"It was poetic license that made me carve our names on the table and poetic justice when you made your boyfriend sandblast it off" - the genius of Jad Fair. The early David Fair tracks (e.g. Dream Date) are a real blast too. A real treasure trove.

these guys may not be the best musicians, but they're some of the most authentic. They're simultaneously a deconstruction of rock, while also being totally outside of rock. They never try to be anything but themselves. They're not making a political statement, they're not trying to be rich or famous. They just are. There's nothing commercial about them, they're not catering to anyone. It's not that they don't care about being good, they're so far outside of music tradition that they don't even know what being good means. I think that's what Cobain saw in them. That's why I've started listening to them, at least.
Can't sleep. Recalling another band that my too cool, lame hipster ass was obsessed with 20+ years ago. Now I'm just 42 & lovelorn & either recovering or high & pacing my last days
I was lucky and lived in DC from 82 - 92 and saw this band many times. Sing No Evil through Charmed Life was a great period of live shows, sort of Jad's big band phase as sometimes the band would swell up to 8 or more musicians. Fun times.
Even better with time. I don't agree with all of Cobain's musical tastes but this is one where he got it right. It's admirable how consistenly good this is considering the length, not a single throwaway in the entire bunch. Listening to the whole recording is quite an experience. Dork Rock at one of its best.
I notice only 8 or more of their earlier artisticly weird or primitive songs are thrown in the mix such as Rosemary's baby, School of love, I know how it feels bad, The worst i've ever done, No more beatlemania, Calling all girls, Mono, Dream date. Needed more songs from Horrible and Loud albums. Jad Fair's best solo albums are his first 2 lps, Everyone knew but me(child like vocals nerdy weird in love songs and songs about monsters) and Best wishes(weird clown art collapsing multi-layored instrumental songs). A newer 2018 album im really happy with is For everyone by David meets Jad and Jason. Great effort and weird clown like songs with child like vocals, reminds me of Everyone knew but me songs but different, lov it.

hey guys I just came here to say I have made 100s of songs and that not all of them are yet on my page and well I never wanted 2 be an advert but now I'm like whatever idk and more importantly I really came here to say that as bullshit as this sounds if had not been for half japanese I would have not recorded a single song and they are my inspiration throughout the music and that yeah cool
No one will ever out-Fall The Fall, (The Fall rarely use any kind of horn, except on a very few songs like Leave The Capitol) ... but what's certain is Firecracker QUADRUPLES Half Japanese! It's one of their best songs!
He sounds like a geeky boy Lou Reed, with a delicious side dish of Gordon Gano (of the fab Violent Femmes!) ....maybe with a bit of Kim Deal! (while she was in The Breeders) :D
2023 - and I am a fan. Thumps up also this year.
I was one minute into this and was LOVING it! 18 minutes later and that feeling has only increased. Damn! I wish I'd heard of these guys years ago!

Thank God for KRAMER and JOHN PEEL.... There's nothing like this anymore. Music is pallid wasteland of mediocrity now.

Hey your comment really spoke to me. I wish I had something positive to say but you’re not alone in this struggle 💜
the future was cancelled.

Yes, Loud and Horrible have a pretty unique sound. This greatest hits would have benefitted from Thing With a Hook and High School Tonight.

I prefer to not work out every day; gives the body some much needed down-time to recover. Props for the music taste though.
genius Jad
great Lo-Fi band great best album
thank you!
2hours of perfection. Thanks Nova Feedback
#9 This Could Be the Night..... damn good song
Cobain brings me here and this band so crazy in a good way)
Дмитрий Денисов Me too
Just what I needed. Refreshing album!
What an album, wow
pretty slick album. Having spent to much time in Ann arbor I speak from a position of authority.
what this guy said is 101% true.

WOW!!! So Cloud 9 really does exist.....
It was my birthday yesterday, but now that I have this...it's my birthday every day.
Where the F*uck is "Ashes on the Ground" !? These guys blew my mind 30 years ago and still do.
Ahhh, true analog sound always sounds refreshing in this age of over-produced,digitilized glossygloop
you do realise that youtube is digital right?
haha this is great, thanks so much for posting! >:)
Also sometimes he sounds a lot like Ira Kaplan, both guitar-wise and vocally, like on Big Mistake
After going through a Fall phase recently, coming back to 1/2 Japanese I'm liking these guys a lot more
Was thinking of the Fall when starting to listen to this too.
These guys are so whiny-nosed nerdy they make Jonathan Richman sound like Heavy Metal.
+SWOTBWOT They make my taint twitch.
50 Skadillion watts of fine musical artistry radiating out into deep space forever and there's nothing you can do about it.
The very best

チャッ‼素敵です
as much as i like this band it's not easy to listen to 2 and a half hours. haha. almost done tho!
Firecracker actually manages to out The Fall The Fall.
Apologies, but I cannot agree (I understand that it is not required that I do)

Yeah,
Half Japanese are ALL superb! \o/
A little bit more
former avant rock musicians sound fresher. I cite Pere Ubu or Capt. Beefheart of Trout Mask Replica because I'm a sadist.

i came to check it out cause i saw a video relating to them, but i don't see the appeal. sounds whiney...
but to each his own when it comes to music.
