Fought is name was mavers great guy's though why I'm always watching the footage he has a brother Gary actor the scouser in peak practice I know which one I admire more
Have the original album on vinyl. No idea why I decided to look for them at 5am this chilly December morning. Hoping Lee still has this talent and mindset, god knows how many years on. Tremendous talent.
lee mavers best performance. and it saddens me to say that because i know if any of us were lucky enough to be in his presence when he played, im talking just him and his guitar, we would say the same. sadly the world will never get to see or appreciate fully this mans talent and pure ability. if we are talking just one man and am acoustic guitar only lennon and marley can compete in my opinion.
That’s why Steve Lilywhite who has worked with the worlds biggest artists like McCartney, U2 etc said in terms of being able to sit with an acoustic guitar and give a great performance of a great song, Mavers was the best he ever worked with
beautifull eyes as david bowie, cocky attitude as lou reed , powerfull voice&words as john lennon , nervous guitar play as joe strummer ....this guy had everything.. his look at the camera , his jaws movement full of anger . you are totally right : THIS IS (one of the top 5?) better single greatest "unplugged" performance ever ...( and omg who's that girl ???she's so ... a serious source of motivation !) thanks for the upload
He was a primal force that La..john powers backing vocals..unequalled...wish Lee would get it together and record the crescent tapes etc...i think Rick Rubin would harness Lees inner demons❤
They really were the real deal! so much so that Lee said 'fuck it I'm out!' the moment the industry fucked with his art. And Jesus does that voice reach into your soul.
Like a lot of people only knew of There she goes before then Liam gallagher posted on his twitter few years back a link to The Las -Over saying they were closest thing to the beatles gave it a listen before finding the album and never looked back. This is by far my favourite performance from Lee on the guitar and vocals to John's backing vocals its simply the complete performance.
Top song heard it years ago during a band break at the Liverpool Uni whilst sitting at the back manufacturing a special cigarette (for a friend of course!) ..can't remember who we were watching at the time but thought I've got to know who and what that is, more than 20 later still listen to it, regular like.. magic
If only Lee had ur attitude 😂, he'd have 100 billion in his bank and statues all around the world, that guy ( and also John power ) are a pair of total fucking legends, id do anything to spend 10 mins speaking to either of these guys, I feel robbed missing the la's being born in 85 but as noel says...true perfection has to be imperfect, were lucky we can look back and see these performances, I hope youtube's still around in 50 years when we're all gone and another generation can enjoy this stuff coz I don't believe anything in 50 years time could come close... nothing from the last 30 years has
up with the roses no danger!simplistic beauty all the way.i hope he records this new gear and not smoke it with the babyshambles!talent immense, talent immense!
I don't get it. Supposedly the La's undoing was Mavers' insistence that they weren't being recorded properly. Yet there they are in a TV studio, total off-the-cuff performance, and it sounds awesome. Do an MTV Unplugged, make an album from it, and move on to another project!
this is the kind of way he wanted to be recorded but the machine was not gonna bend to a stoned scouser, although he got "over" released ....so the la's in their purest form exist in these videos and it's a great thing we can watch these moments that people at the time could never watch in the uk this being in canada
@thatloserjess I heard an interview with John Power on radio yesterday, Cast are doing another album but he said he wasnt gettingthe La's back together but they are friends again - time will tell!
thanks for editing this was sick of havin to listen to that interviewer talk shite till they played the song everytime. great accoustic version of a great song!
@@matt-dp1kfthe la's ain't rock mate but at least they know how to handle their drugs without blowing their brains out ffs, Lee prob done more drugs in a week than Kurt in his whole life, american bands just ain't it, never have been, never will be
What is the last line of the first verse before the chorus (00:32), lyricsfreak.com says it's "Brushing the hands of time away" but it blatantly isn't, unless he completely fudged it. It sounds more like "Brushing the sight of town away?"
I like this version better than what I guess ended up on the album. I've heard they had difficulty deciding what version of a lot of their songs to do. Kind of a cool problem to have!
It's cool to see how many other folks dig it. Thanks are due to the person who posted this video. By the way, I thought I ought to say "Gooble goo goo gobble goo goo" even though it's not really relevant.
i wonder how many acoustic guitars this band owns/owned. in every video they seem to have different ones. strange i imagine a band like the la's would be broke.
@telecaster269- this band and so many others took that music,British 60's quality rhythm n blues bands,U.S. 'garage',you mention Jefferson Airplane n that other Liverpool band, and made their own sound.Liverpool n Manchester bands bossed the 80s/90s
Anyone else just keeps coming back to this?
Its so good
Yep.😁
Knew I couldn't be the only one!
Yep...had this tape back in the day...one of the best acoustic performances I've seen!
Yeap 😊
Yes!
man. i love John Powers backing vocals.
reddkross1977 me too
It is indeed fucking amazing! :-)
It's clearly a song about that feeling you hear when you listen to a song you love.
I actually saw them in 1987 at some small club in Liverpool. I can't remember the of the club but I really enjoyed the show.
Cool.story
Too bad they broke up, great music! Kind of reminds me of the British music from the mid sixties. They need to get back together!!
Fuck this is brilliant, the snap in the wrist on the strings and vocals that are out of this world!
This is pure gold!
YESSSSS!
Youth and talent out in the clear, and wide open... God, how invigorating.
I love the interplay of the two vocals on this song. I love that Mayers plays the other guitar with his voice during the bridge.
Fought is name was mavers great guy's though why I'm always watching the footage he has a brother Gary actor the scouser in peak practice I know which one I admire more

Caverman "all i want is the truth, just gimme some truth"
I like this version the best because there's like a manic tone to the performance, it's slightly unsettling.
Mavers was a total scouse legend and still is.
Lee Mavers singing his paean to God. The man was truly blessed (and cursed).
I must watch this 4 times a week. Fucking beautiful version, that vocal is amazing. Big video for this me man, perfect 👌🏻
I'm yet to find a better acoustic performance

There are none to be found
That’s why Steve Lilywhite who has worked with the worlds biggest artists like McCartney, U2 etc said in terms of being able to sit with an acoustic guitar and give a great performance of a great song, Mavers was the best he ever worked with
Neil young hey hey my my live aid 1985 is a great one with harmonica.
Agreed
This is even better than the album version. One of the best live performances ever.
beautifull eyes as david bowie, cocky attitude as lou reed , powerfull voice&words as john lennon , nervous guitar play as joe strummer ....this guy had everything.. his look at the camera , his jaws movement full of anger . you are totally right : THIS IS (one of the top 5?) better single greatest "unplugged" performance ever ...( and omg who's that girl ???she's so ... a serious source of motivation !) thanks for the upload
Erica Ehm, MuchMusic VJ
From America, I love The La's.
This should be the national anthem of the world.
😃
never forgotten.timeless melody timeless memories.music needs to get back to this
feels like a folk song. just beautiful.
no pretensions, no bs, "from the root". i think this is my new favourite tune. it has something sort of distant but pwerful
He was a primal force that La..john powers backing vocals..unequalled...wish Lee would get it together and record the crescent tapes etc...i think Rick Rubin would harness Lees inner demons❤
Never heard of this song....I can't stop playing it
Every time I listen to this song I get emotional it's that good one of the best performance I've ever seen because it's pure class!
They really were the real deal! so much so that Lee said 'fuck it I'm out!' the moment the industry fucked with his art. And Jesus does that voice reach into your soul.
And the backing harmony. Unreal
I love this! Thanks for posting. I love how he sings the guitar solo.
the words fail me... to say how much i love this song :)
love it, la legends
I cant stop watching this
Amazing , great performance , it's great to get a clear sound of this wonderful song. Perfect
Like a lot of people only knew of There she goes before then Liam gallagher posted on his twitter few years back a link to The Las -Over saying they were closest thing to the beatles gave it a listen before finding the album and never looked back. Me too! I met him before the Stone Roses gig in Milano... A true gentleman! ;D
listen to it loads of times love their voices

love the scat bits Mr Mavers throws in !
What a talent
If you look in your mind do you know what you will find? Open your mind.
Words to live by.
How’s a brick wall gonna do that?
This is so good, it hurts me.
the word "epic" springs to mind.
Genius!!!
Such a shame these guys didn't conquer the musical world. So much better than most of the new stuff thats out at the moment.
Absolutely.
Thanks for all the covers mate.
koysid
This is awesome!!!!
Just crushes it! Otherworldly
pure talent kicks the arse off the album version
this is perfection.

Ah one of my teen casssette tapes ! Great to find a video here
Mavers was a genius. Probably still is somewhere.

Kinda reminds me of Peter and Gordon in the sixties. Great song!
Spectacular performance from mavers
Perfect in every way

Pure talent xx
Gold!
Ladies and gentlemen on backing vocals. ....... MR JOHN POWER 🤌
@RayFinkle88
Maver's is truly a great musician. Can't believe they didn't get huge. But I just thank God that He put these music men before us.
I don't get it. Supposedly the La's undoing was Mavers' insistence that they weren't being recorded properly. Yet there they are in a TV studio, total off-the-cuff performance, and it sounds awesome. Do an MTV Unplugged, make an album from it, and move on to another project!

Mersey magic..

Just well scouse this
Interviewster is beautifull. So is the song, damn!
If I were asked to give them feedback, I would say, try this song but with both of you singing continuously together.
Mavers is simply the greatest
beatiful solo by mavers
"Melody finds me?" Well? Fucking yes; it fucking does. Cheers.
still the bollocks of a song, times passed but still gives me the same buzz, conviction.
Fucking brilliant
All American bands knew they had to up their game at this point. Hairspray and bullshit wasn't gonna cut it at this point.
I’ve never heard of The La’s putting the U.S. rock scene on notice. As far as I know, that was Nirvana.
Fk u on about?
@@matt-dp1kfthe la's ain't rock mate but at least they know how to handle their drugs without blowing their brains out ffs, Lee prob done more drugs in a week than Kurt in his whole life, american bands just ain't it, never have been, never will be

It's silent hour .bro
I remember this well. SECRET RADIO CFBX
I sure wish that this version was iTunes
what the fuck just happened? space-time portal opened - watch out if u look in Lee's eyes, he looks back at you
I like this version better than what I guess ended up on the album. I've heard they had difficulty deciding what version of a lot of their songs to do. Kind of a cool problem to have!
@robertodowneso- and not just The La's either. Fellow Liverpool band, Real People, are on rec ord as influencing Oasis, in a direct fashion.
Wish there was a version that matches the quality or their performance
It's cool to see how many other folks dig it. Thanks are due to the person who posted this video. By the way, I thought I ought to say "Gooble goo goo gobble goo goo" even though it's not really relevant.
@lmavlen1313
Thank you! Awesome guitar!
sweet song and that bird is real hot.......
like an egg that was cracking nicely but then its beautiful insides died, i'm still fukn gutted now 2020.
WHO can dislike this!?!!
where can i download this song in acoustic??
i like this version
i love his rough voice. u dont get voices like tht anymore
i wonder how many acoustic guitars this band owns/owned. in every video they seem to have different ones. strange i imagine a band like the la's would be broke.
They started off just borrowing gear from other bands that were playing but I imagine they saved up all the money they each got
Dunno about broke. Lee Mavers owns some expensive Martin acoustics, original 50’s Fender telecasters, gretsch’s, etc. Still to this day I believe..
any1 knows if this version is on spotify
yowzer, fantazzzz

The interviewer asks that question after that sublime performance!?!?! She obviously hadn't a clue!
