Anticipated topic. Helpful !!! 👍 Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
this was helpful!
Hi! I have a quick question that’s unrelated to the video. I have a Jian Shui pot that I’ve been using for about 8months for green teas. Maybe about 40 tea sessions. I was wondering if I could switch the type of tea that I’m brewing in it or if it’s too late and has already taken on flavor of the green teas. Thanks!
Great question! The seasoning process takes a very long time before any residual flavor is apparent in the clay. Particularly for lighter teas (like green) that are not aged or roasted (and therefore don't possess the intense flavor notes that come from these processes), it is unlikely that the clay will ever taste like green tea, let alone after 40 tea sessions. The easiest way to test this would be to pour pure hot water into your teapot and then serve into cups to taste. If it doesn't taste like tea to you, then you can absolutely switch to a different tea. The value of clay teapots lies more in how the mineral content and porosity of the clay interacts with the tea while brewing, often improving texture and finish; the stories about being able to brew tea from a well-used clay teapot just by pouring hot water into it are hyperbole.
Red Blossom Tea Company Thank you so much for your quick response! It was very informative and cleared up some misconceptions I had about unglazed pots. I appreciate it!
Our pleasure! Please feel free to reach out if you ever have questions ☺️
@@redblossomtea hello i just started into this chinese tea world, i just bought my first yixing teapot, from what i read above, its okay to switch tea in one teapot, before i decide which tea i will use with the teapot?
I just use the teapot once with ripe pu erh..
@momobong4484 yes, the seasoning process takes a very long time, so if you’ve only used the pot once, you can certainly still switch to a different tea.
What is Dragon Oolong tea?
Dragon oolong is not style of oolong tea -- it may simply be the name that another tea company is giving to its oolong tea product. "Oolong" in Chinese translates as "black dragon", so in effect all oolongs are "dragon" oolongs.
