I grew up in Texas, but in a suburb. My dream was to be raised on a ranch. We were poor, dad died and mom couldn’t afford for me to even join the FFA. Couldn’t afford a goat or calf, LOl. I was never fortunate enough to buy or live or work a ranch. Today I just help out my family with cows when they need worked, and do bush hogging during grow season. So, you my friend were very fortunate, and lived a dream. I’m sure it wasn’t all fun and glamorous, but the best things in life are often simple and somewhat difficult at times.

All I helped him do was care for them when they were home. Never road them. They were too expensive and he only wanted trainers on them. I was bucked and horse rolled back on me once. But never owned a horse. He got out of the business and sold everything. Died last year.

Costner's ranch is more modern, but in my opinion the 'Dutton' ranch is nicer. (simply because it's more rustic).
How he can enjoy spending most of his time in Kalifornia is *_WAY BEYOND_* my way of thinking!
If I was going to go from Oregon to Mexico? I would rent a boat of even *_SWIM_* just to avoid that crappy state!

I would take Costner’s ranch in a heart beat !! Now , my message to the announcer , the 4 sixes ranch just barley made the top 10 ranches if Texas . It doesn’t almost take up all of west Texas . And for the last damn time , it’s not in west Texas , it’s in Guthrie which is between Lubbock, Amarillo and Wichita Falls . It’s called the panhandle!!!! It’s advertised as 292,000 acres , the King ranch is 825,000 in south Texas ! There’s no way a 500,000 acre ranch like the Yellowstone could survive with 10 ranch hands and raising only 500 head of cattle . The 4 sixes run 7,500 to 10,000 head at a time plus some million$ stud horses , which makes most of their money . Oh , forgot it’s only tv ! Sorry !

During one episode; one of the villains made an offer of $500 million and one actor said that came to $4000 per acre. So yes; they said exactly how much land it was. 125,000 acres. BTW: that’s not even close to being the biggest ranch in the USA 🇺🇸 .
King Ranch (in Texas) is currently about 825,000 acres (once it was over 1.25 million acres) consisting of four tracts. It is stated that as of Feb 2022; as being the biggest single ranch in the USA. At one time the King family owned ranches in several other countries as well; amounting to several million acres.
Ted Turner who created CNN: owns over 2.2 million acres of land across the United states (not one ranch but MANY ranches). He was the largest private land owner in the USA 🇺🇸 until being surpassed in 2007 by another billionaire. Again a bunch of ranches all over the country.

Costner’s ‘Dunbar Ranch’….wonder if that was the original name or he renamed it, since his character’s last name in Dances with Wolves was name Sargent Dunbar. Many West Texan ranchers don’t compare their ranch size by acres, they use square miles for the size.
