Great episode! Reporting on Buffalo has been a long time coming. Not only Canada but we have to also consider possible satellite groups operating in near by Rochester and Syracuse that fall under Buffalo’s umbrella historically. A lot has been happening in upstate NY the past couple decades.

I was working as a manager for Starbucks in the old first ward. While the neighborhood is on the upswing there are still some undesirable elements. Yesterday, two guys came in from the first ward neighborhood cooperative and offered to protect the business. They were really nice but I could not pay their weekly dues. I don’t really have any discretionary funds. They count every last coffee bean in my business.
Great stuff as always. Just wanted to mention that the Supreme Court of New York is the trial-level court of general jurisdiction in New York State. The highest court of the State of New York is the Court of Appeals.
Outside of the 5 families we really only talk about Philly a lot, maybe a little Chicago and Detroit but not a lot at all about buffalo. Most people prolly assumed they were endangered species. I remember hearing their members had to maintain actual jobs and after hearing about the school teacher I believe it lol. If they still exist we gotta give them credit for being extremely smart and lowkey. Their supposed long time boss has never been convicted of a felony?? I know Detroit gets all the props but god damn we gotta give it up for buffalo for existing without anyone really knowing the extent.
Buffalo is one of the most active families today by far. They’re very tied into Canadian OC and the Ndrangheta up there. Dom Violi their underboss grew up in the Ndrangheta. He lost two uncles and his father in the war with the Rizzuto’s.
I'm a retired auto worker, just turned seventy and since I retired I've lived in Vegas and now Huntington Beach CA, my first 55 years I reside in western New York. In my twenties stephano Magadino and his crew sent me and my girlfriend a drink while we sat at a bar. Years later I became friends with 2 of sonny Nicolettis boys, who was rumored to be a made man (his dad was stephanos driver) . Never met me. Todaro but have heard good things about him. One of my best friends, Eddie was the son and nephew of Niagara falls most successful bookmakers. Our friendship began in ninth grade and continues today. His dad and uncle passed away about ten years ago after sixty years of lucrative bookmaking. Eddie told me that every week of those sixty years, 200 dollars went to buffalos mafia. BTW Eddie's family was Lebanese and had no connections to the mob
Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy….. I was unsure of how I felt about you, ur calm, u seem to have 1 speed (not a good or a bad thing, just a thing) but hearing you talk about the prostitution and sex trafficking I feel I understand how u think more and ur a solid man Jimmy. Another interesting note is that all of Canada is under Hells territory. I had no idea the Outlaws were in Buffalo at Pharoahs. I been there a few time and never realized it.
Peter Gerace is talked about frequently in Ron Finos book “Mr Undercover”. Gerace was deeply involved in local 210 of the Laborers Union and the Buffalo Mob and they’re gambling and loan sharking rackets

Oof, a lot to touch on in this great episode. I was on the Black Hand forum Buffalo feed a few months ago, and there were people on there arguing Buffalo is completely defunct. Their main case was that, other than the 2017 wire taps, there was no info. No indictments indicates no OC activity. I hear what you said towards the end about the indictments not using the word mafia, but still, these indictments should really put that argument to bed. Regarding the connection between Hamilton and the war in Montreal, I might be wrong, but my understanding was that the Musitanos were backed by the Rizzutos on their take over in Hamilton. Was it them that killed Johnny Pops Papalia? I think so. So when the Rizzutos were strong, the Musitanos were secure, and Hamilton was peaceful. Once the Rizzutos were weak, the Musitanos lost their backing, so the Luppino-Violis went at them, and there was war in Hamilton. The Musitanos are dead now though, so that should be settled. I was surprised to hear you say that the Luppinos were never with Buffalo though - I thought they were. Interesting. Regarding Violi’s reference to The Commission in 2017, I asked John Pennisi in his comment section if the Commission was still functioning. His answer was “there will always be a Commission.” I also asked Dom Cicale about it on his section and how it worked given they weren’t meeting in his day. He said he didn’t have anything to do with that himself, but he thinks it was done by 1-2-1 meetings. So I think what he meant was that it still existed then, but votes had to be collated through a series of 1-2-1 meetings, rather than an actual meeting of all the members at once. But it seems like the authority of the body still exists, even if it’s awkward to operate. Which makes sense. The mafia without the Commission isn’t really the mafia any more - it would just be a series of different organised crime groups. There still needs to be central authority for basic laws etc. And regarding disappearing the OD’d stripper rather than calling an ambulance. That’s proper messed up. If that’s true, I hope this guy gets banged up for life.
Except for from the days of Luciano up until recently,in didn't the mafia in America exist without the commission-as you say just a series of independent groups?
@@AristotleSanchez1000 Luciano and his allies formed the Commission in 1931. The Commission was definitely fully functioning from then until the 80s. Since the 90s or 2000s, it hasn’t been able to meet with all members at once face 2 face, but I think it still exists as a central authority, they just have to communicate and vote remotely. Before 1931, there was already a central authority, the boss of bosses, plus big mafia meetings call the General Assembly. So it was never independent gangs, as used to be believed. It was always a structured network with common rules and regulations. What Luciano changed was getting rid of the boss of bosses position and replacing it with a panel of top bosses - the Commission. Without something like that, I don’t think you can really call it the mafia any more.
@@saughall1 I don’t think so. In Hamilton, the Papalias were with Buffalo LCN, and I thought the Luppinos always were but in this video they said they weren’t until later. But the Musitanos were a separate organisation.

I think it’s pretty well established Buffalo is tied into Canada. Dom Violi was busted in 2015 in an RCMP case that involved the Buffalo mob, the Gambinos, Bonnano’s and Ndrangheta outta Montreal and Hamilton. Plus Dom Violi and his entire family grew up in the Ndrangheta
