DE has way faster gameplay, but SS4 has more enemies to dance with
More doesn't automatically mean better. DE has significantly higher and better variety in both types of enemies and enemy encounters and it forces you to adjust your strategy on the fly. The only strategy (if you can even call that) in any SS game is "I see crapload of enemies -> I use whatever high-tier weapon that has the most ammo". In fact, in later stages of EVERY SS game, you only need 3 weapons: minigun, laser gun and rocket launcher. And that's it. If I wanted to play game with such gameplay I could just play Pankiller with level design that puts entire SS pentalogy to shame.
@@Terepin64 the "I need to use only rocket launcher, minigun and laser gun" Is false.. alright maybe ss2. But in SS4 we have the headshot mechanic and dual wield which made other weapons way more useful. The sIngle shotgun was pretty much useless later in early games, but now dual single shotguns are way more useful than dbs because of way less bullet spread, it really helps against the vampires. Sniper rifle also became more useful because of the headshot mechanic, witch brides can die of one headshot easily which makes it really useful. Grenade launcher can be useful if you have horde of processed or gnaars running after you you can fire some grenades in the air and use the cluster upgrade and more than twenty mini grenades will completely clear everything. I agree that the gameplay can feel braindead at times compared to the classics with gadgets, but saying it's braindead all the time is not true
@@kekovii All this new features are worthless when finishing the game doesn't require them to be used. Which only shows just how much they wanted to please the fanboys and stick with their "old-school shtick" while to bring something new. The result is a mutant that doesn't know what it wants to be.
@@Terepin64 I don't undestand what's good about developers forcing players to do something that game has. People didn't like the fact that you can't skip the mech section in Vatican without using bugs or cheats, would like to see how people would react if they were forced to use gadgets. Players are playing the game how they want, why is it a bad thing? It's better to give the some freedom to their actions instead of "use this chainsaw not because you feel satisfying to kill this enemy, but just because you need ammo"
@@kekovii If the game has something that is not required to be used, then that's lost time, energy and money. Furthermore, CT didn't managed even at that, because gadgets are unbalanced as hell; they make the game a joke even at serious difficulty.

Doom Eternal = mostly fight in tight spaces , small group of enemies
fast paced gameplay
Serious Sam = most gameplay fight in open areas , large group of enemies and more if increase enemy multiplier in custom difficulty **
** x2 on Serious is fine amount of enemies is fair enough challenge
and x2 on Normal-Serious give double ammo capacity to same as default Tourist , Easy
(Feels like playing SS1 on Serious because it's double ammo)
but if you want more chaos go x5 to x11 enemy multiplier XD
im stuck in vatican bossfight with 11x enemy multiplier on hard difficulty using as less gadgets as i can
x11 even on Tourist it's boring as hell it take an hour per level (and longer if do all side missions) I get tired quickly

SS4 classic formula still works better after beating Eternal on the nightmare i didn't feel the need to go back again and play it ... same like Doom 2016 Serious Sam feels more traditional which I like ... still the original Doom when moded is far superior to any new releases that bear their names and definitely better than serious sam in terms of level design and combat

doom has insane and brutal combat that i like, but man, the visual effects are making me sick, i have both games, 2016 and eternal, i can't play it...
DOOM 2016 > SS4 > DOOM Eternal
And DOOM 2 IS THE BEST. Doom Eternal is not a Shooter game, felt like a Fighting game in a form of FPS.

I don't know how to feel about SS4.... I loved the first and second encounter - finished those atleast 10 times by now. But while pretty SS4 (and before first encounter) just feel... Meh? With levels not exactly memorable. And certain design decisions being pretty bad in general.

@@amspook some maps seem barren, lighting inside buildings is weird, they kept some reloading weapons from ss3 - and i personally dislike that, character models and certain secrets felt meh and idk... Certain aspects felt rushed in general.
It's not that i hate the game btw. I still quite enjoyed it. However i still prefer ss first and second encounter way more. And Doom Eternal was my game of the year for 2020 - cuz i found it just that much fun to replay and master.

The reloading part is the thing that I really want it removed.
Map design are wayyyy better than SS3 but still not that great compared to classic.
Secrets could've been better, the only memorable ones are Castlevania Secrets and that Giant Rocketeer.
SS3 and SS4 military based theme is probably what makes old fans feels odd. It doesn't really fit.
I hope SS5 is gonna be unique, since 4 is peak gameplay. Dual wield is godsend.

If i remember correctly, the reason ss3 feel weird and "military" is cuz they wanted to make a military shooter - but it got cancelled. After that they tried pitching for a doom sequel (that's where the baron and mancubus like enemies in 3 came from) but that also didn't work out - so they reused assets from those two projects in ss3.
It would be hella cool if they made ss5 with more classic map design and the new gunplay features :D

DOOM 2016 > Serious Sam 4 > DOOM Eternal
DOOM 2016 was basically old-school DOOM modernized. Loved it.
Serious Sam 4 is still less complex than the modernized DOOM, but it stuck to it's own formula and improved upon it in every way. Well, except for the frame rate issues and random skill tree, but let's ignore that.
DOOM Eternal although a great game, is far from a "authentic" DOOM experience. It's more of a fast paced arena shooter AKA Quake instead of DOOM, and just not what I'd expect from a DOOM game. Good game. Just probably not the best DOOM game.
All 3 games are great games but if I had to pick between the two, I'd probably pick SS4. Too much emphasis on constant executions in Eternal, instead of focusing on the best part which is the shooting. IMO.

@@Jack_War I get the big enemy encounters comparison but the map design is just soooo different from a design philosophy. SS has always been about big maps with a ton of enemies with secrets throughout. The first two doom games we're more about tighter restrictive maps with specific enemy placements and traps/ design puzzles. Both are a lot of fun but are just waaaayyy to different to be compared. Especially when doom 1 had to be made a certain way due to hardware limitations.

I don't know if you just got the game but actually get better before comparing gameplay. I don't know the difficulty you are playing on either. Nightmare on Doom Eternal is where you actually have to pay attention to what you do. I already played Doom Eternal and I can say that Nightmare will definitely blow your mind. It gets really hectic at most of the time. I have never played SS4 so I can't say anything about it.
It's true that I wasn't playing that well, but it's not like I am going to master the game again just to record some videos. I finished the game like 3 times and the dlc once, I reinstalled it a few days ago.
Doom Eternal is recorded on Nightmare while Serious Sam 4 is recorded on Serious ( the hardest difficulty )

Doom Eternal is almost the same as 2016, only more content than the previous one and continuity of the story, SS4 literally gives me heavy 2-handed weapons, chaotic gadgets, renewed gameplay and a different face than its predecessor. I like more to face 3000 enemies alone riding an alien bull with a minigun in one hand and a rocket launcher with chainsaws of 6 while it launched a black hole. And all that of 16 players, not to mention the music, the doom is good but it seems that there is only one genre, SS4 I love almost all music and more when it brings nostalgia. In the end it is fun. That they fight which is better is another thing that interests me little, in the end doom is a better game, just like the last of us 2 and battlefield 5, right?

I played doom, serious sam, duke nukem 3d and forever, quake and wolfestein, the sstfe and sstse are the same and those who play it are the best of their saga which for me not but if nostalgic, the 2 and ne did not like them for Nothing, the 3 returned his formula but being a little more current and the 4 added a lot of new things that I loved too much and that is why I was talking about him. Doom 1 and 2 are the same, 3 wanted to be terrifying but I liked it anyway, 2016 was a great game but Eternal, it's almost the same, it's just continuing the story and nothing else, some details were improved but they are very few and so The only relevant thing I saw in that game was interaction with another type of npc ... And why I prefer serious sam than doom is because serious sam is more frantic remembering having 17 hp seeing 400 enemies to come with a minigun.

@Isaiah Johnston No. I own all the SS and doom games. I enjoy them all except for SS4. If it's better for you, that's fine. I just disagree with your reasoning. I think Doom is a much better franchise out of the two. Also I don't think you should be calling people "doom kids" as if bias is bad when you have a SS profile picture and just went on a tangent about how you played SS all your life. Doesn't that make you a serious sam kid.
@Isaiah Johnston I agree with you on the the things SS4 did right. I also appreciate how fast the devs worked to fix the issues with SS4 after launch. Both them and IDsoftware are some of the best devs in the shooter genre at least when it comes to humility and learning from mistakes. I personally didn't enjoy SS4 and still think SS3 or second encounter hold the crown. My initial comment said that because I thought you were trying to speak about it objectively instead of just your opinion so I reacted a bit knee-jerk. That's my bad. I think both Fandoms are having a hard time accepting criticism for both games though.
@Isaiah Johnston I agree that the hud should have custom options. I hope they add new Huds with the next dlc but I guess we'll see. I think the reason for the change was because the other hud was too small and didn't help send info to the player fast enough to suit the fast gameplay. So they made it bulky and a bit more on the nose for that reason. Still I wish they would give us the option to change it to different huds, especially for us doom eternal vets that are used to the doom dance and don't need info that fast anymore. Maybe they could just put a disclaimer for when you change the hud that warns first time players that it might impact the intended experience? Something like that would work Imo.
@Isaiah Johnston Me neither. But those color presets do help some. I use the exterminator preset and it does fit the game more for me. I wish for something more immersive but maybe they'll add those later. I guess we'll see. They are pretty good at listening to fans. The problem is the yes men fans that don't accept any criticism.

Serious Sam 4 : Made by 40 devs.
DOOM Eternal : Made by 250 devs.
Still, Serious Sam 4 was way more fun. It remained true to its genre to put it simply. It had equally good weapons and much better artefacts(such as time slow down, Black Hole and even a bloody mini Nuke). Not only that, it has much more enemies in every level, and there's more variety of them too. Plus, DOOM Eternal had some horrid platforming, while Serious Serious remained true to its formula and had large, open arena levels. Serious Sam 4 is the winner for me.
And yet 2.5K devs care more about their game and community than the 40 devs.

Doom Eternal wasn't made by 2.5k devs, where did you get that from? And how did SS4 stayed true to it's genre and Eternal didn't? Quantity doesn't mean quality and Eternal wins every fight against SS4 because it was made by competent developers.
@@beef9785 Wrong. S.S.4 has also received a couple of patches since release, which fixed most of the bugs and glitches in the co-op mode and filled the empty France level with enemies.

@@dronsito It actually is. You can’t possibly decide what belongs in the trash bin and what doesn’t. Just because you like eternal definitely doesn’t mean that SS4 is bad. It has much more enemies, bigger arenas, more guns, a more developed main character. In SS4 you can just relax while ripping apart hundreds of aliens. In doom eternal you must put all your energy and focus into the game.

Croteam is still a small indie team studio while ID software is currently AAA studio.
For all the flaws SS4 shares,The Team did everything they could with the budget to gives us the best SS experience as possible and honestly after playing it i can defently see it still got the feeling.
Had the team got the same budget as ID software,I am sure they'll give us a AAA quality SS game.
SS4 is still a mindless fun FPS,It's was just released at a poor state and the devs optimised it and now has Steamworkshop support.

Almost every FPS game taking after Doom has the usual pistol, shotgun, machine gun, rocket launcher, energy weapon loadout. SS's combat's core is about destroying countless fodder enemies as fast as you can without much thought put into it, often using one or two guns and holding m1 down all the time. Doom's is about smaller groups of strong demons that present you combat puzzles that actually make you think and demand that you constantly switch weapons and use all of your arsenal properly without spamming.
The only things these games share are somewhat similar arsenals and that they're old franchises.
@@smoothbraindevincision1148 Having played the games of both franchises, I disagree about the SS statement. While indeed Doom 2016 and Eternal focuse more on resource management, you also have to be strategic and conservative in the serious sam games (Traditional formula). It is not just mindless shooting. Try the first/second encounter, or SS3/ SS4 last levels on serious difficulty. It is as intense as Doom 2016 and Eternal on Nightmare. The main difference is that the newer doom games make you go forward against the enemies, in the SS games you need to retreat. Both games are fun in their own ways.

That would be interesting. SS3 and SS4 already have sort of melee animations so glory kills are not that far. You would need to introduce large open areas in Eternal with hordes of fodder demons. SS at some point has arenas. Sam would need double jumping and dashing. Double ballistas, unmaykrs, plasma shutguns lol. It is definitely possible to create a game like that.

SS4 has some issues but the combat is fun. Doom Eternal does so many things differently compared to normal fps (e.g. platforming; glory kills; ammo scarcity; heavy enemy spam in small arenas). The enjoyment wasn't optimal for me.

Yeah the game looks like rushed ass, plus the bugs and glitches at launch were hilarious.
yeah hahahaha, it's funny how the weapons and the monsters are so detailed and well made, while the characters are literally worse than half life 2 NPCs

Serous sam 4 lacks the details and the gamplay can get repetitive, And doom enternal is WAYYYYY FUNNER, There is no environment in ss4, But doom actually has Environment and details and the gameplay in doom is funner so doom enternal is better overrall.
