Lundgren by a mile in my experience. Great in a mix too for downtuned riffage!

M7 is more chunkier and has more mids. Nazgul has thundering low end. Both are good depending on application.

Both sound great. Nazgul cuts through nicely in a band mix. Massive tone from your amp!

Thanks. The Nazgul is great at what it does, provided it's in the right guitar.

Great demo but one thing i don't understand, why didn't you use a new set of strings for both guitars? Especially when they are new they can sound a lot different from older strings and even if they are from the same brand the differ a bit but that's the most you can do I think.

I didn't have multiple 7 string sets sitting around to swap out, plus new strings would further exacerbate the shrill high end of the M7. With older strings it's a more fair comparison imo.

I'm a lundgren mX player but thinking about a full band mix I prefer the nazgul on clean, trivium, beatdown, and bill nile. I prefer the m7 in a grind, clutch, and mastodon context.

the M7 just has too much low mid emphasis for my tastes tbh. It's definitely better suited to riffs or subgenres where a thicker tone works better.

@@Knight-brolaire I have a lundgren m8 custom adjusted for a 6 string bass and it's excellent for my needs in that very particular, niche context

At least in this demo, the Nazgul seems to have more powerful chugs and growly low end. With that said, the M7 has better clarity and sounds less hollow in the midrange in some sections.
This makes me believe that the ideal pickup is the Nazgul on the two lower strings and M7 on the rest. 😂
The lower one tunes, and the thicker strings they use, I think that perhaps the M7 would overtake the Nazgul... But I suppose that's why Meshugga uses an M8.

I've used the 6, 7 and 8 string versions of both pickups and tbh, the nazgul is a bit clearer overall. Both pickups work great for single note/power chord riffage but start to get a bit murky when you play extended chords. Not really an issue if you play Meshuggah esque stuff or extreme metal though lol

@@Knight-brolaire have you ever tried a PAF PRO?
I don't think they make 7 or 8 string versions but... I've had DiMarzio make me customized pickups for a VERY reasonable up-charge. I was totally surprised. I needed a BC2 for a Telecaster and they made one for me.
My buddy Trey loves those pickups. Anyhow.. Just an idea... Even if not the PAF Pro, watching this video again just reminded me of how easy DiMarzio was to work with.

1:00 chord progression reminds me of this song.

Great playing and both sound great.
M7 has more bite and would kick through the mix more but both do a good job.
I imagine you could shape the tone of the Nazgul more with presets while the M7 dominates its own sound more.
