  • Neversoft's Spider-Man (PlayStation, Dreamcast, N64, PC -- aka Spider-Man 2000) turns 20 on the day this video is posted. To help celebrate the anniversary, here's a look at the most obscure version of the game -- a movie tie-in available through Kellogg's cereal proofs of purchase...and milk. Most would expect a demo for Treyarch's official movie game -- but no...it's actually an official mod of Neversoft's game, only with a movie costume. Find out all about it...

LTI Gray Matter was founded in 1992 by Michael Livesay as a subsidiary of Livesay Technologies Inc. Their ports are: Gex 3D (PC), Civilization II (PS1), Spider-Man 2000 & 02, X2: Wolverine's Revenge (PC), True Crime: LA with Mercenaries 2 on PC being their last port job before shutting down in 2010.

I had this. Since the cutscene of Venom on the big screen refers to "Mary Jane Parker", my 8-year-old self literally took this as being what happened after the movie. And I also figured Daredevil's cutscene appearance was the same Daredevil played by Ben Affleck.
Then I got a copy of Enter Electro, which had the cutscenes from this game as a "Previously on..." deal, and that gave it away to me that it was just a movie-themed costume mod of an older game.
Still, I played this demo version so many times as a kid, and then I would "continue the adventure" with my action figures and later Legos after.

@@cbake76 Yeah, as a kid I always assumed that Ben Affleck's Daredevil was in the same universe. I was aware that he was Marvel as well, so I made the assumption.
It helps that in Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, which springboards off of the first movie as continuity, that their version of Kingpin is a black dude voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan.

Oh man I remember playing the PC version of Spider-Man (2000) when I was little and experiencing all sorts of cutscene glitches, but since I was so young I thought they were intentional. The worst one was during the cutscene where Spider-Man swings in to save J. J. from Scorpion; upon loading into the level, Spider-Man is meant to auto-swing into the building but there was about a 60% chance that Spider-Man would miss the window and fall to his death instantly. If I remember correctly, the only way to reliably stop that from happening would be to skip the cutscene.

I noticed you worked on Spider-Man: Edge of Time? There's actually a bit of a community disagreement about one of the collectables within that game, specifically the newspapers you collect throughout the game, which show alternate histories. Some people claim they're automatically unlocked by just doing the story, but an equal amount of people claim that upon beating the story they're still missing newspapers, most commonly missing the ones focusing on Flash Tompson and Mr. Negative respectively. We suspect people with missing newspapers are just experiencing a glitch, but nobody's been able to verify since it's one of the lesser talked about Spidey games. I'm not sure what your role was in making that game, but is it possible you could shed some light here?

As a matter of fact, the advertisements on the disk did confuse me when I was a kid. This demo disk was my introduction to Spider-Man 2000, and I wanted to see the rest of the game, and assumed that the game advertised on the disk was the one I just played a demo of. I was surprised when I got into collecting video games as a teen and discovered that they were two different games.

Couple years pass and I finally got my hands on a ps1 copy, so it wasn't till about '06 or '07 that I finally got to play Spider-Man 2000 in it's full goodness. I still have my ps1 disc and enter Electro as well, but when it comes to revisiting, my go to is the Dreamcast version that I run with the DCEmu emulator

I think I figured out why Stan Lee’s narration isn’t used in the beginning but is used after. It looks like they had to cut out the Fantastic Four building from the opening shot since Activision probably only had the rights to Spider-Man and no other Marvel properties. And instead of shortening Stan Lee’s intro to fit the shorter intro they just cut it out entirely.

    • @cbake76

    • @cbake76
      @cbake76  8 месяцев назад

Looking back, there is a pretty prominent Daredevil scene, and he was very much a Fox property for movies at that time, like FF. Your thought could still be correct, but probably for the same reason I suggested they didn't have Stan Lee's rights for this -- it was later on and they were sloppy. 🙂

Not sure which "that" you're referring to, but I'm guessing it's either the running bug or "me" saying "they're great." The former is just a bug; the latter is just be me being dumb -- people seemed to like it in my last video, so I figured I'd maybe make it a thing.

Just how many versions of this game there are?!
Myself played PC with some unskippable bug that in the middle of venom chase forced Spidey to fall to his death. Skipped it thanks to the cheat years later...

Just the "real" game on PS1, Dreamcast, N64 and PC, so far as I know. And this weird oddity.

Wow, you're right! They totally cut off most of the stem of the Y with some bad leading between lines. I should have noticed it because "Developed" is missing most of its P, too. :-)

Wow i loved spiderman 2000 and the treyarch movie game, had no idea this existed. What a weird little rip off thing lmao. I would've been so confused because it's so far off the actual movie game.

Sometimes I forget how close this games were released one from the other. Maybe is because of the perception I had when I was a kid, as back in 2000 I was 5 years old and 1 or 2 years used to be like an eternity to me 🥹

I hear you! The NES was the most influential console for me, and it feels like I had it forever...but I really only played it for about 5 years. On the other hand, I've had my Switch for over 5 years, and it still feels like it's kinda new to me. 🙂
