This is correct, EXCEPT the Rothbardian obsession with gold. The value of gold has, at many times in the past century, fallen FASTER than the value of the dollar. Strong growth with steady inflation is far better then the stagnation that would happen if put under the Gold Standard again. To give you an idea of the level of contraction that would happen, we would go from 20 trillion in circulation to just 600 billion, a 40 fold decrease in the money supply; that sort of contraction would cause economic panic. Just to be clear, inflation has only increased by around 9 fold since we got off the gold standard in the early 70s and so we are about 1/5th of the money supply increase in inflation. That's pretty good when you think about it.
That's Excellent. It should be shown in every Econ 101 class. We'll done. Bring back the Gold Standard. My father made around $40,000 a year and owned a house a boat and a Cadillac plus summer vacations and my mom choose to work not because she had too but wanted to when we grew up.
