Hey Jon, I am reaching out to all Elvis historians to solve a mystery. This question that has been bugging me since I saw the Elvis biopic and I was wondering if you have run across any information in your Elvis research? It's regarding Vernon and Elvis. In the Elvis biopic, there is a line near the end of the movie when Elvis confronts the colonel. The colonel says, " If you decide to leave, I for one will be lonely and so will your father." I know that the movies has a lot of historical errors, but there are alot of nuances that are supported by other books and interviews. It bugs me that this line is in the movie. Vernon would have been loyal to Elvis, not the colonel so why would Vernon be lonely? There's an inference that this would have been another manipulation by the colonel and that there's implication of a sort of blackmail tactic to make Elvis stay??? It always seems like the colonel, as genius as he was at promoting, had a dark side and not above these types of antics. Also, what's the scoop on Vernon's Hound Dog ranch? Do you know anything about why it seems to be such a secret? Thanks :)
The Colonel was hired by Vernon and Gladys. Vernon was loyal to Elvis but The Colonel would get a call when Elvis would overspend his checking. Vernon per the 1977 CBS Special said himself that The Colonel was an honest man. That scene in the movie was Hollywood liberty.
Sir, Jon is an idiot! Period! You shouldn’t be asking him anything! Most of what he sells is fake! Most of EPE don’t even know what to think of this man. He is trying to become someone in life! My father, Joe Esposito, would have hated this movie! Most of it is BS! How do you leave out the most important people in Elvis’ like?! The answer to your question is no! My dad and I talked about Elvis for many years and that period of Elvis’ career fascinated me the most! But please, to all the fans, if it don’t come straight from the horses mouth, don’t believe anything Jon says concerning Elvis Presley. He is just another one trying to capitalize off of Elvis!
