OG jujitsu is a huge curriculum with a little bit of everything, from grappling and joint manipulation, to striking and weapons work. It has pretty much evolved throughout the years and has had multiple splits in its lineage. While I initially wanted to learn og ju jitsu because angry weab energy, through the research I did and the goals i wanted to attain (to learn self defense), I've come to realize that learning judo - one of the jujitsu splits - is ultimately the best course for me. BJJ is also another approachable and practical martial art to take. Modern day jujitsu instructions are not focused, and with only a few hours a week to train, it's nearly impossible to be proficient with everything jujitsu has to offer. It's far better to pick one discipline and focus on it, something popular martial arts today have done. While there are other ju jitsu splits such as aikido, their use is more spiritual and less practical, and the instructors can make or break your experience with it.
Yeah, if you combine Judo and BJJ you have a really well-rounded grappling art. I did OG Jiujitsu for a couple of years & honestly it was fun but was of minimal use in a real fight. I did Judo for a week & was soundly put in my place by the judokas. Sparring/rolling/randori means you get to hone skills & see what does/doesn't work.
@@Skiamakhos the lack of actual sparring is what put me off og jujitsu as well. Personally, a good martial art for self-defense must be able to have its forms and techniques maintained in high stress situations with resisting opponents.
Your training body conditioning can be a 24 seven experience if you know how to transcend through life and time in the most efficient way. Example being overfed and under nourished is not helping your body perform at its best so that's why for many years I have been recommending high sources of nutrition which will allow the body to have all the vitamins minerals protein so forth and so on it needs to maximize on its overall functionality which includes being able to adjust adapt respond and recover to any and all situations in the most efficient way that is possible. In other words when you have this level of functionality two hours of training could be equivalent to 8 training twice a week would be equivalent to four or five. @@Skiamakhos If you truly believe that your "OG jiujitsu" (jiujitsu? Seriously?) training taught you nothing effective then you didn't learn jujutsu. Most supposed jujutsu taught outside Japan is not jujutsu at all. You most likely learned some version of aikido/aiki-jujutsu or "small-circle" jujutsu or an original style. Despite them falsely using the "jutsu", these are most certainly all Gendai budo never used on the battlefield. In other words you learned budo not bujutsu. The #1 goal of budo is spiritual and character development, while the first priority of Katchu bujutsu is battlefield effectiveness.

In my opinion A hip throw is the only takedown that works no matter on how heavy your opponent is. Because unlike other takedowns I’ve learned, a hip throw is using your opponents body weight as momentum and your leverage shifting their weight over… Your a lever changing your fulcrum! So your carry them over not lifting them over, so it takes less energy. And if done right your opponent will be on the ground faster than a double leg. So it’s easier to learn than a normal single and double leg, my favorite part is that you can still have control over your opponent after you do it. And this is just from experience

If you are applying pressure to the carotid arteries, then it is a strangle, not a choke. A choke cuts off air flow. A strangle cuts off blood flow. Also, when applying the strangle, you should have one leg forward with your knee in the guy's back for your own stability, and align the tip of your elbow with the tip of his nose for good placement.
