- An on-the-spot animatic using Tom Cardy's DnD song, Perception Check.
The storyboard's context looks to Japanese RPGs (specifically Dragon Quest) for inspiration.

And what makes this funnier is that at 0:28, the hand page of the monster guide says "do not be confused with" next to a picture of what the three robed figures look like, so the party was gonna probably attack some non-hostiles.

Well Perception and Insight are two different skills after all...
I think the rest of the party knows that and can’t do anything about it because they rolled a 1
When the DM makes you roll for everything
I don’t think they made them roll too much at all
Attack rolls and Hiding are both actions in the book, perception check is an existing skill and while Vicious Mockery typically requires the target to roll, there’s still a roll associated with the spell
Honestly I've had a dm that didn't hardly make us roll for anything, and I gotta say... the rolls aren't much better
@@inkymoth the DM literally had the barb roll to brace their weapon for flair and it had negative consequences. Rules wise it's a horror story in the making. All this before even initiative starts. There's some really bad DnD going on in there, but it's catchy at least
@@Pitrah i haven't watched this session, but going with the song, looks like the encounter wasn't meant to be hostile at all and it looks like those extra rolls were meant to prevent the party from murdering innocent people yet again lmao
@@inkymoth The best dnd games are the ones with the least rolls. Needing a check to see if you can brace a weapon you have proficiency with is just weird. "I'm really good with this weapon type, I've been holding it all my life, but bracing it requires so much effort I can lose my entire turn".
All bracing is is just mounting it against your arm... lol.
Never do you fall to the final boss… but you fall to the level one goblin by missing every shot with Nat 1’s while they somehow get the nat 20. That is the curse of RNGesus.
THis isn't even exaggeration, the first time I played a level 1 character I got spanked by a goblin because all my hit dice kept failing and the goblin got a crit
My old group were fighting five goblins, easy right?
No, because of the dreaded Goblin #4
NO ONE could hit this guy, all mat ones or too low to hit but he was bleeding us with his teeny dagger.
We eventually got him but holy crude that fight was epic, took almost 20 minutes of this one goblin almost TPKing us due to dodging, us fumbling and just sheer stupidity.

Old-school JRPGs with accuracy mechanics be like:
Especially Earthbound, heck some weapons are so inaccurate they have multiple missed attack texts.
There's RPG companies (J included) that still do that. So, when I'm playing one of theirs, I prioritize accuracy over DPT (T=turn).

Sometimes it’s still hell though.
@@kernium HA, that reminds me Rocket launchers in the first medabots game couldn't miss. But they still made an accuracy check. If you missed you would get a message that the enemy was 'caught in the explosion' instead and still do damage.

I love the [FURRY] bard, he’s got a cool design going on that vaguely reminds me of some anime. Doesn’t help he’s also the coolest class in the game

It looks like its half-fox, and half-corgi, ...or just a fox that's too fluffy, I guess.
To me, this style is giving Dragonquest, and I love that 😊

This is 2000/10. Without a doubt the best, funniest, most clever, and aesthetically pleasing animation I've seen all year. It perfectly captures classic JRPG animation vibes while still making fun.

Love this- the character design, expressiveness, and detail is all cracking me up. The little dance reminds me of a meme that used to be super popular in anime circles twelve or so years ago- the Caipirinha dance or something? I don't know if that was intentional but it really made me smile
