    I have a 856 Defender three inch matte black stainless with no problems so far. I like it ..... a lot. I looked at this one for a few days making sure it had no defects or damage before I bought it. I passed on another one from another dealer that had timing problems.

    I got the Windecator in 3- inch and loved it, mostly! After I took a small rasp to that grip by the trigger guard, it fit me a lot better! I also have several Taurus's in different calibers and like all of them even though they have their quirks. Price and "lite" models make them a win for me!!

    Thanks for your presentation. I have both pistols. Both handle well as snubby pistols. I'm not interested in an ultra lite or hammerless version. I have had no problems with either. The .357 chambering option with the Windicator is handy for occasional shooting but it isn't made for a steady diet of magnum loads. I have a Taurus 627 Tracker .357 Magnum revolver with a 4" barrel for full house magnum loads.
    Taurus makes the model 605 for a snub nose .357 magnum that is roughly the same size as the model 856 and weighs only 2 ounces more.

    i recommend the taurus 85/856/605 lineup. my 85 has been flawless since 1985. the windicator is less common, newer to u.s. market and is too bulky to be a decent ccw. you can find a taurus online for under $300 easily enough. many j frame holsters and grips fit the taurus.

      Looking at both guns I ended up going with the Windicator for several reasons. Taurus had too much reliability issues reviews on line, having the 357 option, weight of Windicator to manages recoil better, I have big hands and liked the full grip capability. And, before buying the windicator, I saw videos of it over 9 years old so it's not a new gun. Problems the gun had at the beginning seems to have been addressed.
      Now the negative: the plus which is also a down is the weight. if you plan to carry it all day, plan for a uncomfortable day, so if you plan on conceal carrying all day, maybe the Taurus would be a better option. I went in understanding this as I don't carry like that and if i need to i have my Ruger lcp max. Another down which is also a plus for me is the heavy double action. I fear light triggers because of accidental snag discharge, so the heavy pull gives me a sense of safety.
      The Windicator as of 2022 summer cost $399 while I'm finding the 856 for around under $300.

    I remember when I first heard of the Ruger LCRx, and how that was supposed to be an affordable revolver.
    Then I heard about the Taurus model you are showing here and I have to wonder how they can make a gun more affordable then Ruger can.

    • @OregonianPlinking
      @OregonianPlinking  2 года назад +4

      I don’t think I’d say the LCRX is in the same ball park price wise. at least in the world of snubnosed revolvers. on a good day it’s still gonna be 500-700 bucks. (Unless you can find a used one) Having the name ruger on it , is probably why the price point is more than it should be. But that being said their LCR/LCRX series are definitely the low end of the Ruger price range for revolvers. Seeing as how their SP101’s are roughly 200 more than their LCR’s. I don’t think you could really go bad either way, with the ruger you can swap out the front sight, and change the grips. Where as with the Taurus, you pretty much get what you get. If I was going to get my “ideal” snubby it would probably be that kimber K6S, but who feels like dropping a grand on a revolver?

    Considering getting this during the next gun show. I heard some problems about cylinder lock up and that screw under the cylinder falling out, has this happened to you or is it completely faultless?

    • @OregonianPlinking
      @OregonianPlinking  2 года назад +1

      The 856 or the Windicator? The 856 I have not had any issues with yet. The Windicator cylinder has locked up on me a couple times, but it’s only been while I was running federal magnums thru it. Every other ammo I’ve run thru it so far Has been fine. I have not had any other issues with it besides that.

      This revolver has a really short cylinder and a tight cylinder gap (the space between the forcing come and cylinder face). I've read complaints of 357 magnum round protruding past the cylinder face and dragging on the forcing cone. Also a possibility, but not as likley, the recoil of 357 in lighter revolvers can cause the bullet to "walk out" of the case a bit. I know the Windicator is a hefty boy, but the tight cylinder gap fit leaves no room for longer than spec ammunition. Or if could be that the bullet was not seated in the case as deep as the other rounds in that box.

    I looked at reviews of the Windicator stating that the cylinder need to be at the correct angle or the edge of the shell hits the frame while ejecting the shells. I thought this was just a random issue. Well, I bought the windicator anyways since I liked the price and the heavy weight to have less recoil for my arthritic hand. I sent my revolver back to Turners and showed them how the edge of the shell hits the frame. Eaa "fixed" the pin that was slowly coming loose by the release lever and said they could not duplicate my concern!! They reverse punched the pin but now is is backing out again together with the pin next to the muzzle. How can EAA not duplicate the problem with the ejection of the shells when the person at Turners duplicated this issue. They brought another "new" Windicator out to test and it also had the same shell ejection problem. Turners did not recommended taking to a gunsmith and grinding out the portion of the firearm. I will send out again to EAA about the two pins coming loose but don't know how they will handle the ejection issue if they can't duplicate it themselves. My primary weapon is a SW 686 4 inch and it runs beautifully. This EAA is intended for a backup . Maybe I should just spend the extra money and get another snubby from Ruger or SW and have no issues.

      I have zero experience with Windicators, but having worked for 15 years as a BMW dealer technician, I can assure you that paying big money for a "premium" brand is no guarantee of having "no issues".

    For those of you who have a Windicator getting loose on you, after how many rounds? Also a shame that this Windi doesn't like Federal, usually a great "go to" standard for testing. Knowing this won't make me return it, however. To each their own, Taurus and EAA seem to be in the same complaint category "Well it ain't a 686 my grandpappy shot in WWII, so it's junk!". Still great value for something you may only put 100 rds thru/yr.

    • @OregonianPlinking

      I’ve ran probably upwards of an additional 750 rounds through both of them since I did this video. And they both keep chugging along. The .357 brass does walk out of the cylinder of the windicator occasionally Still. It causes some cylinder seizing issues. But I just muzzle strike the barrel against something and it frees it up
      Almost instantly. It still doesn’t like federal, but armscor (of all things oddly) doesn’t give it any issues whatsoever along with fiocchi and a bunch of others. Thanks for watching!
