I think he said he broke his neck during a sketch about the Golden Girls. He was playing Rose and he lurched backwards in his chair and broke his neck. What is so ironic is that his character in the sketch was reported as suffering a severe injury because of a stunt he did imitating the Golden Girls. The sketch is on SNL website. It is called "MSNBC Investigates".
