Another fun fact, Walt and Roy were so pleased, they rented a space near the Hyperion Lot, called the Doll Shop for Charlotte and her crew of seamstresses to work on the Mickeys! They made nearly 400 a week!
I’ve been collecting pre-World War II Mickey Mouse toys for over 40 years I have one of the largest toy collections of mickey mouse in the world other than two other guys the first Mickey Mouse doll had a patent that was applied for in 1929 and it was produced by the Dean’s rag book company of London Charlotte Clark dolls came afterwards Disney rejected many different Mickey Mouse dolls from various manufacturers George borgfeldt of New York was the sole distributor of all the imported Mickey Mouse toys and he would apply the nifty toy line logo which was his distributing department of Toys he did not manufacture them he just labeled them nifty toys
Glad you enjoyed! If you ever think of a topic or something you want to know more on... don't hesitate to let me know! I am always looking for suggestions!
I was honestly thinking the same thing, with the rationing of supplies, yet they were able to obtain all that fabric and buttons... just to provide a little magic around the world with a Mickey Plush!
I purchased today a similar Mickey in Bern, Switzerland. He is also in quite bad condition, but I simply couldn’t resist the temptation to get one of those very early Mickeys. Some years ago we were lucky to purchase a Steiff Mickey in perfect condition. We found it in a shop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. According to the seller the previous owner, a 90 years old lady, took the Mickey with her when she came from Germany to Brazil when she was a kid. One of my really bad decisions in life was to sold an early Minnie Mouse, a big doll in perfect conditions. We thought that it took too much in our apartment.
Thank you so much for sharing! What an incredible story you have- and I know that I too have my list of bad decisions when it comes to letting go some of my Disney Treasures!

I know this is an older video but I’m very curious about this. Could you tell what materials were used in the original production of this plush? I’m looking to recreate this using the original McCall sewing pattern from 1933, but I would really like to use the same types of materials they would have used in the 1930s. Modern plush materials have a nicer feel, but I really want to try using what those original plushes were made out of.
Hello Thomas, as for material, different companies used different styles. Most of the Charlotte Clark versions had a black, fuzzy texture- while most of the other material was a dyed thick cotton.
I was there at the right time, wrong Mickey lol. I really wanted to own an original 1930s Mickey, but the professional ones are very expensive still. The Mickeys were so popular, that not long after the release of this style, Charlotte Clark would create patterns for a 'make your own' Mickey!
Honestly though, its been really helpful and has helped me feel more confident... as I am having a harder time seeing my little notes! I use a script, just as I do when I teach, because I get excited and digress, so I need a bulleted list of things I want to say!
Its a gift, I guess lol. Did you know Clark created patterns for Donald Duck, Pluto, Minnie Mouse and other popular characters which were licensed and produced by manufactures world-wide?

I was recently visiting a friend who had a Military Donald Charlotte Clark. He said it's one of the rarest Clark Dolls EVER!
That was quite an impressive Donald! never seen anything like it.
I agree, but the Goofy was still pretty cool! I'm honestly surprised he didn't have any of the Gremlin ones!
This is seriously the coolest thing ever. I want to come cuddle him.
lol very "well loved"
You HAVE to check out the Knickerbocker Cowboy Mickey... he is ADORABLE!
