @@EvgeniyYakushev-m2u I agree on many points with you. Zelensky's wife and Arestovich are not the opposition, it is true. They are basically Zelensky's people and their participation in the election will show his unwillingness to give up power. I've only mentioned them as an example of talks being conducted. My personal impression is that Zelensky is obsessed with image, and uses this war as a leverage in maintaining power. For this reason, I'm sceptical of an election being held. Zelensky is a year ahead in making propaganda regarding his legitimacy, and honestly, I don't know if I want risking destabilisation as of now. On the other hand, I would gladly pick someone else. The opposition still exists, though not active and partly swept to the side of the road. I guess whether or not he resigns depends on whether an active candidate emerges to replace him.
      Thanks for you kind words. These two years were so stressful and the potential election only adds to that.
