Brilliant arrangement, sung magnificently. How wonderful to hear Dom's solo voice. He's come into his own quickly. The beauty of VOCES8 is everything we need right now. Bravo, and thank you!!
Oh, how the bass solo catches one by glorious surprise, and how subtly, gently, and beautifully the other voices rejoin! Blake! so lovely from start to finish!
This work is a stunning example of Blake's impressive talent, and the always impressively exquisite balance and blend of VOCES8 bring every precious note to life magnificently. The individual soloists' voices are pure pleasure and executed to true lyrical perfection. As with all their exceptional offerings, I am totally swept away with this beautiful presentation, something which is always 'gifted to us all' by VOCES8!
Barnaby is the quintessential choral singer. Among all the many voces8 recordings I have listened to, I have never once been able to separate his voice from the general texture. That even includes this piece, where the altos sing a phrase all by themselves, just the two of them.. He and Katie are ONE VOICE. (Maybe it's jiust me.)
Barnby is a Prima Dona who craves the limelight. His facial distortions are an absolute distraction and whenever he conducts, whilst singing along with the group, he ruins the optics every time with his affective gyrations. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if several of the more recent resignations by some wonderful singers are due to Barnaby's ego issues.
@@kennethjones-vt7kv I don't know if you experienced him as a conductor in the choir. I have. And I can assure you that none of your assumptions are correct.
I have also had the honor to work with him, and he is, in my opinion, one of the best conductors of the present day. Not only regarding choirs, but also orchestral. He gives you so much when he conducts, in fact he gives you all he has and is, even on a bad day. You can absolutely rely on his knowledge, energy and musicianship at any given moment. Regarding his singing, I, too, could very often not distinguish his voice from Katie's in the V8 recordings (except when he had a rare solo part). But luckily he has done some solo recordings recently, of Händel and Bach, which are marvellous. His voice definitely deserves more recognition. As a counter he never sounds effeminate, but virile and pure at the same time. He certainly ranks with the leading counters of this day (Orlinsky, Cenčic). And, though he's certainly aware of his talents and proud of his achievements (which he has every reason to be), he is NOT self-centered at all, but one of the kindest and most sociable persons I know! (Sorry, B, but had to be said)
The pure, clear tones, exquisite precision, transcendent beauty, and oh-so-rare perfectly personable professionalism of Voces8 lead my eyes to the path of Light and cause the dross in life to fall away. They restore me to the Goal, the Vision. I seek them for this very thing. They upraise.
Awesome to hear this norwegian carol! Amazing to hear and it gave me goosebumps. And funny to hear someone else try out the norwegian language, nearly perfect but i hear that you are used to sing german and it seeps through with the vowels, but the consonats where spott on.
Oh My Goodness this is so beautiful! Lovely to hear the altos singing together as one.. and Dominic, what a delight to hear that wonderfully deep and creamy bass voice! As usual Bake you don’t disappoint, what a beautiful and sensitive arrangement. Happy New Year to the full Voces8 family. Looking forward to many more RUclips performances in 2024.❤
Always a joy, also to hear the different voices. First time I heard your wonderful bass solo! Wishing all of you the very best for New Year❤ and hopefully I will be able listening to you all in a concert!
Dear Voces8! Thank you for performing «Mitt hjerte alltid vanker» in Norwegian! The Palestinian singer RimBanna also sang this in Arabic, and now I want you to do it in Arabic in honnor of her. She died in 2018 I want you to come here and sing it in the medival church of the Hvaler islands close to Sweden. The Hvaler chuch is probably the oldest in Norway (about 1000years) and it has a good acustics. I live here in Hvaler.
I think Blake uses dissonances but no microtonal steps in this one. If you want to hear Voces8 in microtonal spheres listen to Jacob Collier’s “Home Is”.

Dominic's voice is superb! I'm so happy to get a chance to listen him "sing solo" for a little bit 😅.
Amazing bass, how sweet the sound. Great job guys, as usual.

Stated very well. I could not agree more.
Ohhh. My heart. So beautiful!!! ❤ Hearing the angels sing first thing in the morning is good for the mood.
God jul! En av favoritt julesangene/salmene mine. Imponert over uttalelse og fremføring!
