You put unbelievable faith into your equipment there man, I mean Ive run off mountains with expired parachutes attached to homemade harnesses for fun with complete confidence but pushing a gyro like this is seriously next level - most amazing of all is the lifting ability of this gyro to carry such big cahoonas
Yes I think its a pretty powerful two stroke around 100hp. Carry some pretty big balls with a light high hp engine. I think he's wearing shorts to keep em cool, they must be that active they'd ignite or explode if kept in trousers. Brave man.
There's just something about going inverted in an open cockpit with a spinning blade just a foot away from your skull that makes the anus pucker. Never seen gryocopter acrobatics, cool shit dude.
I've seen countless flight videos, and the spectacular means humans have concocted to move through the air-from seeing suits to rockets. This video I randomly came across is the most epic video I have ever seen. I am blown away. You are one with your machine.
TRUE about being 110% in tune with his machine! First time I saw his "show" - I covered my eyes, many times believing "This would not end well"!! - after several conversations with him & looking over his highly modified gyro ...and watching many of his displays since ..I have utmost respect! Although I fear others with far less skills may try to emulate such advanced maneuvers WITH-OUT the proper aerobatic FEEL & knowledge!
Nice video. I hope Barry will be at Bensen Days 2023. I've done some gyro flying with my friend Greg Spicola over the years but just recently decided to get my gyro license. I'm the very lucky winner of the recent PRA raffle of the single seat Dominator. I'm also very lucky that I live in Tampa Florida and have a wealth of knowledgeable and experienced gyro guys at my fingertips. Can't wait for Bensen Days 2023.
I'm surprised he can get off the ground with balls that big. That's the most dangerous thing I've ever seen and he's doing it effortlessly . My hat is off for him!
That was an interesting view of Barry doing his stuff. As always a great routine to watch, seemingly effortless and way beyond what most gyro pilots will...or should attempt. Barry is certainly in a class of his own when it comes to this sort of a display. A few come close, Greg Spicola is one Roy Davis another, then that gent who was doing Lawn Dart impressions with the new ELA at Bensen Days...which I believe did catch Barry's attention when he went along for a ride.🙂. Great flying Barry. Unique view Gerald.
Greg is a good friend of mine. After seeing Barry at Bensen Days this year I asked Greg if he could do all of those stunts. He said yes but, why. Had me laughing for a few minutes.
Anything that can be flown this way, hundreds of hours to 'get it right' in practice, and the operator is still alive to perform it seemingly effortlessly... Convinces me that these machines are not 'flimsy death traps'. Knowing the physics and being 'connected' with the machine may have something to do with it.. LOL. Awesome video Gerald.
Very impressive camera-view! Still gives me the willy's watching that ...but after in-depth conversation with the pilot at B-Days ...I'm not as scared for him as I was the first time I saw that routine!
No lol, most everyone in the gyro community knows this is a special pilot that knows his gyro as well. Same as a fixed wing pilot knows his airplane. This guy was also a fixed wing pilot way before he was a gyro pilot.
Some people are not gyro people so it does look intimidating or more dangerous than it really is. Etc. Also, this pilot can fly airplanes in a similar way.
@@GyroGerald Yes, there are a lot of gyrocopters in Russia, but mostly they are heavy. Because we use car engines more often. In Russia, a gyroplane is more often used for work and not for entertainment. Especially in winter, when all water bodies freeze and you can easily land or take off from any lake or river. You can catch one fish weighing 15-20 kg. And sometimes more. And also use the delivery and rest. But in our country, few people post their videos on RUclips because they fly almost illegally. In our country, no one controls and does not look after small aircraft, the main thing is not to fly in, not to fly over closed objects. Of all the American channels, yours is the most spectacular, but the only thing I would like is more comments From you.
@@КонрадКарлович-ъ3я what types of work are gyros used for in Russia? That's very interesting. Here in Australia they are sometimes used for mustering animals on large properties.

I've built and flew gyrocopters back in the 1970s and early 1980s. This guy is really tempting fate. That's without a parachute too because it would do him no good. It would just get caught up in the rotor if still intact.

How is he filming this ? The camera must be on a long stork off the port front, and is obviously on a gimble, but I can’t see how it is attached to the machine.
Hello Gerald, I am also a swiss gyroplane pilot for a few years, and watching your video is a wonderful piloting lesson, very precise and wonderfully informative, thank you! Can I ask you what is the model of this machine and what is its power? thanks again and soft landings
Impressive, and an appealing concept. But I am a fixed wing guy. I can't help it, my nervous system immediately focuses on the flimsy construction keeping the rotor in place, carrying everything else. Has the concept ever been tested against a bird strike? Would a parachute be of any help above 50 meters (150 feet)?
Yup. Had to watch that a few times. My gawd. Just for fun watch his feet on the rudder pedals. It tells a lot about what he is doing. It is not what you would do in a fixed-wing and certainly not like anti-torque pedals on a helicopter. Gonna have to watch again.
Virtually every video I've watched of 'gyrocopters' demonstrates a high level of rotor/cyclic vibration. I hold flight certifications in both military rotary-wing and civil fixed-wing high performance retractable single and multi-engine airplanes. Autorotation is supposed to be the most stable flight envelope of rotary flight - but apparently not for gyroplanes. I've never encountered such vibration in any turbine helicopter I've flown in or out of combat or general aviation.
All gyroplanes do this, some just do it more than others, its called dissymmetry of lift in autogyro causing cyclic vibration. The rotors are fixed angle and do not adjust as the rotate. Plus the wimd blowing through them causes rotation whereas in a helicopter the rotors are powered and adjust angle. Trust me tjat was one of my first concerns when i started gettimg interestef in gyros. I thought somethimg us wrong here with this setup, but there are things that csn help reduce cyclic movement.
