+Thanh Nguyen I wouldn't blame you. People criticize the heck out of it, but there's really nothing wrong with it. It just doesn't offer quite the same bang for your buck that the N4 and N5 did. It's not a HUGE upgrade from the N5, but it's an upgrade nonetheless.
Michael, the main reason why you haven't reached 4 hours of screen on time is because of T-Mobile's spotty coverage you're getting. I'm sure if you pop in an AT&T sim you'll get much more juice out of it. I'm getting 3-5 hours of screen on time on my Moto X Pure Edition. This is by far the best Android smartphone of 2015 IMO.
I was just about to order a Moto X Pure until I saw the sale on the Nexus 6. $350 is an unbeatable deal for a device with those specs. The Moto X is a little better in every regard but with tax, it's a little over $100 more expensive if you compare the 32gb version.
Fadil Karim that was exactly my thought as well. Heck, I ended up paying less for my Nexus 6 that I did for my 32gb Nexus 5 when I bought it brand new.
the Nexus 6 is going to be the winner for me..Why.?.simple, because, I had it for a year and never ever had given me no issues what so ever. It don't have even a scratch, I have like 12 cases, is all paid off and is running better than ever.. with a daily 5.5 hrs SoT I don't even need no other phone for now. these front facing speakers there is no other Moto can beat them. I'm a well satisfied proud Nexus 6 owner. That is still in love with like that first time.. I'll pass on any 2015 phone for now.. no but thank you.
Your reviews are second to none. The narration is amazing. And then you played Mariah Carey and now I'm totally in love with you and this device :D thank you for the information!
"if you could peel away the back and look inside... which you can't..." :) Still loving my Note 3, where I can do exactly that! (Here's hoping the Note 6 goes back to that simple functionality!) Great video, Michael. As always.
YES I've been waiting on this comparison :) I own the Nexus 6 (Which is my favorite phone of all time) and I'm really excited about this new Moto Pure. But I'm not buying crap until the new Nexus phones are released and reviewed by you guys :)
+Dadou I bought a 32gig N6 (new) for $385 (Rs. 24999) here in India. I thought I got a decent deal (not as good as yours i know lol) as the moto X Style here is priced at $492.99 (Rs. 31999). While I do agree that overall the X Style is the clear winner here, every device has it's strengths and weaknesses which is relative to it's user. In my case, I was pretty clear about what I wanted from my next device - 1) A price tag of less than 400usd, 2) stock android, 3) fastest updates, 4) a decent enough camera, 5) a QHD screen, 6) as massive a display as I could get while still having a phone (for a good multimedia consumption experience) , 7) amoled (personal preference, coming from a Moto X previous version, I wanted a bigger version of it)... 8) ...and a powerful enough CPU & GPU.... ...while battery life and storage are also fairly important to me, i was ok with the way it is (nothing's perfect!) So yea...at the end ...it's what makes you happy and serves your personal needs the best I guess :-)
How is one-handed swipe-typing with your thumb on the Moto X PE? I'm still on the 5.2" LG G2 and I don't want change how I type. (I'm 5'9" with average hands.)
It's a 5.7 inch display but it's slim so I don't think it'll be much of a stretch. But it will take some getting used to. Trust me you'll drop the phone plenty times.
dude - just got the new Motorola Nexus 6, bargain basement price of 399. for 64gig model in white - im loving it. and primarily love the big battery this thing came with im so tired of having to constantly monitor my battery life on my old cell even tho i love google, im coming off a nexus 5.
The potentially underwhelming battery in the Moto X is what is keeping me at bay in making this my next phone. After owning a Nexus 5, which is a phone I love, I've haven't had any problems that were too crazy, I never liked the idea of having to boost halfway during the day, I really don't want to have the same experience in a new phone. Maybe if they didn't stuff a QHD into the Moto X Pure, the battery would've been stellar, right now it's seems like too many pixels to push is what's keeping the 3000 mAh battery inside the X from being a truly full-day battery.
Excellent review, thank you so much, now I just need to find out if the phone will work with the CDMA LTE from AU/KDDI company in Japan or Softbank or even NTT Docomo.
Can't wait to get me one. going to use my Zenfone 2 until the holidays then get me a Moto X Pure Edition with 32 gb, a white front, gold trim, deep sea blue silicon back, red accents. it's going to be a beaut. That only costing me $450 is a steal and the nexus base model being $350 is amazing also. I'm more of a customization person so Moto X Pure is what I want and need.
Would your sentiments be the same if the phones were priced equally? Basically, would you get rid of your Nexus 6 for the Moto X? I get that it's better in certain aspects, but is it worth upgrading to from a Nexus 6, essentially costing more out of pocket?
In terms of voice activation, the Nexus is pretty identical. Instead of saying "Ok Google" on the voice setup, say what phrase you want to use, and it'll still accept it. Literally just found this out today.
I have the nexus 6 on t-mobile and have to say it is the best phone I have ever used I would like the customization of the pure wish the nexus would have had that to offer.
One of my favorite mobile tech reviewers taking b-roll and pics in my neighborhood. Nice. How'd you like Nuevo London? Great comparison. Both great phones but I think I lean towards the MXP.
I own both devices, and am currently using the X Pure as my daily driver. Both are fine devices, and will pretty much serve all your Android needs. However, there is one major factor that sets these devices apart...the active display. Even with the IR sensors disabled, Moto active display smokes the Nexus 6 Ambient display. Just a slight nudge, and Moto display does its thing. Ambient display is a bit erratic and unpredictable. Because of this, I think the Nexus 6 would be better suited for the IR sensors. I keep mine disabled on the X Pure because they're too sensitive. I definitely appreciate the lack of bloatware on both devices, though. If I had to stick with just one, and it's a tough call, I would probably go with the X Pure.
I currently own a Note 5 and I've been looking into buying a Nexus 6 as a secondary device. I'd rather take a Nexus 6 over an iPod 6th generation. Thoughts, anyone? Is the Nexus 6 still worth it this late in the game?
I've got 2014 Moto X and I've been wondering since they announced the 2015 Moto X why has Mototola changed the display technology. Don't you think it'd be a more intelligent move to keep the 1080p amoled or even upgrade to 2k amoled? Isn't Moto Display designed for this display technology?
Good review. You covered two main points of what I was looking for. Camera and the screen outside the sun. Idiot N6 owners claims to deny any problem viewing the phone outdoors.
Wow the Moto X camera is pretty great in day time, nice colors, contrast, exposure, focus and detail, the video rec was way better than the nexus as well, i think its low light could be better though but still by far best camera in the price bracket. Great comparison PN.
Thanks for the great comparison. That video was unbelievable better than the Nexus 6. I wish the battery from the Play was in the Pure but since I'm upgrading from a Nexus 5 I'm sure I'll be happy. I'll probably reduce the pixel density to get more battery life though.
This was a good comparison but it didn't point out the current price cut on the Nexus 6. Taking that into consideration the Nexus 6 is a full $100 cheaper currently and these devices then appear a lot closer. Choosing the XPE becomes a matter of whether the improvements are worth paying a $100 extra for.
ha watching this on my nexus 6 only things bad with it is it gets hot horrible in the sunlight speakers get low even when it on it max volume when battery gets low for some reason
Actually I like the AMOLED on my Nexus 6 but I got the moto x to give it as a Christmas gift. I do love the speakers on the Moto X pure more then the Nexus 6 but that's it.
Pocketnow and mkbhd
Thats it for reviews 😍
+sankalpa acharya you mean michael, jaime and mkbhd ..
+Dodocea Ionut Catalin ya same meaning 😀
+Dodocea Ionut Catalin You're forgetting Hayato Huseman! Great contributor to the Pocketnow team.
not forgeting ,just don't like him he imitates michael too much...
What about Flossy Carter
I'd take the Moto X's battery life any day. Everything seems good coming from a Nexus 5, lol.
Agreed. My nexus 5 barely touches 2.5 hrs SOT 😂😂
+Patrick Kemp Aperture!
Southern Hunters Indeed.
I know everyone is liking the better specs of the 6p, but I'm such a huge nexus 5 fan. I might just go with the 5x
+Thanh Nguyen I wouldn't blame you. People criticize the heck out of it, but there's really nothing wrong with it. It just doesn't offer quite the same bang for your buck that the N4 and N5 did. It's not a HUGE upgrade from the N5, but it's an upgrade nonetheless.
the video of each phone playing next to each other has helped me A LOT, plz don't ever stop doing that
Michael, the main reason why you haven't reached 4 hours of screen on time is because of T-Mobile's spotty coverage you're getting. I'm sure if you pop in an AT&T sim you'll get much more juice out of it. I'm getting 3-5 hours of screen on time on my Moto X Pure Edition. This is by far the best Android smartphone of 2015 IMO.
Best of 2017 as well for that matter.
if I hadn't gotten the nexus 6 for $350 on sale then I'd totally be ordering a moto x pure.
+JReview new from best buy. also on sale at amazon.
Not sure. Don't really shop ebay
+scott loving did they price match the $350?
When the iron man of the tech world says “ok jarvis”
the Nexus 6 is going to be the winner for me..Why.?.simple, because, I had it for a year and never ever had given me no issues what so ever. I'll pass on any 2015 phone for now.. no but thank you.
have had the nexus 6 since day one. Today i am running 7.1.1 and this phone is still amazing. One of the best phones i have ever bought
I just bought the Moto X Pure Today! I love it so far.
Nicolas Melia this was seven months ago LMAO
Solid choice. Joke's on those early adopters who ate the majority of the depreciation curve.
you were born to do this, excellent comparison, can't wait for September 18
I always enjoy your reviews, Michael.
Kind of off topic but, were those video samples shot in New London, Connecticut?
@pocketnow is there switchible profiles on the Moto X like the Nexus 6??
Your reviews are second to none. The narration is amazing. And then you played Mariah Carey and now I'm totally in love with you and this device :D thank you for the information!
Does the Moto X get the first updates like Nexus phones?
after having both the nexus 6 is my preferred device overall.
"if you could peel away the back and look inside... which you can't..." :) Still loving my Note 3, where I can do exactly that! (Here's hoping the Note 6 goes back to that simple functionality!) Great video, Michael. As always.
What is the wireless charger of 2:22 ??? where can I get one!?
Does the moto x pure edition have 'tap to wake up' feature?
Where did u get that wallpaper it looks so cool!
Can i have link please?
anyways great review as always one of my favorite Tech viewer!!
YES I've been waiting on this comparison :) I own the Nexus 6 (Which is my favorite phone of all time) and I'm really excited about this new Moto Pure. But I'm not buying crap until the new Nexus phones are released and reviewed by you guys :)
the look at the beginning, was that blue steel or magnum?
if you had to decide between the HTC one m9 or the iPhone 6s/+....
....how would you customize your moto x?
Great review/comparison Michael. Thanks.
How does the Pure stack up against the 6+ and 6S speed and performance wise?
There's something I've wanted to ask for a long time now, what's the deal with Michael's black ring? is it a smart device?
were you in south Boston?
Will the Moto X Style ship to New Zealand
Cant wait for the new Nexuses coming out later this month!
Its International Unlocked? Can i Use it in South America For example?
I bought the Nexus 6 with 64 GB for $399 couple of weeks ago. Will you recommend it over the new Moto X at that price?
ByRWZY Spec helps when you have poor software. But is the least of two.
+ByRWZY I think Nexus 6 for 299. is price to value Win..But again you can't go wrong with any of them
+Dadou I bought a 32gig N6 (new) for $385 (Rs. 24999) here in India. I thought I got a decent deal (not as good as yours i know lol) as the moto X Style here is priced at $492.99 (Rs. 31999). While I do agree that overall the X Style is the clear winner here, every device has it's strengths and weaknesses which is relative to it's user. In my case, I was pretty clear about what I wanted from my next device -
1) A price tag of less than 400usd,
2) stock android,
3) fastest updates,
4) a decent enough camera,
5) a QHD screen,
6) as massive a display as I could get while still having a phone (for a good multimedia consumption experience) ,
7) amoled (personal preference, coming from a Moto X previous version, I wanted a bigger version of it)...
8) ...and a powerful enough CPU & GPU....
...while battery life and storage are also fairly important to me, i was ok with the way it is (nothing's perfect!)
So yea...at the end ...it's what makes you happy and serves your personal needs the best I guess :-)
+David Lawman Where from?
Cris Cristodoulou Far East.
Pocketnow thanks so much for this comparison ! I was really looking forward to it and helping me decide which to chose . Big like from me :)
MICHAEL FISHER is the goddamn BOSS of all reviewers! You outdo yourself each time. This video was no exception. You Rock man!'
you have the best reviews Michael. I wish my reviews were as sharp as yours lol. One day.....
will the moto X be available to Verizon customers?
Can't wait for your review of the Moto X Pure Edition :)
Can anyone please explain to me why my moto x pure was supposed to be at my house by yesterday but hasn't even finished being built at the moment?
hmm i read some other review from different sources
they mention moto x pure edition night shot terrible is it true?
quick question motoxpure or one plus 2 which is best??
dude - just got the new Motorola Nexus 6, bargain basement price of 399. for 64gig model in white - im loving it. and primarily love the big battery this thing came with im so tired of having to constantly monitor my battery life on my old cell even tho i love google, im coming off a nexus 5.
Saw the video, ordered the Moto X Style (here in India). Thank you Mr. fischer
@3:08 is that Minima live wallpaper?
The potentially underwhelming battery in the Moto X is what is keeping me at bay in making this my next phone. rocking the PTS i see, really looks great!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Been waiting for this comparison before I buy one or the other. :-)
Can't wait to get me one. going to use my Zenfone 2 until the holidays then get me a Moto X Pure Edition with 32 gb, a white front, gold trim, deep sea blue silicon back, red accents. it's going to be a beaut. Great review. A review vs the Note 5 would be a tough one, but how about a comparison between the new Moto X Pure and the Note 4.
where can i buy the moto x? link please.
Are you sure the cameralens wasn't dirty at the videosamples because my Moto G 2013 seems to do a better job than the nexus 6 xD
I love the moto x display with those thin side bezels!
Would your sentiments be the same if the phones were priced equally? Basically, would you get rid of your Nexus 6 for the Moto X? I get that it's better in certain aspects, but is it worth upgrading to from a Nexus 6, essentially costing more out of pocket?

moto x pure edition or xperia z3? which is better? I wanna buy one of this smartphones.
can you make a video comparing it to the oneplus 2? Would really love to see that as I'm doubting which one to buy
Nexus 6 because I love the 6 inch display more
Tooooo fucking biggggg man........
+Mathieu Deprat I have the mate 7 and I have it now for 3 months and it looks normal now
+Christian Sandoval for my is does
what if I got my nexus 6 for $250 unlocked from amazon :3
I have the nexus 6 on t-mobile and have to say it is the best phone I have ever used I would like the customization of the pure wish the nexus would have had that to offer.

Definitely went to the Rapidnadion RUclips channel just to check out that epic music in the speaker demo!
I currently own a Note 5 and I've been looking into buying a Nexus 6 as a secondary device. I'd rather take a Nexus 6 over an iPod 6th generation. Thoughts, anyone? Is the Nexus 6 still worth it this late in the game?
it's a beast for media consumption
+D33M0N3Y at it's price of 350$ on amazon i would say go for it
hell yeah its like my second TV / stereo
lucky, you're owning 2 high end smart phones
+OboSoma brBlackoma (official Gov of USA) You'd hate me if I told you what my current secondary device is.
Nexus 6 is currently $300 on eBay for the White, 32GB USA Model. Brand New, great deal for anybody looking. QualityCellz is the seller.
I thought you were going to do moto x style vs one plus 2?
Such a different era of phones. It's crazy.
Great review!
can the pure use tmobile wifi calling feature
I definitely will go for the new moto X pure edition. It's a lot better than the nexus 6, especially when it comes to screen brightness.
Great review and comparison. Thanks for another informative video.
Good review. You covered two main points of what I was looking for. Camera and the screen outside the sun. Idiot N6 owners claims to deny any problem viewing the phone outdoors.
what is the real time for battery to charge from 7% to 32%?
great comparison review.
I want the wallpaper where can I get it?
it's one of the stock google now launcher lollipop wallpapers.
+Patrick Salinas you can get these wallpapers with the same style of google wallpapers from an app called material wallpapers .
You have my gratitude
damn the moto X has nice stabilisation
Holy hell!!! Dat video camera comparison!!
Amazon is still selling the Nexus 6 for $349.99 right now. I'd say at this price it's definitely a better buy than the Moto X.
Pricing here in the UK is a little higher than I expected - £400. Comparing to the OnePlus Two at ~£300 and the LG G4 ~£360 what is the better option?
Wow the Moto X camera is pretty great in day time, nice colors, contrast, exposure, focus and detail, the video rec was way better than the nexus as well, i think its low light could be better though but still by far best camera in the price bracket. Great comparison PN.
nothing touches Moto X Play battery life. pure is better but battery life is important.
Thanks for the great comparison. That video was unbelievable better than the Nexus 6. I wish the battery from the Play was in the Pure but since I'm upgrading from a Nexus 5 I'm sure I'll be happy. I'll probably reduce the pixel density to get more battery life though.
Maybe worth doing the same comparison of the current Moto next month when the new nexus(Huawei) is released.
You should really do a comparison between the Moto X and the Oneplus Two, I just can't decide which one to pick..
Agreed with varun but do remember that nexus offers you the latest software update
is that a second nano sim slot i see?
I ordered nexus 6 for 399 on amazon, i love big screen phone and pure android is always smoother than pure edition.
ha watching this on my nexus 6 only things bad with it is it gets hot horrible in the sunlight speakers get low even when it on it max volume when battery gets low for some reason
Oh, and the focus is NOT that bad on my Nexus 6. I tested it indoors which should be even worse, but it was A LOT better than on this video!
Considereng the Fact I dont care Moto Maker and Prize
wich of this 2 phones would be better for me ?
I m lookig for a Good display and Dual speaker
The Moto X had me at "Bretter" Display... Good review, Thanks!
Nexus 6:
-Faster updates
-Bigger screen
-Better display type (Amoled>LCD)
-Slightly bigger battery
-$50 less
-More storage (32 vs 16)
-Faster CPU (2.7 ghz>1.8)
Moto X Pure:
-Expandable storage
-Slightly better cameras
-Special Motorola features.
Winner: Nexus 6
I would love a comparison of the moto x pure vs iphone 6 plus...
excellent comparison! thanks!
anyone facing any issues, problems, or bugs in the new moto x pure speakers ?
I have the n6 and love it but to be able to customize the color to my own style I would go with x.
I don't know why but michael does the best reviews out there xD
I see a lot of reviewers and I come back to pocketnow (Yes, even spanish)
Me too. Even brazilian
yes.. give that guy a medal
+Christian Sandoval :( yes
Actually I like the AMOLED on my Nexus 6 but I got the moto x to give it as a Christmas gift. I do love the speakers on the Moto X pure more then the Nexus 6 but that's it.
