The concept of using plexiglass to demonstrate is one of the greatest ideas in how to videos I’ve seen on RUclips. Well done, guys. Thank you so much. I learned a lot from this video.
Plexus glass is a nice demo but it doesn’t show the challenges of the actual thickness of thick drywall and a lot of apartments that have metal studs that have a much smaller gap in the middle. This is a nice demo though.
If you are using a fixed or tilt mount you can mount a bigger TV, depending on the weight. If you are hanging more the. 70lbs TV, I would put the toggle bolts at least through two metal studs. See our metal stud toggle bolt video.
Great video! I'd like to hang a 50" tv which weighs 27 pounds on a full-motion stand like this one. DX-HTVMM1703-C The wall has metal studs and Geek Squad said it can't be done without more wall supports. I need it to swing 45 degrees and be fully extended because of an angled wall. Which full-motion wall mount would you recommend? I'd probably use the elephant type items to secure it. Thanks again.
Can 4 metal studs (in a condo) + elephant anchors hold 87 lbs? The TV will be held flush against the wall (it's the LG 77" GX OLED) so no articulating arm.
Yes. It can. I believe the horizontal length of the wall mount is 16”? And you are sEcuring it to the 2 studs in 4 different locations? 2 anchors in each stud?
@james ho That will work great. You can add one toggle in the middle of the top row if your mount has a hole in the middle. Elephant Toggle bolts can be used directly on drywall as well.
@@LeslievilleGeeks I don’t have any faith on drywall providing much help. I do have some shorter 2x4 wooden blocks screwed to the metal studs so I should be able to move those up and use that instead of just drywall. I can’t find anything online about the holding/shear strength of hollow metal studs with those anchors so I wasn’t sure how strong they would be. I guess it also depends on the gauge of the metal as well. But great video - super helpful! Thanks!
Ya. It is. I had never seen and understood the dynamics of metal studs, as they are very uncommon. Until I started mounting TVs 12 years ago. So we decided to show all of you what really a metal stud using a plexi glass.
Titanium Coated High Speed Steel (HSS) with pilot head. it is the best for metal studs. It comes with the CONDOMOUNTS METAL STUD mounting kit. You can google and find it, its sold on amazon. The size is 1/2 Inch. 0.5 inches.
This is for metal so a any regular drill will be good. You need a drill bit for metal. You can get it at most hardware stores too. They might be more expensive purchase individually. SDS or SDS plus is perfect for concrete/brick/cinder block. You need a SDS hammer drill for that.
Hey, thanks for this video it is great! Do you think I can do the same if the TV mount is for one stud? Like: Kanto PS400 30" - 70" Full Motion TV. But of course, using the toggle bolts like the ones you used, those are up to 200lb I think, but more concerned if the 1 metal stud can take the load.
We will not recommend one stud mounting for full motion tv mounts on metal studs. Unless it’s a 42” tv and below. May be 50” Max if the weight is less then 30lbs. You have to consider that the full motion mount is heavy and the further the tv comes out the wall, the tensile force increases allot. The TV may not fall of the wall but the tensile force when the tv is stretch out is going to weaken/bend/warp your wall over time. These metal studs are not solid or high gauge. What size is your TV that you intent to mount?
@@LeslievilleGeeks it's a 55" (44lbs). Building is newer and it's above a fireplace, area, so I'm limited with a stud at the middle above of the fireplace, and stud 16 inches either side, usually stands mounts are not 32" long to fix on 3 studs. I'm not planning to extend it always, only turn it to one side, sometimes, but mostly flat. So the one arm is designed for up to 70" and planning to use the toggle bolts like yours.
I have a 65" tv and aluminium studs with I think half inch drywall over the studs, I believe they're spaced 16" apart I want to mount the TV but I'm paranoid about the integrity of the wall and risking damage to a TV is there a way to maybe reinforce it? Or any other advice? The aluminium studs seem thin I'm just worried..thanks for any help..

I'm using a stud finder with a "metal" and wire detector and the metal thing is basically going off 90% of the time as i bring it along the wall.. no idea whats behind the wall but im sure its metal studs all along.. I want to mount a tv but never did it. Not sure if the finder is accurate..
Best way to find metal studs is using a magnetic stud finder like the c.h Hanson magnetic stud finder. www.amazon.com/CH-Hanson-03040-Magnetic-Finder/dp/B08L14GDWJ/
It is an exterior wall? The cavity might me full of insulation that what is triggering your electronic stud finder to trigger. I like the magnetic stud finder because it does a greater job by finding the drywall screw which was used to screw in the drywall into the studs.
Let us know how it goes. We would love to help you till it’s completed. And if there is any extra videos we can make to help you solve the problem, let us know.
Love the plexi glass idea. Im looking to mountba speed bag in basement w metal studs and this helps conceptually. Would you recommend drilling into a wood board on drywall or would these elephant anchors be strong enough? Thanks so much
Its an antique heavy piece of wood, its fat and close to the door. I was really try to find the official manufacturer weight ratings for these studs but couldnt find any, so i turned to youtube:)

You are welcome Gina. Appreciate your feedback.
Isn't that the best video of all the internet?
I’m not even mounting a tv but this popped up and was interesting and oddly soothing to watch. Thanks for that lol

Got a shelf i want to hang. Can i just use regular screws made for metal or do i need that metal thing he stuck in there
If you want to place heavy items on your shelve this is the solution.
what 'type' of drill bit to use? Carbide? Split? Titanium?
Titanium coated you get better lifespan. Does not go blunt as fast. The pilot head helps to makes the initial hole.
