Fix for a Jeep Wrangler manual transmission that pops out of gear

- Does the manual shifter on your Jeep Wrangler with a 6-speed NSG370 transmission feel sloppy and imprecise? That shifter also has an annoying and potentially alarming tendency to pop out of gear, particularly when the Wrangler is on rough terrain.
The long throw of the shift lever combined with the Wrangler’s body shakes and resulting drivetrain flex increases the likelihood and frequency of this gear-popping problem. For a vehicle with such great off-roading chops, it’s a surprising issue that’s well-known among Jeep fans and avid off-roaders. And Dorman has a fix for it.
Our OE FIX manual transmission shift tower is specially designed to help prevent this issue so that the shifter stays in gear and provides precise, positive shifts. Our superior design features more robust construction than the factory unit, using bearing steel rather than the original equipment tower’s low carbon stamped steel that tends to fatigue. Our tower also reduces shifter wear through specially hardened and coated tool steel in the shifter detents. With this sturdier, upgraded shift tower, the throws on the gear selector are reduced, too.
Instead of replacing your shift tower with the same factory part and inviting the same irritating shifting problems all over again, or risk damaging your trans with a no-name replacement, do it right with this Dorman OE FIX shift tower.

wow - no more RevZilla?
Been a few years. My byline still pops up there every now and again. -L.
Do you have a solid mount shifter that you recommend for this in a 2013 Wrangler JK?
Hi Wes, we would recommend the OE shifter or equivalent.
So…that’s a no?
Wonder if it is possible to solidify that piece of rubber in the handle? I have seen a video where the guy mentions putting a large washer on top before bolting it down helps…
Exactly how much is it? How do I get in contact with Dorman? There’s no information whatsoever. Can you explain that one to me this is weird.
Hi Michael, great question! Please visit DormanProducts.com and find the product that you are looking for and there will be a button labeled "Where to buy". You can also visit or call your local auto parts store and they should be able to give you pricing on items.
I have a 2000 TJ and I’m having trouble shifting into 2nd and reverse. Thoughts
What kind of oil do you have in your transmission and transfer case? I have issues w reverse and downshifting to third in my 05' TJ. Gonna buy some synchromesh for both of them to see if that'll alleviate the issue.
Your site says this doesn't fit the 6 speed in the 4.0L inline 6. Is this correct?
Hi David, all of the application listed in the link say they fit a 6-speed but not the 5-speed. For 2005 and 2006 models it does not fit the 4.0 6 cylinder even if it is a 6-speed. www.dormanproducts.com/p-137293-697-024.aspx?origin=keyword
@@DormanProducts Why does this not fit the 4.0L 6 Speed NSG370??
What a great way of selling your product. No information on it. Keep up the good work.
