The scenario itself is massive and spans all over the globe. Of course that would require 30-40 minutes to do so. So this is kind of an unofficial "Part 1", if people enjoy it, I'll flesh out the scenario more in later videos.
Err, coffee. It's now more widely drunk in Britain than tea. But then, in 2001, the most popular alcoholic drink in Ireland was vodka, believe it or not.
@@Jacksiloution I once saw someone in a comment section of a Gordon Ramsay video someone said, “ugh, Gordon isn’t from Britain, he is from Scotland” Lol
Harrison Shone true but he IS American, also France and Britain's colonial rivalries were most apparent in America; France likely wouldn't have had such a global empire, at least not as quickly, but they'd certainly be the dominant force in the new world and it's therefore the most important thing to focus on
At the beginning of the video I was excited since you said you were also considering the Dutch. Yet, you never mention them again. I think you underestimate the potential of the Dutch Provinces, since they too were in constant naval conflict with the English. It took the combined forces of French, English, and the strongest German states to knock them off the podium. This isn't just a Dutch person rambling. I love your scenarios to death, but I think you missed a potentially diverse one here.
They probably would have spread Protestantism as well to their various colonies, and may have taken a greater role in South Asia, Australia and the Eastern seaboard of America. However, sharing a land border with France may have been disadvantageous, as it would have made them vulnerable to invasion. Britain always had the advantage of being separated from the French by the Channel, which allowed them use their navy to make invasion far riskier than it would have been otherwise.
The Dutch thrived because they managed to abuse the rivalry between Great Britain and France, with a Dutch king on the British throne being the highlight. After that was no longer possible, the inevitable happened with GB kicking the Netherland's ass on the high seas. Sure, the Dutch managed to survive a combined attack from GB and France, but there was no way they could have sustained a lasting war. Without GB as counter weight, the Dutch would either be a French or Spanish province. Also keep in mind the Dutch got help from GB in order to become independent.
English isn't the 3rd most spoken, it's the 3rd most spoken when only considering native speakers. When you consider non-native speakers English is actually the most spoken language. The two languages above it, "Chinese" and Spanish, don't have all that much non-native support. (Chinese in quotes because the stats sites combine all the different Chinese languages, but that's a complicated matter better left up to language experts like Xidnaf)
I said all that much, not literally none. There's some in europe, and some in the southwest US. But nowhere near the global presence English has as a 2nd language.
Little did they realize that our universe is actually the contents of a "What if the Irish Empire never existed" AlternateHistoryHub video from another universe
@@Valencetheshireman927 And you should thank your god there's never been an Irish empire. At any rate, it's not in the Irish character to conquer and subjugate others. We might fight good af but that's usually when we've got a reason to do so.
The reason Ireland has never had an empire is because of its size especially compared to its neighbours. How can Ireland ( Population 5 million ) build an empire when the first land it would likely have to take is ENGLAND ( Population 55 million ) . Also I would argue that it is in the nature of the Irish considering its human nature and the Irish are human beings .
You should have covered the fate of India, since the Indian colony was a significant chunk of wealth for the British Empire. If an independent country had risen there long ago, it would have significantly affected geopolitics of the time.
The French were actually pretty involved in India, and almost seemed to hold the advantage for a time. Until the British got a ruthless governor that put them down.
There would not have been the worldwide industrial revolution because Newcomen only invented the steam engine to pump dry the coal mines that had been ordered by the English King to reduce charcoal usage because the wood was more needed to build Royal Navy ships used for empire building. So everybody in the world would still be living with 15th century technology and lifestyle, and slavery would be universal as this was only banned by the British Empire.
In a world without Britain France would be a superpower Dutch: Stop doing weed screaming Austrians: Heavy Breathing Screaming Spaniards: Silver Screaming Portugal: Confused Screaming Belgian: Scared screaming Luxembourg: terrified screaming Germans: horrified screaming British: Disgusted screaming Italians: Fortifications in Piedmont screaming French: *REVOLUTION SCREAMING*
Hente Hoo Probably very little would actually happen given that Finland didn't have the manpower to push deep into the Soviet Union, it would likely end in status quo.
but that's a victory because ussr generals wanted to annex Finland or make it a puppet in a german-like victory, a sovietic blitzkrieg ... they actually failed.
+Scrublord Mcgee Finland had two wars against the soviets. The Winter War was the first one which they won. The war OP meant is the Continuation War where Finland attack the soviets and lost.
i think the dutch would play a much greater than you give them credited to in this video because the dutch had a great trading imperium with a traiding vleet of V.O.C with 2500 ships and without the interferens of britton would beable to do much more then in oure timeline
sietze sietzema thats right because the dutch fleet was bigger than the french one but if we dont lost nieuw amsterdam we have a very big empire in america, south africa and asia
The Dutch may have had a strong navy, but they’d get completely decimated on land, hence they wouldn’t really have a strong colonial presence on the North American mainland. There’s a reason the Dutch lost New Amsterdam.
If there ever comes a part two where you discuss the rest of the world, i think you should play attention to the Dutch, because the Dutch had a massive Colony in South Africa and were the first to Discover Australia.
+Pipsy The Dutch 'discovered' that part of the world. Australia was named New Holland back in the days, New Zealand was named well.. New Zealand and Tasmania is named after the man who discovered it all: Abel Tasman.
Why the unnecessary quotation marks around 'discovered'? If you didn't know something was there, and then you learn about it's existence, you discover it. When I was in London, I discovered a great pub near the Thames. Does that mean that nobody else had ever been there or visited it? No, of course not. The fact that other people (e.g. aboriginal people) may have known about it before the Europeans did doesn't mean that they didn't discover it, since it was unknown to them. If the Aborigines had sailed to Europe, we could say they had discovered Europe (without 'quotation marks'), because it would have been true.
Psycho Flicks Productions Britain isnt as small as people make it out to be. Sure its not big like Africa or Greenland but its not so small that you can walk from one coast to another in a day or two. It would be like walking from Washington state to New Mexico or like walking from Denmark to Venice which would include you walking through the length of Germany, into Austria, then Switzerland and then into Italy. Not a short distance. The greatest distance anyone can travel is 874 miles from JohnO'Groats to Lands End. Britain also has 17,819km of coast (11,072.2133 miles)
There's a novel about that actually. It's called "Back in the USSA". Also I think there was a very real possibility before the Russian Revolution where the USA could have turned communist. Huge number of the American population in the pre-war period were hard left wing supporters, and that only really changed in the 40s and 50s onwards when the McCarthyist witchhunts started rounding them up if they didn't keep their heads down.
Creates video about British Empire disappearing, ignores what happens to Britain's colonies in South America, it's states in Africa, it's nation of India and it's control over Australia and just decided to ramble about what happens in North america.
India is about the same scenario as in North America, as French colony and diplomacy in India were similar in nature of those of North America and they got only kick out of it thanks to the UK.
Don't forget China! Much of the British Empire's success and ambition was caused by (ironically) an insatiable lust for tea. The French weren't as interested in the beverage as us, so they wouldn't have done as much as us or had the economic power we did. The entire shape of the world would have been different, and the worst terrorist attack (Boston) would never have happened, because there'd be no tea to destroy. China would never have had an opiate problem, the Caste system might never have happened, and Texas wouldn't exist. Also, within France, the revolution might never have succeeded. With legions of soldiers from across the globe, as well as a more powerful economy (even though it wouldn't have been a British Empire economy, it still would have been a stronger one because more people to tax) the French Royals would've had the power to defeat the revolutionaries and the entire shape of the world would have been different. This video focuses too much on America, I agree. The implication is that France would just replace Britain everywhere but America, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Cultural differences meant differences in ambition and so the Earth and its history would be completely different. Maybe WW1 wouldn't have happened. Maybe the Allies would've lost. The problem is that British vs French history is so delicate and prone to major butterfly effect, making this a difficult hypothetical timeline. But skipping over that fact seems ignorant and to be honest very America-obsessed, as America is probably one of the least affected nations (and it still would be completely different).
Txtspeak The Ottomans were at their peak and the end of their supply line at the Battle of Vienna. It's unlikely they would expand too much further into Europe- but the Battle of Vienna made a much more definite and obvious cap on Ottoman Expansion.
Great video, your videos provide both an interesting history of our actual timeline as well as an interesting alternative path we could have taken as a species.
With their experience killing emus they would make loads of fancy hats with their feathers and make millions selling fanch hats to rich french people and australia would be the trade capitol of the world
so for the people who want to know about outside of New France: Australia, New Zealand, and the entire island of New Guinea would become dutch Guyana would probably get divided between Brazil and Venezuela Alaska would be part of Russia Mexico would be over twice its size most of Africa would be french and spanish most of south Asia would be french India/Pakistan would be portuguese and french the middle east would be part of the Ottoman empire and aboriginals wouldn't have to go through over a century of literal torture
Siddhant Sharma I don't really know about India... the only empire that really colonized India was the british, which doesn't exist the portuguese got there, but just settled for a bit before moving on to Indonesia and Macau the dutch also got there, but didn't really do much
LARAUJO Actually the Portuguese got Goa, Damãoand Diu, they had a monopoly of India until the Dutch came after along with the Danish and French, then Great Britain got most of India.
+That Guy kaiserreich: legacy of the weltkrieg is an alternate history mod for the games Hearts of Iron II, IV and Darkest Hour. It is about Germany winning WWI. basically, France and Britain have fallen to communism, Russia is a weak semi-democratic republic, the US is on the brink of civil war, China is a mess, and Germany is the hegemon of the world. It is a really interesting scenario and incredibly well made.
well English is 3rd most spoken regarding native speakers. But it is number one in most spoken regularly overall, 1.5 Billion people can regularly speak it in some shape or form.
No English is the most widely spoken language in terms of number when accounting for all speakers of the language. As mentioned above, for native speakers i.e. people born in countries whose official language is English for example, then English comes third behind Mandarin and Spanish
Pian You're forgetting that the concept of "Great Britain" that we are used to know wouldn't exist because there would be no isle, so the criteria to define the borders of its territory would be so subjective as the ones we used with France, Germany, Spain, etc. What we know as France, Germany and Scandinavia could be very different or doesn't exist, because it's impossible to know the people that would live in the lands that we call Great Britain since before the Roman Empire
Brandon Karstark But that's my point, Britain has created its own culture group because it was separated from the rest of the continent. If it wasn't separated then it would be just an extension of where it connected with the main land. The inhabitants course would be drastically altered as there is no see barrier to separate it from the other countries. The British culture group would never have been made of its unique blend of invaders as there would be one overriding group that whose culture would dominate Britain. Wherever the land connection was the Isles would be of their culture.
Pian Exactly, I only dont think it would be the French and German that would invade Great Britain, because in this scenario these countries wouldn't exist, but probably the Confederation of the Equator would, and would dominate that entire fucking region.
DelToro Perdedor No American Revolution. Without the American Revolution, France wouldn't see the extreme economic strain which lead to the Revolution.
Preston Jones that's quite debatable since France had plenty of political and social problems before the American revolution, debts following the 7 Year War (which might have gone very differently in this scenario) and an ongoing rivalry with Spain
Adolf Hitler Says the dude who didn't dare to strike and catch the British in Dunkirk, but had the balls to go against Big Red who he signed a non aggression pact with.
Actually there would be a very profound cultural difference today; Rastafarianism would never have existed. The Caribbean, at the very least, as well as afro-carribean populations in nations across the West, would be very different both from a cultural and a religious point of view.
This massively assumed the US was the most important colony of the british empire which I hate to break it to you it wasn't. The gem of the empire was india not america.
To be fair, the United States was and still is the most powerful and prominent country that was once a British colony, currently the strognest in the world.
Horricule if you're looking for economy, china 🇨🇳 is better, if you're looking for military, Russia 🇷🇺 is better. If you're looking for progress, Japan 🇯🇵 is better. The us is strong but still is overshadowed .
Nope, the Poles were the most dominant factor in Lithuanian lifes, most of the poltics were dominated by Poles, we created most of ur reforms, our armies were dominated by Polish culture. But of course we must also remember Lithuania for allowing this beautiful union between our nations. Thanks Lithuania.
This would be a pretty damn interesting TL; at the very least it would probably have a massive impact on the Napoleonic wars not to mention the course of the first world war (which was pretty much always going to happen no matter what)
Discussing which specific ethnic group contributed what is pointless, since what "Lithuanian" and "Polish" referred to back then was ones political nation (i.e. Belgian, Swiss) and not ethnic nationality (i.e. Kurdish, Romani). Someone like Mickevičius could be considered Polish, because he wrote in Polish, or Belorussian, because he was born in modern-day Belarus, or Lithuanian, because he and his family considered themselves Lithuanian, wrote mostly about Lithuanian history and had never even set foot in modern day Poland while he was alive. History and nationality is so interwoven in Eastern Europe, especially before the Spring of Nations, that it's pointless to split hairs which nation contributed what...
IskenThink also the fact that a main reason why the Netherlands lost much of their power was because of the rise of power of the United Kingdom. if they would have never been, the only reason for this decay would have been the French. The fact that there would be one major power instead of two would have great impact on the spread of power as their power would not have become so mere.
IskenThink Do you really think tiny netherlands can stand a french invasion by land? The low countries would not be lucky enough to be surrounded by sea, as special little UK was, in a conflict in the scale of the 7yw or the Napoleonic wars. The only reason britain was never razed to the ground was because they could safeguard themselves from huge militaries like Spain, France and Prussia/Germany with their navy. No way a flatland like the Netherlands could compete with the french in the global scenario as england did, they would be defeated as soon as they posed a threat to France's dominance.
slice0909 in the golden age the dutch republic with its vast wealth managed to defeat an alliance of France, England and some German rulers. Granted the war with France took long like 30 years i think, but after the alliance was defeated it was basically a stalemate between France and the republic. If England was out of the mix i highly doubt France could steam roll the dutch.
beardetmonkey Yeah exactly not by any means would France steamroll the Dutch but it would definitely win in an attrition war. However now that I think of it, why did Spain lose the Eighties Year war when NL was by no means powerful. Mostly because Spain was near bankruptcy because of wars with the Ottomans (I am pretty sure). So maybe in a fictional scenario France (as hegemony) would also be tired of many wars with regional powers. Either way I think this is Alternate History one of its most sloppy episodes clearly overlooking Portugal and the Netherlands or even Scandinavian nations as a potentional regional power.
Hmmmm What if the British Empire never existed? I wouldn't be able to order take-away Chicken Korma with onion Baji and garlic naan!!!.. .. Poppadoms too!
@R We'd also still be tucking into fish & chips, sunday roast, full English breakfast, bangers & mash and cottage pie. And without Indian cuisine we'd be spending less time on the toilet!
The British Empire is arguably the most influential empire/culture in human history, the true legacy of which cannot be measured in graphs. I will clarify my position as a subjective historian: Influential civilisations in history could be Persian Empires, Roman Empire/Byzantine, Chinese Han Dynasty, Mongol Empire and Spanish Empire all of those Civilisations had huge affects on their vast regional spheres of influence over prolonged periods of time. The British Empire/Commonwealth, the first global superpower, later becoming the only Hyperpower in world history - beginning early 16th century with North America and the Caribbean. Reaching its zenith between 1815 & 1922 “Imperial century” & started to collapse in the aftermath of WW2, relinquishing control of Hong Kong in 1997 being viewed as the end of empire. • Almost 1/3 of the countries in existence today were formed or founded by the British. • Important cities founded or built by the British across the world include New York, Boston, Sydney, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vancouver, Cape Town, Dublin, Melbourne, Calcutta, New Delhi and London to list a few. • Maritime laws, governing all ships at sea regardless of nationality were laid out by the British 200 years ago. • Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) also known as Coordinated Universal Time, is still the world’s time standard, meaning all clocks are still set by British time. • British legal system (trial by jury) is used by around 25% of the world. • Over half the world’s nations use the British democratic system (parliamentary democracy) • Sports invented and codified in Britain include Football (most popular sport), Cricket (worlds 2nd most popular), Rugby, Golf, Badminton, Rounders/baseball, Snooker, Tennis etc. The Japanese department of Trade and Industry (MITI) launched a massive project to list every item currently used by humans. When the project finished they discovered that 54% of all things used by mankind today across the entire world, were invented or designed by the British, the rest of the world combined made up the other 46% (Japan's share - 5%) I will close with the contributions of Edward Jenner the pioneer of smallpox vaccine, the world's first vaccine. His work is said to have "saved more lives than the work of any other human” and Alexander Fleming’s for his discovery of the world's first antibiotic Penicillin. *I didn’t even highlight the contributions to Music, Art, Literature or science . Let alone the Industrial revolution, English language or often forgotten Abolition of Slavery - finally ending 3000+ years of human cruelty at its worst.
Kera Atkins >Reads calm rational explanation backed with evidence of why the world would be in a dark age without Britain. >Proceeds to say the world would be fine without Britain. *Slow claps*
You should do " what if the Greeks completed there Magali Idea, the reconquest of Greece and western Anatolia in mostly the 19th and early 20th centuries " what would this do to the world today? Would we see a restoration of The Byzantine empire and would we see the Imperial city of Constantinople returned to this new Greek empire and Christianity. I think this topic has a lot potential. Also this would be my favorite of your videos yet. Sorry for the Paragraph.
The prophecy of Constantine Rising again was entirely set. It seemed coincidental that a Greek King by name of Constantine would retake the city. I wish it had happened, but at the same time, the byzantines wouldn't be as legendary if they rebuilt. Pretty tragic that the prophecy never happened yet
Not at all. I would love to see that video as well. If you had written yours down in the comments and I saw it I would have liked it as I did this one. Out of the two I might even prefer yours because Reallifelore just came out with a video if the Islamic Empire reunited today which has more similarities to your idea than the Greek one. Why did you assume I was racist?
Miguel Maestas Because when I see a Greek (or someone) in those videos, they say us those. And we say them the same. I hate it. If it's bad or something for you, sorry. I'd like a Byzantine one too.
Cody, I really enjoy your stuff, and you are really good about most flags and their use, but I do believe you are displaying the Union Jack upside down (on the little British guy at least) to quote our friend Wikipedia, “While the flag appears symmetric, the white lines above and below the diagonal red are different widths. On the side closer to the flagpole (or on the left when depicted on paper), the white lines above the diagonals are wider; on the side farther from the flagpole (or on the right when depicted on paper), the converse is true. Thus, no change will be apparent when rotating the flag 180 degrees, but if mirrored the flag will be upside-down.” As an amateur vexillologist, I had to say something... sorry... Otherwise, awesome job on keeping is informed on the multiverse!
Noah Kuruvilla I can't find it if you are referring to the video what if the british empire re united today that is a different thing as It does not take any into account how events would have changed
+Txtspeak Not for me it isn't. My country would be in far far worse state if Britain still controlled it. Considering they held it for 700-800 years and consistently abused and basically genocided the population, I doubt much would've changed. (Ireland btw)
It likely would. The landmass would still be there, and the man whom America was named after was Portugese. As for the United States of America, that's another thing entirely.
"... like a candle, it burned hot and faded very fast." Buddy, do you know what a candle is? It specifically continues burning for a long time. Like, that's its whole purpose.
Hey, I really liked the video but there is something that I just can`t understande. Wouldn`t the Portuguese be the big empire? You talked a bit about how France would just be bigger but the Portuguese were highly dependent on English industry and without them they`d have to industrialize and grow their empire even more. Also, you only talked about North America and didn`t talk about the rest of the world wich would make the Portuguese even a greater empire. It surelly was a nice video but there aren`t any reasons for France being the big empire that you say, even if they tried to colonize the parts where the Portuguese were it would probably happen the same thing that happened when they invaded the nowdays Rio de Janeiro and tried setting up a colony of their own. (where they were quickly kicked out)
here's one that i've been thinking about recently: what if the greeks and romans concentrated all their imperial and colonial efforts on india and created a continous indo-hellenic culture?
Psycho Flicks Productions Russia was already breaming througj in the east by D-day. Germany would've still lost maybe a month or 2 later tho.The more interesting thing would be post war. With no foot hold in main land europe since dday failes France mignt go communist ans the whole cold war couldve played out very differently.
the Luftwaffe was in state to bomb the UK with al that US and UK airpower. and an German invasion is out of the equation as well. Germany lacked the naval power to fight the combined US and UK naval forces in the area. it would end in a Soviet dominated Europe.
WW2 would end the same way but most of Europe would be comunist and the cold war would end much diferent btw D-day is the most overrated invasion/battle in history
Nothing would happen they weren't able to bring enough colonists to North America I would assume that y would have a small colony like and they technically did stay demark still owns Greenland to this day which is technically part of North America
If the British Empire never existed: Scotland would join Scandinavia, England would have a rich political history, and Ireland would get invaded by France.
1.What if the Spanish Empire survived? 2.What if the Cubans attacked Florida in a land war in the 60s? 3.What if The British and French never occupy Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, and other middle eastern countries after World War 1? 4. What if the H.M.S. Hood was never sunk by the Bismarck? 5. And finally what if the White Russian army defeated the Red Army during the Russian Civil War?
Zeke Yeager 1. for that to happen it would have to change its entire economy, fast, which wouldve been very vulnerable. so its downfall was inevitable. 2. idk. 3. the allies would be in a worse place strategically for world war 2 and the modern conflicts in the middle east would be different (but still probably happen unless the empires lose the entire middle east before ww2) . 4. the royal navy would be alot more confident and morale would be very high seeings as 2 cruisers alone sunk a collosal battleship. 5. depending on wether the now victorious monarchy opts for fascism then Fascist russia could potentially be in the axis in WW2. Russia in the axis could potentially be a lot less powerfull than the USSR in our timeline depending if they are willing to industrialise because the USSR only industrialised to deal with the German threat but in this alternate timeline russia doesnt industrialise so plays a much smaller role in WW2. WW2 would still result in an allied victory because even if DDAY is a failiure there were british landings about to happen in scandanavia and Britain wouldve still beat Germany to the Atomic bomb. (and to any american fanboys British scientists spearheaded research into the atomic bomb, the only reason it was branded an “american” invention was because research on the device was given over as a scientific deal in the lend lease act)
English should be considered the most spoken language. Even if there are more native speakers of spanish and mandarin. there's still a lot more people that can speak english than any other languish.
Harambe Yeah he made a spelling mistake, so what? Native speakers do it all the time (just check the comments) and English is absolutely freaking boss-level impossible to spell correctly if you don't read it every day and live with it
Psycho Studios It would remain a small part of the fractured Holy Roman Empire and would eventually fall due to France, Austria, Hungary and the Duchy of Warsaw (assuming that France protects it)
Would the french revolution happen? Would Napolean win? Would India be united? What about Australia, New Zealand and South Africa? This Video really focused too much on North America imo. Still a great video, though :)
Kondura 1 the Enlightenment ideas would still win in France, but as there is no War of American Independence, the dept doesn't grow so the Enlightenment ideas would win through negociation and not revolution
Why wouldn't there be debt? It was pretty common for European powers to go bankrupt during a war (especially France). So, with France being even more involved in the new world and an even greater power, we can assume that a bankruptcy and a revolution could easily happen.
... until 1961, it was portuguese. Portugese language and the catholic religion still linger there. Same would be true in Niew Amsterdam, even if it fell to New France eventually
What if the Aztecs invaded Africa? Could they acquire a huge empire, gain new innovations such as gunpowder due to trade and eventually even attempt war with Europe starting with Spain? Or would the first colonists instantly contract smallpox or something and history plays out as normal?
Ben Spurrier If the Aztecs had such technology to do so, no fucking kingdom, country or empire would be able to defeat them, except for the Pernambucans and Sentinelese people
You forgot to mention that slavery would still be common place & accepted today. The British never put a stop to the Atlantic slave trade meaning Africa's Economy (which relied on the trade) wasn't decimated meaning that Africa wouldn't be so easily colonised & would probably be a world power to rival Europe today.
The scenario itself is massive and spans all over the globe. Of course that would require 30-40 minutes to do so. So this is kind of an unofficial "Part 1", if people enjoy it, I'll flesh out the scenario more in later videos.

Harrison Shone true but he IS American, also France and Britain's colonial rivalries were most apparent in America; France likely wouldn't have had such a global empire, at least not as quickly, but they'd certainly be the dominant force in the new world and it's therefore the most important thing to focus on
Yh i'm disappointed i thought he'd give us the alternatives of all the former colonies of the empire like southern africa and india .
North America was torn apart by France, Britain, and the Dutch. You think he’s focusing too much, but North America is the battleground of empires.

The Dutch rape my country in 3,5 centuries
they discovered oceania!

Ok thats enough masturbating now
CSDragon Spanish does have none native support, but not nearly as much as english.
I said all that much, not literally none. There's some in europe, and some in the southwest US. But nowhere near the global presence English has as a 2nd language.
now it is the 3 most spoken when add the non-natives.

There has never been an Irish empire . It did some piracy and invasions of Britain in the past but that’s about it .
@@Valencetheshireman927 ye missed the joke amigo
@@Valencetheshireman927 And you should thank your god there's never been an Irish empire. At any rate, it's not in the Irish character to conquer and subjugate others. We might fight good af but that's usually when we've got a reason to do so.
The reason Ireland has never had an empire is because of its size especially compared to its neighbours. How can Ireland ( Population 5 million ) build an empire when the first land it would likely have to take is ENGLAND ( Population 55 million ) . Also I would argue that it is in the nature of the Irish considering its human nature and the Irish are human beings .
Yeah , I get the joke now . 😂
You should have covered the fate of India, since the Indian colony was a significant chunk of wealth for the British Empire. If an independent country had risen there long ago, it would have significantly affected geopolitics of the time.
Perhaps the French might sadly try to colonize India if Britain was not there.
The French were actually pretty involved in India, and almost seemed to hold the advantage for a time. Until the British got a ruthless governor that put them down.
The French, and then the Russians would have dominated the Subcontinent. This wouldn’t have been a good time to be Indian.
India did not exist you clown, the British unified the Waring Kingdoms to create what you see today.

Come on Cody...
Hente Hoo Probably very little would actually happen given that Finland didn't have the manpower to push deep into the Soviet Union, it would likely end in status quo.
They did win
but that's a victory because ussr generals wanted to annex Finland or make it a puppet in a german-like victory, a sovietic blitzkrieg ... they actually failed.
Hente Hoo Finland pretty much did win besides losing a couple miles of territory, nothing would really change

i think the dutch would play a much greater than you give them credited to in this video because the dutch had a great trading imperium with a traiding vleet of V.O.C with 2500 ships and without the interferens of britton would beable to do much more then in oure timeline
I found that weird to, why does everyone always ignore us?
sietze sietzema thats right because the dutch fleet was bigger than the french one but if we dont lost nieuw amsterdam we have a very big empire in america, south africa and asia
I had so much trouble reading this
The Danish East India Company would have been more prevalent as well without interference from the British.
The Dutch may have had a strong navy, but they’d get completely decimated on land, hence they wouldn’t really have a strong colonial presence on the North American mainland. There’s a reason the Dutch lost New Amsterdam.
If there ever comes a part two where you discuss the rest of the world, i think you should play attention to the Dutch, because the Dutch had a massive Colony in South Africa and were the first to Discover Australia.
waijoehee weren't the Portugueses who discovered Australia?
+Pipsy The Dutch 'discovered' that part of the world. Australia was named New Holland back in the days, New Zealand was named well.. New Zealand and Tasmania is named after the man who discovered it all: Abel Tasman.
ArjanHier oh ok, I thought the Portugueses arrived first, thanks
Why the unnecessary quotation marks around 'discovered'? If you didn't know something was there, and then you learn about it's existence, you discover it. When I was in London, I discovered a great pub near the Thames. Does that mean that nobody else had ever been there or visited it? No, of course not. The fact that other people (e.g. aboriginal people) may have known about it before the Europeans did doesn't mean that they didn't discover it, since it was unknown to them. If the Aborigines had sailed to Europe, we could say they had discovered Europe (without 'quotation marks'), because it would have been true.
The Dutch could never hope to compete with France in the mainland and would get steam rolled in a war, and lost their possessions.
Britain isn't a tiny island, it's the 9th biggest island in the world
And Greenland.
Australia is a continent
Tobi Toes Glad I'm not the only one thinking that.
Greenland isn't as big, as you can see it on the map..

Creates video about British Empire disappearing, ignores what happens to Britain's colonies in South America, it's states in Africa, it's nation of India and it's control over Australia and just decided to ramble about what happens in North america.
India is about the same scenario as in North America, as French colony and diplomacy in India were similar in nature of those of North America and they got only kick out of it thanks to the UK.
yeah was a shit video

No English is the most widely spoken language in terms of number when accounting for all speakers of the language. As mentioned above, for native speakers i.e. people born in countries whose official language is English for example, then English comes third behind Mandarin and Spanish

What if Great Britain wasn't an island ?
Maxime A Then it would be part of a continent, a land mass like Pernambuco
Then Depending on where it was attached it would be either Norse, French or German and so nothing like what it is today.
So...what about the French Revolution?
Sad Face it wouldn't happen
Why?
DelToro Perdedor No American Revolution. Without the American Revolution, France wouldn't see the extreme economic strain which lead to the Revolution.
Preston Jones that's quite debatable since France had plenty of political and social problems before the American revolution, debts following the 7 Year War (which might have gone very differently in this scenario) and an ongoing rivalry with Spain
DelToro Perdedor At the very least, the Revolution woukd have been delayed, perhaps even by a few decades.

I think New Amsterdam would be bigger, same to with Swedish Delaware.
i think he undervalued the netherlands, they were quite the large colonial power

• Over half the world’s nations use the British democratic system (parliamentary democracy)
• Sports invented and codified in Britain include Football (most popular sport), Cricket (worlds 2nd most popular), Rugby, Golf, Badminton, Rounders/baseball, Snooker, Tennis etc.
The Japanese department of Trade and Industry (MITI) launched a massive project to list every item currently used by humans. When the project finished they discovered that 54% of all things used by mankind today across the entire world, were invented or designed by the British, the rest of the world combined made up the other 46% (Japan's share - 5%)

Miguel Maestas Because when I see a Greek (or someone) in those videos, they say us those. And we say them the same. I hate it. If it's bad or something for you, sorry. I'd like a Byzantine one too.
Make a video what if the British empire never died
The better world.
easy answer: the world would be a much better place
Yes it would be more civilised...
More tea
More tea and human rights abuse! Yay?
75% English/ Scottish 20% French 3% Irish 2% Italian. And I have an Italian last name. Go figure.
Looks like your english ancestors loved their neighbours ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
White Americans are basically just made up of the entire European continent.
Mine is 99% British and 1% Russian.
HVideos well no shit Sherlock
What dna test did you get?
Now do what if it never ended. Please.
Steven Wills He already did that video
They did that already, with the video "If British empire exist today"
the world would be more fucked
Noah Kuruvilla I can't find it
if you are referring to the video what if the british empire re united today that is a different thing as It does not take any into account how events would have changed
+Txtspeak Not for me it isn't. My country would be in far far worse state if Britain still controlled it. Considering they held it for 700-800 years and consistently abused and basically genocided the population, I doubt much would've changed. (Ireland btw)
What if the Kekistani genocide and Great Exodus didn't happen?
We'd all speak in memes
That is some Normie shit
America would never Exist.
Batman youre first mate😂
Batman and ww2 would of never of been won or ww1
Huhhhhhh yes because the Americans WON WWI all on there own its not like they sat around for 4 months trying to fix French weapons.
It likely would. The landmass would still be there, and the man whom America was named after was Portugese. As for the United States of America, that's another thing entirely.
Sir Blobfish Ik First liker too
"... like a candle, it burned hot and faded very fast."
Buddy, do you know what a candle is? It specifically continues burning for a long time. Like, that's its whole purpose.
And how about Africa, Asia, Oceania? How would the world's economic and political theatre look like.
i think the french influence would have stopped any dutch power
The Cape would still be rightfully Dutch!
Maak die Kaap weer Hollands!
And Australia (New Holland) and New Zealand and vast swaths of the East Indies etc.
The Ottoman Empire would have not collapsed this badly if there was no British empire
Kevin alper Yalcin you know the brits actually saved the ottoman empire in Crimea war and again. in the Balkan war?
Very enjoyable video, thx.
0:24 flag upside down
0:52 right side up

and right side up (rsu)
What if magic was real?
Mister Conflict It is, meme magic...
Cody did make an episode on mutants, and if you go Harry Potter's "only a few are gifted with the power of magic" then it would be pretty similar
What if God was real?
Not Harry Potter more like Elder scrolls or Warhammer type of magic
Dungeons & Dragons' Vacian casting or bust!
(where they were quickly kicked out)
here's one that i've been thinking about recently: what if the greeks and romans concentrated all their imperial and colonial efforts on india and created a continous indo-hellenic culture?
sounds...beautiful....
What if D-day failed/never happened
Psycho Flicks Productions Russia was already breaming througj in the east by D-day. Germany would've still lost maybe a month or 2 later tho.The more interesting thing would be post war. With no foot hold in main land europe since dday failes France mignt go communist ans the whole cold war couldve played out very differently.
the Luftwaffe was in state to bomb the UK with al that US and UK airpower. and an German invasion is out of the equation as well. Germany lacked the naval power to fight the combined US and UK naval forces in the area. it would end in a Soviet dominated Europe.
Psycho Flicks Productions At that point Germany was done.
WW2 would end the same way but most of Europe would be comunist and the cold war would end much diferent btw D-day is the most overrated invasion/battle in history
Wolfenstein
Can you do a "What if the Norse had stayed in North America?" video?
It would be pretty short. Eventually they'd get killed off by the native Americans.
Nothing would happen they weren't able to bring enough colonists to North America I would assume that y would have a small colony like and they technically did stay demark still owns Greenland to this day which is technically part of North America
What if the Iroquois Confederacy lasted until modern times?
If the British Empire never existed:
Scotland would join Scandinavia, England would have a rich political history, and Ireland would get invaded by France.
What if AlternatehHstoryHub never existed?
you wouldnt have commented that
+shantanu kulkarni *cries silently*
I love how the other countries "screech" in their own languages but the English screech is "reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" hahaha
If the British Empire never existed, SpiffingBrit wouldn't be making the transition from breaking games to breaking reality itself.
English should be considered the most spoken language. Even if there are more native speakers of spanish and mandarin. there's still a lot more people that can speak english than any other languish.
true i can speak english better than my own language some times
William .Thorén languish. That excludes you doesn't it?
Harambe Yeah he made a spelling mistake, so what? Native speakers do it all the time (just check the comments) and English is absolutely freaking boss-level impossible to spell correctly if you don't read it every day and live with it
I mene ceareossly, duzent itt cunfews ewe summ tyemse? Itt ise shirley difeckellt ife ewe asc mey
NBK Srbija yeah. Are you sure. Spanish is a much more complex language. And also you should take some clases in humor and how to understand it
What if Prussia never ended?
Psycho Studios It would remain a small part of the fractured Holy Roman Empire and would eventually fall due to France, Austria, Hungary and the Duchy of Warsaw (assuming that France protects it)
Patriota Wielkiej Rzeczpospolitej I think he meant post ww2, meaning what if prussia was never dissolved or being forced into indenpendance.
no one cares about prussia
The sun finally set on the British Empire.
Dr.StickFigure before it even began...
Dr.StickFigure technically no since the British still own islands all across the globe
dr.stickfigure no it still exists.
Dr.StickFigure It never died, no one knows our true power... once trump kills everyone... WE WILL ROSE AGAIN
Over Patriotic Brit is it really possible at all to build an empire in the 21st century?
*Tea left from your channel*
Would the french revolution happen? Would Napolean win? Would India be united? What about Australia, New Zealand and South Africa? This Video really focused too much on North America imo. Still a great video, though :)
Kondura 1 Yeah that's what I wanted too but cody seems to be wayyyy to america focused.
I agree. The Dutch rivals would fill in many gaps all over the world. They may even have taken the entire East coast of North America!
The Revolution only happened because France was bankrupt after losing it's Empire.
I think New Amsterdam would have still been a thing, but more of a Dutch outpost, akin to the Portuguese colony of Goa in India.
... until 1961, it was portuguese.
